Work Text:

Hal leans back in his chair, propping his feet up on the meeting table. He has his arms folded behind his head and his eyes closed. There is a slight hiss as the meeting room door opens.

“Hal?” Diana asks. Hal opens one eye and peaks at Diana. She sets down a stack of papers. “What are you doing here so early? The meeting isn’t for another 10 minutes.” Diana laughs, pulling her chair out from the table. “It’s great, but also, you’ve never been the first one here. Actually, you’re often almost late.”

Hal shrugs, dropping his feet from the table. “I wanna see that Nightwing kid. I haven’t seen much of him, but every time that I see him he’s always around KF. And Wally’s family to me. I need to vet this Nightwing.”

“Wouldn’t that be Barry’s job?”

“Humph,” Hal crosses his arms, “Barry sees the good in everyone.” Diana opens her mouth to cut Hal off, but Hal holds up his hand, “I know that Nightwing’s good. He is a member of the Justice League, but just because he’s a good person and a hero doesn’t mean he is worthy to date Wally. Wally’s a good kid. He deserves the best.”\

Diana smiles softly at Hal. “Carry on then.”

Hal grins and props his legs back up on the table and leans his head back. He keeps his eyes closed, peaking every time he hears the door. Slowly the other Justice League members slip in: Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, Batman, Superman, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, Green Arrow, Flash, Kid Flash, Black Canary. But no Nightwing.

Glancing at the clock on the wall, Hal presses his lips together. There’s only two minutes until the meeting starts and almost everyone that is supposed to be at this meeting is already here. Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman are all talking in hushed voices at the front of the room. Probably trying to figure out how to make the meeting the most like torture. Hal rolls his eyes, before he looks to see where everyone sat down.

Sitting to Hal’s left is Flash, then KF, then an empty chair, then Cyborg. Hal stares at the empty chair with scrutiny before he turns to his other side where Martian Manhunter is sitting, then Black Canary, then Green Arrow.

Hal huffs and looks back at the clock, watching the time keep ticking. Finally, Hal hears the tell tale hiss of the door. Quickly, Hal turns to watch as Nightwing practically struts into the room. Nightwing’s grin widens as he takes notice of the empty chair next to Wally. Hal rolls his eyes at how obvious the kid is. Hal’s eyes track Nightwing as he starts to walk around the table. He watches as Nightwing seems to hesitate slightly as he steps past Batman and again when he gets behind Green Arrow.

Nightwings grin turns mischievous as he completely stops behind Green Arrow. Hal seems to be the only one watching this interaction though. That is until Nightwing practically throws himself on the back of Green Arrow’s chair and wraps his arms around Arrow’s neck.

“Argh,” Arrow lurches forward to stop them both from toppling backwards. One hand reaches forward to anchor on the table, but the other seems to instinctively grab Nightwing’s arm. As the balance, Arrow takes a deep breath, closing his eyes. “Wing, what are you doing?”

Nightwing laughs, “Hey, I realized it’s been soooo long since I gave you a hug.”

Rolling his eyes, Arrow argues, “I literally hugged you yesterday.”

Nightwing clicks his tongue, “Like I said, too long. Besides I wanted to know if we were still on for dinner tonight?”

Green Arrow shakes his head and sighs, “Yes, we are still on for dinner tonight. We planned this night forever ago now. We also have dinner together all the time. We had breakfast together this morning.”

Hal’s eyebrows scrunch up.

“I know, but it’s been so long since it was just you and me without all of the kids.” Nightwing whines, dropping his feet back on the ground. He loosens his grip around Arrow, but still keeps his arms dangling over him.

“I know, but tonight will just be the two of us, like good ole times,” Arrow chuckles, patting Nightwing’s arm.

And holy shit. Nightwing and Arrow know each other. Outside of the capes. No one knows Arrow’s identity. Well, no one except Canary. And maybe the Bat. But still, Nightwing knows Arrow. And apparently really well.

Hal blinks repeatedly, his brain trying to reboot, because did they also say kids. Are they married? Hal thought that Arrow was seeing Oliver Queen.

Nightwing pushes himself off of Arrow, but not before he dramatically places a kiss on top of the other man’s hair.

“That’s enough,” Batman’s gruff voice cuts in. “This meeting is starting in 10 seconds. And you need to be in your own chair, Nightwing or else you’re doing extra training.”

Nightwing just laughs and salutes Batman with an. “Aye, Aye.”

Then, instead of walking quickly the rest of the way around the table, Nightwing launches himself up on the table and does a round off across the table. Nightwing dismounts next to his chair and casually sits down. Hal’s eyes follow him, his mouth gaping. Then he looks at Wally, who must be devastated. But poor, poor Wally is still just looking at Nightwing like he hung the stars in the sky.

Wally laughs, reaching his hand out, grabbing onto Nightwings arm. Wally leans over to whisper something to the other man, who laughs in response.

“I am calling this meeting to order.” Batman announces, forcing Hal to pull his eyes away from the scene taking place. As Hal turns, he notices everyone else also seems to be having a hard time looking away from Nightwing. Everyone else with their own looks of confusion on their faces.

Hal glances at Green Arrow, who doesn’t seem to notice at all that half the League is shooting him looks as if he didn’t just drop a massive bomb on them.

This meeting can not be over fast enough.
