Work Text:
Moxxie always loved the theatre. He never considered himself an actor or an aspiring thespian, but watching a musical come to life in a theater brought him so much joy. This is why when Millie surprised him with a genuine taping of Phantom of the Opera, he was ecstatic. Hell doesn’t have many theatres and the few that do exist are overshadowed by Mammon’s shows and performances at his tents. Millie knew Moxxie. She knew that he would enjoy a night on the couch with her, cuddled up, watching a musical.
Of course, he had seen Phantom of the Opera dozens of times. He enjoyed the original very much. Something about Michael Crawford just spoke to him, which Millie loved to tease him about. Tonight was different, however. Millie had gotten her hands on a TAPING. A recording of a live performance from the living world.
The room smelled like popcorn as Millie started to get snacks ready in the kitchen. Moxie still had the DVD in his hands, awestruck. “How did you even get this?” He managed to say.
Millie turned to him and smiled, “That mission we had a week ago that was in that shopping building had it. While you and B were talkin’ to each other about the body I was messin’ around and saw a bunch of DVDs!” She giggled, clearly proud of herself for the discovery. She shoved a bowl of popcorn and drinks to Moxxie.
“Huh…” Moxxie acknowledged as he put the DVD down on the TV counter to grab the snacks from Millie. He then sat down and Millie sat next to him, cuddling up and draping a blanket over them both.
“I know how much you love that damn musical… I also figured you needed a little break. Boss has been a lil hard on ya lately I noticed.” Millie expressed as she grabbed the remote. Moxxie nodded slowly, smiling at his significant other. He was happy when she noticed that he was struggling. Blitzø has always been a struggle to deal with but lately, it has been catching up to him.
Moxxie was in awe. He had never experienced something so magnificent as what that recording had to offer. The singing voices, the metaphors, the emotions… it was all perfect. Nothing was better than experiencing his favorite musical with his beloved, even if she was half paying attention it was okay because she was trying.
By the end of it Moxxie was giggling and kicking his feet, cheering for the cast as the credits rolled. Millie beside him was cheering with him, happy that he was happy. Suddenly she was brought up off the couch by her hands. Moxxie was spinning her around, humming. She giggled.
“Oh Moxxie! How elegant!” She teased as she joined in, dancing. She grabbed the blanket they were laying with and span it around herself like a dress.
Moxxie retrieved an empty plate from the counter and covered half his face with it. “I must show you my true feelings! Whatever the cost!” He said dramatically, his voice deepened, sort of sounding like his father. They continued to dance around the living room as Moxxie hummed lyrics to the main song.
The next morning, the pair started walking to work, feeling refreshed after a lovely night together. Moxxie was still humming music slightly. Now with the musical fresh in his mind, he felt like a new person. Millie enjoyed every second of it, she adored seeing her husband happy.
Holding hands, the two made it to the main door of the IMP office. Moxxie whimpered as he braced himself for another grueling day of work. Millie sympathized with him, rubbing his back as she thought to herself. “Oh! I’m gonna grab myself a drink at the vending machine before we head in. Want me to grab you anything, Mox?”
Moxxie shook his head, “Nah I’m fine, Millie. I’ll head in though.”
Millie eyed him suspiciously, “Alright… Save my seat darling!” She said the last part as she started speed walking down to the lobby area.
Moxxie smiled, thinking about how there really was no need to ‘save her seat’ as there really would be no one who would take it. He opened the door and noticed immediately that Loona wasn’t at her desk. Humming to himself he looked around for his Boss. Not finding him in the general vicinity, he peaked at his slightly open office door.
Blitzø was sitting there, a hand on his chin absent-mindedly as he flipped through his phone. He had a frown on his face and knit eyebrows. Moxxie stared at him, thoughtfully. For the first time in a while, he was really looking at him. All alone, Blitzø didn’t seem so obnoxious, just kinda sad and a little mysterious. A loner in a way. Moxxie took in his appearance as well. Noticing the bags under his eyes and slightly unkempt clothes.
The lighting in the room made Hellsky shine at only one part of his face. Which was his scarred part. They all knew about his very obvious scars, they never really questioned them as Blitzø himself never talked about it either. Millie had scars on her limbs and tail and would talk occasionally about the tales of how she got them. Mostly involving her siblings. However, Blitzø wasn’t that way. He wasn’t exactly an enigma when it came to his past, but it still was a mystery of why he had those scars. It couldn’t have been from one of their missions because he has had them ever since Moxxie had met him in prison.
Now that he was really looking at his scars, a thought came to his head. Which he hummed to himself about. Tilting his head as he kept looking at his boss.
At that exact moment, the door to the office flew open as Millie and Loona both came in. Millie holding a pair of drinks and Loona picking at her teeth, looking like she just woke up.
Blitzø looked up, noticing Moxxie in front of his door, and jumped slightly. “The fuck are you doing?” He spat as he started to get up.
Moxxie blinked and jumped himself, realizing how weird he may have looked. His face became a deep shade of red. “Sorry sir! I didn’t want to disturb you and I was just waiting for Millie…” He rambled as he sat himself down at the table. Blitzø still stared at him in confusion, slightly wondering what the issue was. Not really thinking about how long he had probably been there.
“Morning, Boss! Got you a drink!” Millie hollered as she tossed a soda can at his direction, which Blitzø caught.
“Thanks, Mills,” He said while opening it to chug some of it down before starting their morning meeting.
Later, during their break, Moxxie was explaining to Millie how he thought Blitzø reminded himself of The Phantom.
“That’s an interesting point you make there, M” Millie said, slightly serious but slightly joking.
“I’m serious though, Mills! It’s weird I know, but for some reason, when I was looking at him… the thought came to me. And not just because of that scar on his eye… Just because of how he looked. He looked lost. Mysterious. It kinda changed the way I think about him.” Moxxie explained. He went through an analysis in his head of both Erik from the musical and Blitzø, noticing the similarities in attitude and character. As he pondered, he came to a conclusion, “He should totally fucking see it.” Stars were in his eyes as he thought about the boss watching the musical and seeing himself in it.
Millie blinked at him, waiting for him to tell her that he was joking. Moxxie looked back at her, realizing what she was thinking, and pouted, “I’m serious! I already told you!”
She shook her head and placed a hand on his, “I understand, baby, but what if he takes it the wrong way…” She bit her lip. “I think it's a great idea, but I’m just not sure how he would take it, plus I’m pretty sure he doesn’t even like musicals like that… other than horse musicals…” She thought and put her other hand to her chin, thinking about pony musicals more.
“I know, Mills, I know.” He tightened his grip on her hand, “But this might be a chance to deepen our relationship. Because personally, I think there is no greater bond than there is through a musical.” He hummed as Blitzø walked in the door. Usually, he went out for a walk during their breaks. Loona sometimes went with him just to make sure he wouldn’t get himself into trouble, but it looks like she went out on her own since she hasn’t been back yet.
“What are you two sluts doing?” He laughed as he eyed the two holding hands at the table.
“I’M!” Millie jumped up from her chair, causing both Blitzø and Moxxie to stare at her in surprise. She realized she said that out of nowhere and her eyes shot around the room looking for an excuse. “Going to the bathroom!” She quickly walked to the door, “I’ll be back!~” She waved and slammed the door behind her.
Blitzø stared at the door when she left and looked back at Moxxie, pointing at the door with his thumb. “What, she on her period or something?”
Moxxie stayed silent, not sure why Millie left so suddenly until it came to him. “Oh! Um! Sir!” He got up and walked up to Blitzø. Who eyed him weirdly, but didn’t move. “Me and Millie had a wonderful night the other day.” He blushed and looked away, thinking about how to bring the topic up.
“Oh? You’re finally inviting me into your relationship?” Blitzø smiled and put his hands on his hips.
Moxxie paused and screeched, “What?! No! I mean… we watched a movie.” He stopped, looking at Blitzø to make sure he was still listening. He was. “It’s called Phantom of the Opera… It’s a musical. A-and it’s actually a very complex tale about a tragic and mysterious figure and his passion and love for this opera singer, Christine. However, he is turmoiled by-” Blitzø stopped him by holding a hand to his face as he put his other hand to his right temple to soothe it.
“Fuck okay you gotta stop with those big words I don’t understand a goddamn word you’re saying, M” He grumbled and frowned. Moxxie frowned as well, he forgets that the boss tends to space out when he talks, yeah it annoys him but he also knows that he can just talk too fast sometimes and it’s hard for the old man to understand him. After all, like Blitzø likes to talk about, he is a college dropout.
“Sorry… I just…” Moxxie swallowed and looked up at Blitzø, “I know you don’t like to talk about your past and all but…” As soon as he said that, Blitzø froze but didn’t say anything. Giving Moxxie the okay to continue, “But the character in this movie, he just reminds me of you. In a way.” Moxxie tried really hard to sound sincere because he was. “Just… hold on.” He fiddled in his pocket, looking for his phone. He wanted to show Blitzø a picture of Erik before continuing. He found a picture of him with his famous mask and cape and shoved it in Blitzø’s face, who took the phone and studied the photo. He stared at it for a long time, opening his mouth but Moxxie beat him to it, “And it’s not just because of the scars sir. It’s his personality. He’s mysterious yeah, but his characteristics, they remind me so much of you.” Moxxie fidgeted with his hands.
Blitzø still had the phone in his hand, eyes not leaving the picture as he spoke back, “I remember you wearing a costume of this guy a however many Halloweens ago…” His voice was a little soft. Moxxie wasn’t sure what was going on in his head at the moment. But he nodded, blushing as he remembered that was when he first watched the original movie.
“He has such love in his heart. But finds it hard to face it and express it because of his fears of rejection.” Moxxie explained, turning his head away, looking at the door to Blitzø’s office, where he originally thought about his comparison. He also turned away in fear of what Blitzø’s face would reveal. However, he could hear Blitzø sucking a small breath in. “I know we’re not very close, sir, but I believe the comparisons that I have made are not to harm you but a further attempt to understand you.” He finally looked back up at his boss, his face unreadable. Not sure if that was a good sign or not, which caused him to stumble, “I-I’m sorry if I offended you at all I know it was probably a lot and I didn’t mean to pry and go on and on about some movie that I watched and thought you would-”
“Mox.” Blitzø interrupted. The abrupt use of his nickname made Moxxie close his mouth. Blitzø sighed and handed his phone back, which Moxxie took and frowned, unsure of the meaning behind the exchange until, “You want me to watch it? That movie?”
Moxxie froze. Mouth slightly open and surprised, “Oh! Y-Yeah I would! I would really like it if you would, sir!” He stepped closer to him but Blitzø stepped back slightly.
“Yea okay, I’ll watch it. Just don’t explode or anything, weirdo.”
Moxxie squealed, “I’ll try not to sir.”
“FUCK YEA!” Millie screamed as she broke down the door with her head. She jumped into the office excitedly and walked up to the pair.
“MILLIE!!” The pair screamed. Blitzø ran to the door exclaiming and yelling about the cost of the door and about how the one person who actually uses the door, broke said door.
“...Were you listening that whole time?” Moxxie blushed and switched his glances between her and Blitzø.
“Maybe.” Millie cooed as she grabbed his cheek, stretched it, and then kissed it fondly. “I knew you had it in you.”
Moxxie smiled and looked at Blitzø, “I’ll give you the DVD I have, I think you’ll really really enjoy it, sir.”
“Yea yea got it But right now I’ve got more important fucking things to worry about. LIKE THIS FUCKING DOOR YOU FUCKS!” Blitzø screamed.
“WHAT THE FUCK?!” Screamed Loona as she stood in the doorway, where the door was supposed to be. Everyone then started to scream and yell at each other. A normal day for I.M.P. really.
Blitzø sat down that night to watch the DVD Moxxie had given him…
“...”
“This fucking sucks…”
