Work Text:
Kamiki Hikaru was not happy. Not at all. Not even a little bit. He glared at his classmates from university who were seating two rows behind his date, grinning and make a lot of suggestive movements at him because he's on a fucking blind date.
That they fucking organised and tricked him into going because he thought they were going to study since you know. Exams are knocking on their door in a couple of days. He glowered at them, glaring daggers at them and plotting their demise because Hikaru will make them regret this very, very much.
Fuck them. He should just be a fucking loner in his classes after all.
If his childhood friends — who didn't took a single class with him — say anything to him about being a loner and hate socialising with others, he'll maim all three of them with a fucking spoon. Consequences be damn.
He took another deep breathe because he can't commit murder in fucking daylight.
The temptation is strong though.
Extremely strong.
He slapped his signature “I'm absolutely listening to you and not at all ignoring you” smile on his face as he nodded at his date's rambling — that he wasn't interested in. Even Ai from B-Komachi, his ex-girlfriend, was far more entertaining than this — about something she's passionate about……
Probably.
It's not like Hikaru was paying any sort of attention to it.
He really, really, really wanted to study for his exams and finish those assignments that he had been collecting and procrastinating over. And it totally wasn't because those assignments were worth half of his grade… totally… believe him it's not— it actually worth half of his fucking grade and that's why he need to finish them asap.
Fuck his life. He hates his major. Why did he even take it to begin with? He loves chemistry but there's certainly a better option than this right?
He also doesn't like that he was literally running on two hours of sleep.
Hikaru morbidly wondered if he should have locked the door to his apartment when he tried to commit suicide on two (three actually) separate occasions in his apartment. There's that one attempt where he decided to overdose on sleeping pills and there's another attempt where he decided to slit his wrist open and bleed out.
(He pretends that he didn't have an attempt where he tried doing both of them at the same time: overdosing on sleeping pills, and then slitting his wrist — the same wrist he slit on his previous attempt — before waiting for the consequence to kick in because he wonder which one of the two actions he took would kill him first.)
The only reason he survived was because his biological father came over to check on him. He was both glad and hated that man for saving him but Hikaru guessed that it was rather unfortunate that the only son he had contact with, decided to end his life instead.
On three separate occasions at that. All three attempts were not far away from one another.
Hikaru blinked into reality of his current unwanted and absolutely unwarranted predicament that his classmates threw him in when his phone rang. He took his phone out and raised a questioning eyebrow when he saw who was calling him.
It was an unknown number.
Hikaru glanced up and saw his date glares at his phone, then forced a smile on her face, “Who is calling you?” she asked politely but Hikaru could still hear the irritation in her voice despite her attempts in trying to stop it from showing itself in her voice.
Internally, Hikaru scowled heavily at her, while externally, he simply smiled charmingly at her and decided that, to hell he goes. He's going to lie to her and say it was his girlfriend that's calling him because he wanted to get out of this anyway and while he's very well aware that this could backfire on him very badly, he rather pulled this stupid stunt to get out of this stupid situation he was in. “It's my girlfriend,” Hikaru said cheerfully and viciously, enjoying the way all of his classmates either gasped and/or had their chopsticks dropped onto the table/plates, depending on which one they landed.
His date widened her eyes at him, “W-what?” she stammered as Hikaru's smile widened.
“Uh huh,” he nodded, then he picked up the phone because it's been ringing quite a bit now, “Hello?” Hikaru answered, taking a sip of his water and nearly spitting it out when he heard the voice from the other end.
“Hikaru-kun! Took you long enough!”
What. The. Fuck.
HE WAS JOKING WHEN HE SAID THAT!!!! Granted it's his EX GIRLFRIEND. BUT STILL!!!! Hikaru screeched internally as he registered that he was, in fact, in a call with his ex-girlfriend. “Hi?????” Hikaru managed to spit out after coughing harshly since he inhaled his water instead of spitting it out which was the worst thing he could ever do to himself. He should spit it out instead of inhaling it since inhaling water was way worse than spitting it out.
In his opinion anyway because inhaling water sucks.
“Are you okay?” His ex-girlfriend, Ai, the centre and ace of B-Komachi, and currently the most popular idol in Japan, asked in concern after hearing Hikaru dying over the phone.
“I'm alright. Just finish inhaling water down my lungs, nothing new,” Hikaru said, his voice hoarse after his coughing fit and honestly. She, of all people, shouldn't be surprised by this whole thing considering she had seen him do stupider things than inhaling water down his lungs and suffer the consequence of his stupidity before. Him inhaling water was probably the most reasonable, sane and normal thing Ai would get out of from him.
“.........” Hikaru doesn't need to see to know that she was currently judging him. “I'm going to ignore you.” Ai deadpanned.
“Then hang up,” Hikaru scowled, “It's not like we're in the same room as each other,” he grumbled, aggressively picking a carrot in between his chopsticks and putting it in his mouth.
“Actually before I do that, I have something to tell you,” Ai said, making Hikaru raise an eyebrow at her words.
“Oh yeah?” Hikaru replied, “What is it?” Hikaru asked curiously.
“I want the kids to meet you.”
Hikaru nearly dropped both the food in between his chopsticks and the chopsticks themselves when Ai said that. “Why?” Hikaru said, “Why exactly do you want them to meet me?” he asked her. He glanced at his date who was currently aggressively eating her food, turning around every time she finished putting food inside her mouth to start glaring at his classmates who all shrunk underneath her gaze. “Is this your way of asking me for “us” again?” Hikaru asked in a quieter voice as he wasn't alone at the moment.
“No. Not at all,” Ai denied immediately, “It's just that I want the kids to meet you. I'm not asking for “us” again……” Ai trailed off and Hikaru didn't understand why, but he felt oddly disappointed and dejected by her words for some reason. However, he was a master at ignoring his feelings so he did exactly that. He ignored those feelings because he doesn't understand why he's feeling that way.
“I see,” Hikaru said in a rather foreign tone, something he, himself, didn't understand why that was the tone he used or what it was.
“The kids are very intelligent. They would understand our situation,” Ai added.
Hikaru exhaled harshly and simply shoving another piece of vegetable in his mouth, letting out a hum because that weird feeling won't leave him alone. “Is that so?” He replied after he finished chewing. “I'll come over to your place when I have time,” he added a beat after.
“……” the short silence on Ai's end tells him that he wasn't the only one that noticed that his reaction was rather odd than usual. “Alright. Here's my current address,” Ai said, then suddenly there's a pause on her end.
“Hey,” Hikaru called out, finding the silence a bit disturbing because did she get recognised? Hikaru could faintly make out the sounds of traffic and the bystanders chatter from the background in her end of the line, letting him know that Ai was in public somewhere. Perhaps using the public phone to call him.
“Oh. It's nothing. Anyway, my current address is,” Ai gave him her current address which he saved in his memory and then he ended the call after exchanging their farewells. He stared at his date who looked absolutely annoyed.
Hikaru smiled, “Well, I have to go now,” he said cheerfully, paying for both of their meals because he's nice enough to do so. However, if he managed to turn the experience sour for her at the end of this stupid blind date that his stupid classmates trick him into going, then that's a good thing in his book because served her and those bastards right. Hikaru operate on pure fucking spite when he's miserable.
Because if he's miserable, he's going to make it everyone's problem since he's that petty and determined to make people suffer and miserable with him.
There's a reason why he only has three friends and why those three friends would pretty much fight him whenever he decides that they too, should suffer with him since he's miserable.
They were also the same three friends that set him and Ai up and oddly enough, it worked out until they both decided that it's best for them to end it since it would end badly on Ai's part should they keep their relationship and the public and her agency found out about them.
And regardless of everything they have said to each other in the past, Hikaru found himself walking over to Ai's apartment one day, carrying a bouquet of flowers in his arms and some gifts in his backpack that also has his books and laptop in it because he might as well study and finish all of his assignments before it's due there.
He also, knew better than to go to Ai's place without hiding his appearance so right now, he's wearing long sleeved high neck shirt, baggy pants and sneakers, all in black because yes and also because he just don't care about it, a pair of sunglasses and a face mask to hide his face, and a cap to hide his hair colour from view and that's by tucking all of it inside when he wore it.
He wasn't sure what to expect but he definitely wasn't expecting someone else to be in front of Ai's door, ringing the doorbell. He could just turn around and leave, however, something about this whole thing feels wrong. He simply walked over to the person as quietly as he could and simply stood a couple of steps away from them since they clearly didn't notice Hikaru standing right there.
Ai — this fucking airhead. Hikaru groaned to himself — opens the door and Hikaru saw the door chain lock was not doing its job because a certain someone — Ai, you fucking idiot. I'm about to kill you with my bare fucking hands myself. Hikaru swore in his mind — didn't use it and was currently swinging the door wide open.
Both Hikaru and Ai widened their eyes at the person's words because how the fuck this person know about the twins?
Hikaru blinked when he saw something metallic glint in between the roses. That's a knife. Hikaru thought to himself in bewilderment.
Then.
He sees it before it even happens.
Hikaru dropped the bouquet of flowers in his arms and caught the knife using his hand, hissing in pain when it stabbed his palm. He does, however, give the bastard a good kick in the face and throws him to the side, kissing the ground. “Fucking bastard. Don't play with a knife,” he scowled at the stalker behind his face mask. He let Ai pull him into her house and slammed the door shut, locking it in place, clearly recognising Hikaru from his voice alone since why else would she do that besides knowing who it was that saved her from her perhaps demise.
“Call the police, why won't you?” Hikaru deadpanned as he turned around and used the door chain lock, adding another layer of security. He turned to Ai, raising an eyebrow at Ai who blinked before she rushed to where he assumed was the living room to do what he told her to do as the stalker practically slammed his fists on the door in an act of knocking. Hikaru lifted his hand and stared at his bleeding hand, extremely exasperated because great. He has a new injury to deal with.
Just what he needs! He was looking for another injury or two to deal with!!!
He was not.
He glanced over at Ai when she rushed back to where he was, carrying a first aid kit in her hands and trailing behind her were their two children who stared at him in shock. “What are you doing?” Hikaru asked in exasperation, sitting on the floor after Ai practically manhandled him into doing so.
Ai was clearly trying to bandage his bleeding palm but didn't know where exactly to start, “I'm— I'm trying to—” Hikaru let out a sigh when he saw that Ai was clearly frustrated with this and her lack of knowledge on how to deal with this.
