"Oh Force, today was hell," Obi-Wan groaned as he entered his home, letting his companion close up behind them.
The said companion being Depa, she had no choice but to wind him up! It was in their unwritten relationship contract.
"It could be worse."
"Worse? What could be worse?"
"Come on, Obi-Wan, you know what I mean. He could have created a disaster of which only he has the secret."
Could Depa ever stop making fun of her lover's brother?
Um... No, probably not.
"I left him only ten minutes ago, just before our meeting with the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor," he remarked, pulling off his boots and wiggling his toes to relax his feet.
Depa smiled at her lover, amused.
"Ten minutes without direct supervision, a lifetime for your hyperactive Padawan."
They exchanged knowing smiles and put down their capes, moving with a harmony born of habit to make a cup of tea and put out some food to make up for the meal they had just skipped.
Depa checked her com to make sure her Padawan did not need anything or have any problems before putting it away and following Obi-Wan.
"Boots."
The woman looked down and chuckled as she removed her shoes and left them on her way.
"Yes, Mr. Fastidious."
"You’re one to speak, I remember that time you criticized the clothes in my closet."
"The storage was not optimal," Depa replied with a shrug, fully accepting her opinion.
The secret of relaxation was that: always assume.
She smiled superiorly at the mumbling Jedi and stretched, enjoying the appreciative and admiring look the man gave her whenever she stepped out of her cloak. It was always nice, even if she was not really responsible for her appearance, she was just a mixture of her biological parents' genes.
Obi-Wan handed her a cup and they instinctively leaned against each other, enjoying the warmth of their cups along with the heat of their bodies.
"Damn, I've been waiting for this all day."
"What, drinking tea?"
"Being with you."
Obi-Wan blushed heavily but did not look away and leaned in to kiss her tenderly. Depa put her cup down blindly to take his face in her hand and return a deeper kiss to her lover.
"I've missed you."
They had grown very close over the past few years, Obi-Wan seeking help and guidance in perfecting his Soresu until he finally approached her. Depa was known for her formidable combat skills, but also for her strict public demeanour and her unsociability. He had been shy, hesitant, but in the end... he was resilient. Tenacious. Stubborn and determined, he had the makings of a great Soresu master.
Depa just loved his gentleness, the silent affection and delicacy of his analysis. He was not necessarily a man of many words in his private life for he was thoughtful and careful with not letting his words being used against him, like she was, but those words were important. The first time he had said "I love you" to her, Depa had not been able to believe it. She was not that old compared to him, taking the Jedi life expectancy, but there was nothing in his attitude that would have made her believe he was attracted to her. Depa had just never seen him that way, until he revealed his attraction head-on before disappearing from her life.
Except she saw him everywhere, even when he was not there. She would turn to make a witty remark before being disappointed when he was not there. A smell would remind her of the scent of his discreet but heady perfume. Finding a tea bag in her cupboard was the final blow, making her realise how important Obi-Wan was to her, even if it still took her a little while to realise that this strange feeling was... reciprocate interest and attraction.
She wanted to kiss him.
This time Depa had been the one who avoided their meetings until they met again at a monthly meeting of the hardcore Soresu practitioners. It had ended in passionate kisses in the showers, yet neither of them cared about getting wet.
It had already been four years, almost five, even if the war was not helping them to be together.
She finally stepped back and finished her lukewarm drink with a grimace and pulled off her tabards before settling back on the back of the couch, one arm around her companion's shoulders as he looked down at his cooled cup with a betrayal look that got a tired smile out of her.
Obi-Wan's couch was great, firm with a soft cushion, and a soft texture, the perfect couch, many of Obi-Wan's friends were jealous of it. Depa herself had considered sneaking in to steal it, her father would probably help her, he often fell asleep on his daughter's sofa, so an even nicer sofa might interest him.
It was only out of respect for this wonderful couch that Depa had never slept with Obi-Wan on it, she always moved things around the room, she did not want to think about sex on a couch.
However, she definitely wanted to tempt Obi-Wan into something more, so she grabbed her lover by the collar and laid him down before settling on top of him, always happy to surprise him, she still had the soul of a child for pranks.
"Such authority," the Jedi muttered underneath her, looking offended.
Depa laughed softly, Obi-Wan was often amused by her domineering tendencies, the young woman just liked to be on top of her mate, that was all, she had both control of the pace and a position that allowed her to see her man's entire body at a glance.
But more than anything, Depa loved it when Obi-Wan acted with a confidence that always made him seem bigger than he actually was, as when he drew her into a kiss that was much more suggestive than the last one.
He was in the mood too, which was perfect.
Depa kissed him with everything she had, she did not want to hold back, all her love, lack and desire, she offered it with her lips and tongue, communicating her feelings through her gestures.
When he realised that the Chalactan had removed his belt, pulled his tunics aside and was caressing his bare chest, Obi-Wan instinctively moved to cover himself before pulling her closer to him, covering his body with her.
Depa loved the way the Jedi's pale skin flushed, her own skin was too tanned for it to really show, but on Obi-Wan it was obvious.
And she loved licking his chest, he was so sensitive and responsive, his sex twitched between his legs, Depa could feel it harden and rise against her own.
It was going to be a great evening, so when the door opened, Depa did not immediately understand the logical next step until it was too late. It should have been obvious, but Obi-Wan's thumbs rolling over her nipples and his mouth on her neck had made her lose some of her rationality.
And she had no regrets.
"AHHHH!"
Depa closed her eyes, having immediately guessed that it was Obi-Wan's Padawan who had just entered and surprised them.
She checked the situation and their positions and mentally shrugged. It could be worse. On a more serious note, Obi-Wan was 'only' shirtless and she herself was still fully clothed, though her tunics were undone and Obi-Wan's hands were clearly on her breasts.
"What... What are you... What are you doing!" the Jedi Knight finally exclaimed as he found his words.
"Anakin..."
"Isn't it obvious?" Depa asked, rolling her eyes as it became obvious that Obi-Wan was not going to find anything to say in the next few seconds.
"But... but you... you..."
"Yes? Speak, what is it?"
"You... what are you doing?!"
...alright.
"We're enjoying our time together after a long overdue reunion to comfort each other," Depa explained patiently. "And we were planning to have sex, finally, before your interruption."
"But Jedi should not have attachments!"
Obi-Wan groaned and put his right hand to his face, so Depa realised it was up to her to deal with it.
The Force helps her, young people were so hard to deal with. Thankfully Caleb was not a rebellious teenager yet.
"Skywalker, don't be stupid. A Jedi must have no greater attachment than his duty to the Force and the Republic. If I have to let Obi-Wan die for the Republic, I will, just as I hope he will let me join the Force rather than save me instead of saving other lives. Love should never be excessive, I love Obi-Wan and he loves me, but our love does not make us weak or dependent, what more is there to say?"
"Wait... does that mean I could have a relationship too?"
Depa restrained herself from telling him that the entire High Council already knew he was in a secret relationship with Senator Amidala, but only for Obi-Wan's sake.
"If you are mature in your relationship and sincere in your commitments as a Jedi, the Order will support you to the best of its ability, we are not in the business of hurting our members as long as you are not Falling. Now, did you have something important to discuss with Obi-Wan?"
The blond boy seemed to be speechless in his turn. Was it a Lineage thing?
"Perhaps there is a better place for you to be?"
For example, with a certain woman from Naboo?
The blond man blushed and walked away quickly.
"Uh... yes! Obi-Wan, I'll come back later- no, I'll call you!"
"Okay, Anakin, thanks."
"Bye, Skywalker."
"Goodbye, Master Billaba!"
"You were right, Obi-Wan," Depa finally admitted as the door closed again.
"Right about what? I'm often right."
"Today was hell."
The Jedi would not be the one to contradict her.
"Anakin is going to be horrible to deal with."
"Please, don't add anything. All you had to do was talk instead of letting me handling things."
"I was a little too busy being mortified!"
"Just be glad I didn't explicitly tell him to go comfort himself in Amidala's arms."
"Oh Force... I can't imagine that."
"Neither can I," Depa admitted before she let slip an enormous yawn, Skywalker totally ruined the mood. "Well, I guess we'll have to behave well tonight, my love."
Finally they fell asleep on the couch, it was just so soft and pleasant...
The next few months were much more pleasant for everyone, it seemed like when Skywalker was no longer trying to be 'discreet' in talking to his partner, he was much more relaxed. In fact, it would seem that the young man's interruption had paradoxically brought Obi-Wan closer to his Padawan and brother, so Depa had nothing to say.
Almost a year later, when her father faced their enemy, there would be no one to stop him from killing the Sith, because Anakin was with his wife in the Temple’s Healing Halls, reassured with her that all was well with the babies for the imminent childbirth.
Depa and Obi-Wan would never know how one moment could change everything.
