Work Text:
Alastor, better known as THE RADIO DEMON, wasn’t one for.. friends.
Sure, he had Mimsy when he was alive. And he considered Husker a friend, no matter how much the chimera wanted to deny it. And even Nifty!
But other than them, he’s not one for friends.
So imagine his surprise when he finds himself becoming rather fond of the residents of the hotel. Even Angel Dust, as…. unbecoming as he is.
“What do you think, Al?” Charlie asks, rousing him from his thoughts.
That’s another thing, He thinks, turning to look at her. Nicknames. That’s never been a me thing. What an odd experience.
"Sorry dear, I wasn't quite listening,” Alastor admits, his smile widening. "Could you repeat that?"
"Use those lil deer ears, Smiles,” Angel comments from the couch.
"Thank you, Angel, for the input." Alastor sneers, eyes narrowing as one of Angel's hands appears to give a thumbs up before disappearing behind the couch again.
"It's okay, Al. I was just wondering if you thought it would be a good idea to host a fundraiser! Or a banquet or something." Charlie tapers off, looking at the ceiling in thought. “Although maybe that’s too expensive…”
“Nonsense Charlie!” Alastor boasts. “You have more than enough to host a little soiree!”
Alastor swears that every time Charlie smiles, it’s somehow bigger and brighter than the last.
Alastor had been right, of course, the ‘soiree’ wasn’t expensive at all. In fact, it barely cost anything. The only expenses were for some of the residents’ outfits, some decorations, and some food.
And the outfits themselves weren't expensive at all, mostly because a lot of the residents already had outfits. Angel seems to have an unlimited closet (that apparently isn't just small amounts of fabric), Husk wasn't going to change his usual outfit no matter what, and Alastor wasn't even expected to.
I mean, who's going to go against the Radio Demon?
Alastor stands in the corner of the room, half hidden in shadow, observing the crowd. There's a surprising amount of sinners that showed, and Charlie is practically vibrating with excitement.
"ALASTOR!" She squeals, making her way over to him. "THIS IS AWESOME!"
He inclines his head towards her. "I'm delighted that you're enjoying yourself!" He says, his smile softening. "Quite the turnout!"
"I know right!" She looks around and spots Vaggie. "Oh I have to go steal a dance! Thank you so much for this Al!"
Alastor doesn't get the chance to respond before Charlie had disappeared into the crowd. However he wasn't alone for long.
"Heya Smiles." Alastor turns to see Angel looking..... good. He's wearing a long light pink dress that is very 1920's esque. Almost a perfect replica of the flapper dresses Alastor saw a lot when he was alive.
"Hello, Angel. You look divine." Alastor compliments.
"Well, aren't you a charmer?" Angel smiles widely.
There's a few minutes of silence where Alastor continues watching the various sinners socializing and Angel chews on his lip, obviously wanting to say something.
"Say, Smiles, how do you feel about dancin'?" He asks finally, staring intently at the floor.
"Well, I find dancing quite delightful. Waltzing, tango, really any kind of dance, I've got to say I am a fan." Alastor says, his staff disappearing with a clap of his hands.
"I'd pay ta see ya break dance." Angel snorts and manages to get a small laugh out of Alastor.
"While I can't say that I'll ever do that, I would like to ask you to dance." Alastor holds out his hand. Angel just looks at it like it's a live snake.
"What?" He says, shaking his head slightly. "I must be drunk, I thought I jus' heard ya ask me to dance."
Alastor chuckles. "I did ask you to dance."
"But the five foot rule..?" Angel points out apprehensively.
Alastor's eye twitches. "Which only serves to show how rare of an opportunity this is." He says, his voice laced with a bit more static than usual. He takes a deep breath, his hand still out. "But, if you don't wish do then I will respect that of course."
"Are ya kiddin'?! I ain't passin' up this opportunity." Angel finally puts his hand in Alastor's and is led to the middle of the dance floor.
"Now the real question is, do you know how to dance?" Alastor asks, putting a hand right above Angel's second set of arms. They don't have that big of a height difference but it's enough that Alastor has to take a second to find a good hand placement.
"Depends on which kinda dancin' your talkin' about baby." Angel teases, flinching when a squeal of static pierces through the air. "Sorry."
Alastor starts to direct Angel in a simple four step dance. "Nonsense, just... took me by surprise is all."
"To answer ya though, I can dance. The way that you're talkin' about." Angel has his lower hands on Alastor's hips and the upper two draped around his neck. "Val made me learn it."
"Hm. Guess he's good for something after all." Alastor hums, separating from Angel to spin him around before pulling him back into their original position.
"Oh!" Angel gasps. "You weren't lying Smiles, you're really good."
"Oh darling, you haven't seen anything yet." Alastor's smile turns playful and Angel has barely half a second before Alastor is completely changing the pace.
He starts to be what looks like a heavily choreographed dance, a combination of spins, dips and even a little bit of tap dancing.
By the time the dance is done, Angel is panting and smiling widely. "Holy shit." He gasps, trying to catch his breath. He looks up at Alastor, shocked. "HOW DO YOU LOOK EXACTLY THE SAME?!"
"Well my dear, I've had a lot of practice." He laughs too.
"That was fun, Smiles. Thanks." Angel says.
"Anytime, darling." Alastor bows and disappears into the shadows.
Maybe the whole friend's thing isn't so bad. Alastor thinks, sitting down at his desk. For once he actually feels like smiling.
