What would you rather do?

Summary:

Take a break with a simple question.

Notes:

Day Thirty-One: “Would you rather…?”

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“So, would you rather have to fight both the Mist and Earth Dragon or fight a hundred of those egg, robot, things.” Lamorak was trying to break the ice in the garage but only got looks from Team Sonic, the Round Table, and Babylon Rogues. “Come on, someone has to answer that isn’t Galahad.”

Things haven’t been going well since coming to this strange world and being reunited with King Sonic. Though Lancelot has been adamant that they don’t tell their King the full truth about what’s going on, wanting to tell Sonic himself. Lamorak found it silly but willing to listen to Lancelot for just this once.

Eggman had sent the Knights to Future City after discovering that they had become friends with Team Sonic; wanting them to get something called a Chaos Emerald. For some reason, the older knights are willing to listen to the madman’s orders but Lamorak and Galahad aren’t buying it for a second.

“Do we have anything?” Jet questions, causing everyone to look at him instead. “What? I want to know if we have anything to fight things with, it would make answering so much better.”

Lamorak nudged Galahad since it was his friend’s question but found that Galahad had been drifting to Lancelot’s side. His friend hasn’t been sleeping right since the whole kidnapping and then forced to work for Eggman thing which he doesn’t blame him for. Galahad wants the comfort of his father more than Lamorak these days, again Lamorak can respect that.

Lancelot gives a subtle nod; answering for Galahad.

“Yeah, you have your original weapon.”

Jet frowned and went back to think; getting questions thrown at him from Wave and Storm. Though it’s all in good fun which Lamorak had quickly figured out after observing the group for a little bit.

Lamorak is a little jealous of the trio but also he would never replace Galahad as his best friend. The two had known one another for a long time now, starting their proper training as knights around the same time. And of course with the whole Fake King thing that had happened.

“I’ll pick the safe option: fighting the badniks.” Jet looks back over at Lamorak. “I know I can beat them not so sure about the dragons.”

The knights went about mumbling ‘good answer’ and ‘I would pick that’ just to mess with everyone. Being able to joke around hasn’t been a thing for a while now so this is nice. Though of course, they have to focus back on the task at hand because Lancelot made an excuse for him and Galahad to leave the group.

Lamorak just hopes that Lancelot knows what he is doing.

“Dad?” Galahad grabs Lancelot by the arm and stops his dad. “Is this even the smartest thing? Following Eggman’s orders when King Sonic is right there doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.”

His father has this conflicted look on his face which disappears as fast as it appears.

Galahad hates being out of the loop, especially these days when his Dad just brushes off his concerns and tells him that everything will work out. Of course, he believes Lancelot that things will be fine but Galahad has a limit and it’s slowly being reached with each dismissed that’s thrown his way. It’s unfair.

“There’s nothing–”

“For me to worry about?” Galahad finish. “I know because you’ve been telling me since the beginning but, Dad, I don’t trust Eggman and I don’t know why you are listening to him.”

“I’ll tell you later,” his dad settles on before continuing to walk away.

Galahad scowls – feeling his magic lashing out – before schooling himself and following after the knight; knowing that there’s nothing that he can do to convince his father to actually listen to reason.

Notes:

With this one-shot, I've completed Daddecember! Anyway, just a silly little one-shot that kinda connects back to the Cryptic King somehow.

Hopefully, you enjoyed and have a wonderful day/night!
