Chapter Text

Toya placed the coffee down on the counter, “One black coffee for Akito.” He called out to the café, an orange haired man quickly thanking him as he went off with his drink.

Toya sighed, leaning onto the counter. That was around the fourth time that man, Akito, had come and ordered something this week.

Kohane came up behind him, “What's got you looking so gloomy, Aoyagi?”

Toya turned his head to look at her, “Akito, don't you recognize him by now? He always comes in at the same time to order the same exact thing. I've started basing when he comes in on how long I've been working.”

Kohane giggled, “Maybe he comes during his break? That's strange though.”

Toya looked at him, he noticed Akito would sometimes let his gaze linger on Toya, but would always snap back to looking at his drink when Toya noticed.

“Hm…But he's always coming in just before my shift ends.”

“Coincidences happen, plus, it's a pretty versatile time.”

SLAP!

Toya's vision snapped over to Akito, who currently had a hand on his forehead, rubbing at a gradually reddining mark.

The black haired girl with Akito was chewing him off about something, tugging on his ear.

“Akito! You're the biggest idiot I've ever met!” An released her grip on Akito's ear, sighing. She jumped up from her seat, stomping up to the counter, “One cheesecake, one strawberry parfait, and one herbal tea please.” She slapped a bill onto the counter, Toya nervously thanking her as Kohane quickly grabbed the girl's order.

Toya placed the tray Kohane had given him on the counter, “Thank you for your purchase.” He bowed his head.

“Of course, thank you too.”

She stomped back to Akito, slamming the sweets in front of him, “If I get you high on sugar will you grow some common sense?”

“What the hell?!” Akito whined, but didn't protest against starting to dig into the sweets.

“All I've listened to all week is about how you wanna come here to!!!-” She switched to whispering, “-get your daily ten minutes of staring at that guy! You're so damn creepy! Just ask for his number! Please. So I don't have to deal with you!”

“Wha? Maybe I just like the treats here!”

“Oh shut up…I can see the googoo eyes you give him every damn time!”

“Googoo eyes?- An! The hell are you talking about?!”

“You know. You look like a lovesick idiot, anyone can tell. That guy is oblivious as hell, with the way you're looking at him you could be screaming I'm in love with you! And he would mistake it for you loving his baking!”

An swatted Akitos head, “Please,” she handed him a piece of paper and a pen, “put your number on here.”

Akito rolled his eyes, “I don't wanna be a creep.”

“You already are.”

“Whuh?...”

Toya gently set down a wooden spoon on the table, “You forgot to bring this with you when you picked up your order.” He smiled.

“Oh! Thank you very much.” An shoved the paper even further over to Akito.

“Is the food alright…?”

“It's lovely! I love it. This is probably my new favorite café.” Akito bombarded him with compliments.

“Ah, thank you very much.” Toya turned to walk away, “Say,” He glanced back, “I could start preparing your coffee before you come in if you'd like. It's a special thing we offer for repeat customers.”

Akito was probably a deep enough shade of red that his hair made him look like a flame, “That'd be amazing, thanks.”

As soon as Toya turned to walk away, An jabbed Akito in the cheek with the pen, “Jesus Christ, he's got you memorized as a repeat customer.”

“He's just doing his job?!”

Akito grumbled, shoving a spoonful of cheesecake into his mouth.

An grabbed the paper and pen, pulling them towards her.

She quickly jotted down, Shinonome Akito - 7**-***-**** before folding the paper up nice and small.

“C'mon, hurry up on that parfait or I'm gonna start stealing some.”

“Do as you please, I think you ordered way too much.” Akito slipped another bite of cheesecake into his mouth.

Once they finished up, An slipped the paper to Toya before leaving, winking as she pulled Akito along into the freezing late afternoon.

Toya sat on his floor, his phone out in front of him with the paper between the two.

He had been given Akito's number.

What was he meant to say in the first place?

Toya groaned, probably just open with the truth?...He already had the chat open…

He started typing,

Akito

Hello, it's Toya from the café. Your black haired friend gave me your number when you two were leaving earlier today, I'm not sure of her motive, so if you'd like you can delete my number.

He waited just a moment before receiving a reply,

oh hey, yeah An’s been teasing me about needing to make more friends. Idk if you'd want to but I mean we could be friends??? Sorry I suck at making friends college took it all out of me

If it's okay with you I wouldn't mind. I'm off to bed at the moment, I'll text you when I clock in tomorrow.

Good night, Akito.

Toya clicked his phone off, letting out a breath he didn't even know he was holding.

He set his phone on his bedside table, before falling forwards onto it and promptly falling asleep immediately.

Akito got dressed as quickly as possible after waking up, he had to be there to greet Toya when his shift started. Akito had even made sure his hair was looking as amazing as possible while he eyed his phone for a notification like a hawk.

He had turned off notifications for everything and everyone else but Toya.

As soon as his phone dung he lunged forward, clicking it on and immediately reading Toya's text

toya ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️💕

Morning. I'm on my way to the café.

cool cool do you mind me meeting you there?

I wouldn't mind. See you soon.

Akito's heart was about to come out of his mouth if it beat any faster, man, love at first sight is tough.

“Morning Aoyagi!” Kohane shouted from the storage closet. “Morning, Azusawa.”

Toya checked his phone, Akito was on his way, right? He should probably start a coffee for him.

He started up the machine just as the door swung open, a panting - Had he ran here?- Akito entering the café, “Good morning Toya!”

“Ah, Akito, I've started up a coffee for you.”

“Oh, auhhhaaa thank you!” Akito came forward to the counter, “Your hair looks really cool in the morning, with the sun on it.” Akito stumbled through his extremely bad attempt at flirting, but hey, Toya seemed to appreciate it, “Thank you, Yours also looks very pretty in the morning. It makes you look very handsome.”

“Hah-?” The coffee machine dinged, attracting Toyas attention.

Toya thought he was handsome?

“Akito,” Toya slid into the booth Akito was sitting at waiting for Toyas shift to end, “Have you heard of Wonderlands x Showtime?”

“Yeah? You going to see their new play?”

Toya deflated, “Ah. I didn't think about that. But! I think you'd like to know I'm friends with the entire troupe, they've invited me and a friend of choice to eat dinner, their treat.”

Akito was a bit taken aback, “Dinner with all of Wonderlands x Showtime?”

Toya nodded enthusiastically, “Tsukasa asked me yesterday if I'd like to come, Emu was in charge of preparing invitations.”

“Sure, I wouldn't mind. That sounds pretty fun, but, where’re we going out to?”

Toya smiled, just a bit, “It's a fancy five star restaurant, they brought me last time and I had a great time. The food is great!”

“You've… A five star restaurant? Seriously? Are you sure this won't permanently dent everyone's wallets?”

“Ah, of course not! It's run by the Otori family so we already get half off anyways, family and friend discount!”

“Jesus..” Akito wasn't quite used to…being friends with anyone who had that much money? Sure, An and Ken owned their bar, but it wasn't a five star restaurant.

“Here, here,” Toya slipped a piece of paper over to Akito, “This is the location, date, time, attire, and the menu! If you're worried about anything you can look at this.”

Attire? He had to dress a certain way?

“Thank you, Toya. I should probably get going now, though.”

“Oh, alright. You are coming though, correct?”

“Of course.”

And with that, Akito headed off to his shabby apartment, preparing for the dinner which was apparently taking place tomorrow.
