Chapter Text
Everything about that white boy just rubs Vinny off the wrong way. Aside from his striking blonde hair, disgustingly gorgeous blue eyes, and annoying fluency in English; all Vinny had ever understood coming out that mouth is the word Jay. Jay, Jay, Jay, and Jay. Vinny absolutely hates the fact that it happens way too often at that too.
Every time he sees Owen, he's always clinging to Jay, constantly prodding him to have a bike match between them, which Jay always stubbornly rejects. How did Vinny even understood that, you might ask? Well, his English vocabulary only consists of “bike” and “match”, and it doesn’t take much to put two and two together. Anyway, that Owen guy had already pissed him off right from the very beginning. He doesn’t like how tall he was the first time he saw him, or how pale his skin was. How he can’t speak Korean, and how much he looks like Shelly when they’re not even goddamn related. Plus, he’s geeking over her way too much that he tends to lose his usual class whenever she’s near. They look related, for fuck’s sake, did he not ever think about how weird that is?
But fuck, this wasn’t the point.
The point was that Owen fusses over Jay too, and that’s what Vinny didn’t like the most. He kept quiet about it though, deciding not to be so dramatic because he knows that Jay is bothered by the guy’s shit everyday and to know that is already enough for Vinny.
…Or so, that’s what he thought.
This morning, he received a text from Jay saying that he left his glasses somewhere in his house. The guy couldn’t see for the life of him, so Vinny had no other choice but to hand it to him eventually when he gets a vacant time.
(Jay didn’t even bother telling him to bring it, Vinny just decided that fully on his own. He really just had to check. It was a must. Because these days, he’s getting more and more bothered by the way Owen kept glancing down at Jay then smirking right after that stare down. He kept silent about that too because he trusts Jay enough. Unfortunately, he didn’t trust Owen as much.)
im outside.
come out
At exactly 12:35, he was already at Sunny High.
There were students glancing at his flashy image, whispering and giggling everywhere. They were mostly freshman girls and Vinny didn’t quite like the attention. Their uniform was as red as his hair, so why not stare at themselves instead? Vinny scowls as proof that he isn’t in the mood to take bullshit today.
Leaning against the bricks that hold the Sunny High gates together, he waits for Jay to come out as he looks down at the “read” that only appeared in their conversation just now. Jay didn’t need to reply for Vinny to know that he’s already on the way. The redhead waits patiently in the meantime, tucking both his hands inside his pockets with Jay’s glasses sitting cozily inside his messenger bag.
Not long after, as Vinny was scrolling through his phone to keep himself distracted from the prying eyes, two freshman girls were about to approach him. Cheeks all flushed pink and smiles reaching up their ears. Vinny had already looked up with a soft scowl to scare them away when Jay finally, finally, appears behind him.
“Hey,” the soft range of his tone is all too familiar that it instantly catches Vinny like a fish taking the bait. It was as if Jay’s presence was a magnetic tool, attracting all of Vinny towards him. The redhead nods nonchalantly, but his eyes glow a certain way when he stands up from the brick wall.
“Hey.” Then he greets back in the same tone. Indifferent and aloof. Though the two of them knew better.
The girls were easily forgotten as they eventually left in a state of embarrassment but Vinny couldn’t care less about what they feel. Jay’s palm sticks out. Vinny opens his bag without a word, digging for the glasses an idiot had left in his home.
He finds it quickly. He was handing it to Jay when he notices something from the corner of his different toned eyes. He couldn’t resist glancing over the raven’s shoulder to prove himself correct. The glasses plops on Jay’s hand, a small “thanks” is uttered quietly, but Vinny seems to be preoccupied.
Fucking white boy, Vinny’s frown deepens when he realizes. Owen is following closely behind Jay. He certainly made an effort to follow Jay all the way out here from the seniors’ wing and Vinny isn’t at all happy about it.
Jay notices where the redhead is fixated on, his head turning around. He’s greeted with that grin of Owen’s. A menace’s, really. All Jay could do is sigh, glasses hanging from his nose now.
Meanwhile, Vinny is keeping his gaze firm on the blonde. Especially when he halts right next to Jay. Oh, that fucker. He’s looking like he’s picking Jay up and away from him. Vinny really hates it when he feels like Owen keeps taking Jay away like he’s the threat here when in reality, it’s the other way around.
“The fuck you here for?” And if Vinny is best known for something, it’s for his bad temper and sharp tongue.
Right now, Owen is really getting on his nerves. He couldn’t quite wrap his mind around the feeling of Owen always interrupting at the most necessary times between him and Jay. For fuck’s sake, this had been happening a lot in the past already and Vinny is starting to catch up that it’s not just silly coincidences. The redhead can’t keep letting Owen take Jay from his hold. He can’t. Not when he specifically came all the way to Sunny High just to see Jay. His fucking lover, thank you very much.
Owen even had the audacity to laugh, the bell ringing from the main building along with the obnoxious sound of his disgusting laughter. “I don’t understand.” He grins, eyes disappearing. He turns to Jay, smile suddenly softer but the mischievous glint in his gaze remains and it’s sending Vinny into a spiral. That fucking creep.
“What did he say? Seems like he just cussed me out, no?”
“He doesn’t like you.” Jay says flatly. In English too. He glances up to the tall blonde. “You should not have come.”
And Owen chuckles at what Jay had said like it was something funny, but Vinny isn’t catching on so he doesn’t really know. He doesn’t get half the shit they’re saying, and it doesn’t sit right with him at all. Fuck. Is Jay flirting or what?
Vinny could only scoff, getting swayed by the anger building up in the center of his chest. What sucks more is that Jay had to go now. He didn’t even get a word with him alone because of this foreigner popping out of complete nowhere in the most perfect fucking timing.
He couldn’t speak. Vinny couldn’t say anything even when Jay reaches for his arm in a gentle, knowing hold, as he whispers a small, “I’ll go to yours later.”
Vinny couldn’t even refuse because Jay had already turned away from him, walking together with Owen back to their classroom.
He could only watch.
Owen was yapping once again, but Jay has his ears shut off.
Just about right, Vinny had thought to himself with a firm scowl. He really doesn’t fucking like this. He doesn’t like seeing Owen. He doesn’t like seeing Owen with Jay. Huh. That fucking bastard just never fails to get himself under his skin, huh?
For now, Vinny could only turn away too. He starts walking to God knows where. Maybe he’ll go back and attend his afternoon class, maybe not. Vinny grabs his bike, then begins cycling away. A cafe it is. He needs to clear his mind for a bit, and a school full of gangsters isn’t exactly a good fucking environment now is it?
At 7:40, Vinny arrives home. He parks his bike by leaning it against the wall of their front yard before proceeding to open the door to the main house. He gets quite startled when he notices that the lights are already on.
It’s the one and only. Of course. Jay came way before the owner could even. The smug little prick.
Vinny starts removing his shoes, still tasting the bitterness of the iced americano on his tongue. Once he cleared his Vans away, he starts walking through the small hallway with socks on. As predicted, Jay is reading some books on his mattress on the floor.
Vocal greetings aren’t exactly their thing. They just share a glance towards each other to acknowledge that one’s here before going back to doing their own separate doings. Jay went back to his reading after doing exactly that and Vinny went straight to the kitchen. And was that just his blue sweats Jay is currently wearing on the bed?
..Well, whatever.
Vinny snatches a bottled water from the fridge before shutting the fridge’s door more loudly than he intended to. It causes Jay to say a quick but stern “quiet.”
The redhead gulps the cold water down, completely ignoring Jay on the other side of the wall.
They aren’t speaking. They might be two men of short words, sure, but this is odd. On a normal day, they would already be asking questions about how their days went even if the both of them will only acknowledge each other’s stories with a soft grunt and short comments in the end right about now.
Nobody seems to dare speak.
Vinny puts the empty water bottle down. He goes to his wardrobe just beside his mattress where Jay is seated to change into clean clothes.
(Jay was glancing at Vinny’s lean and pale back the whole time he was undressing and dressing up, but nobody had to know that. Not even the redhead himself.)
Eventually, Vinny flops down his mattress with a loud tired groan. He grabs for the comic book he left open somewhere in the mess of his pillows and sheets, deciding to continue it now. And no, he doesn’t offer Jay anything to eat. Yet, anyway. He’s not in the right mood at the moment to do so and Jay doesn’t seem to mind.
They stay like that for a good while, just sitting and lying in silence in their own two space bubbles. They’re together even as they minded their own businesses, so it isn’t such a big deal.
Except, well, it is.
Quite a bit.
There’s a small gap separating them in the small space of the mattress. Vinny’s head is almost touching Jay’s knee, but Vinny is being so careful not to make a wrong move or he’ll end up making contact. He lays in silence instead, just spacing out in between the pages of his superhero comic. He doesn’t understand a shit about what he says he’s reading.
His train of thoughts only lead to one way, which is back to the image of Owen and Jay earlier. Vinny couldn’t get the picture out of his head for the rest of the day and it has really became a burden to him. A big fucking one at that. Vinny might look quiet and indifferent up front, but the truth of it all is that his thoughts are in a complete jumble. He had never felt like this before. Not before Jay, anyway.
Christ, he feels so possessive. And that white boy seriously doesn’t know any fucking boundaries. Well, it’s not like their relationship is out to anyone yet. They both mutually decided to keep it in the shadows, but now? With Owen always on Jay’s tail like that? God. Vinny will gladly announce that Jay’s already dating him on freaking posters. He’ll paste them on the streets for all he fucking cares. Vinny really is not having it at all anymore. His blood is already boiling just by thinking about blonde locks and crystal blue eyes.
The comic book drops to his chest, making a small thud. Jay quickly switches his attention to Vinny.
Different colored eyes stare up at the ceiling.
“Does he like you?” Vinny finally asks, having enough of this play pretend with the raven haired. Jay instantly looks away once he hears the question.
“Who?” He knows what Vinny meant, and that he’s just playing dumb. Vinny takes it. He doesn’t care.
“That fucking white boy.” And he almost snarls, turning his head sideways in attempt to look at Jay over his shoulder.
Jay stays unfazed. “No, he doesn’t.”
And Vinny scoffs, “Well, he surely needs to be clinging on to you somehow, doesn’t he? Every single damn time.” He’s persistent on the topic. Stubborn even. He’s just saying what he wants to hear right now and Jay knows better. Always does. So, he doesn’t argue.
He flips to another page of his book, the page softy resting on his slightly calloused finger pads. “He just wants a match.” Jay says simply, “Nothing else.”
Nothing, he says. Nothing. Fuck. It’s not just nothing. Not to Vinny anyway. It means something to him.
But he stays silent, not revealing any more emotions past that deep frown of his. He continues staring at the ceiling, as if it’s gonna fall anytime if he isn’t careful. Jay glances back at the deadly silent redhead, the idea of him sulking makes Jay stiffen and a bit awkward because he knows he’s gotta tame the sulking cat now. Okay, Jay has been aware of how close Owen is sticking to him these past days like he has an intention of switching his face with his. Owen has been so tenacious about taking Jay on a race, which Jay had been so clear about not being interested in, but Owen is a piece of shit so what more can you expect of him?
At some point, Jay also started noticing how he seems to be making the daily bike race offer to initiate a different conversation. Jay is also uninterested in Owen’s insights, by the way, and he just wishes Owen knew how to shut up when he’s needed to. He knows how Vinny is always wary of the blonde whenever he gets included in the crew’s trainings and hangouts, the reason being Shelly’s personal chaperone, but Jay had never spoken about it. He thought he was just making things up in his head, finding a deeper meaning in Vinny’s glares even when he normally looks like that in his everyday life. Today just proves that Jay had always been right.
Vinny is still reticent when the raven haired decides to make his move. Shifting on the mattress, Jay places his textbook beside the wall before propping on a hand and leaning down to include himself in Vinny’s line of sight. Red and black eyes stare into pale grey ones behind thick lenses; the albino’s expression still blank even when Jay’s head blocks him from the ceiling light, casting a shadow over his own pale face.
“What? You worried?” Jay questions in a whisper, the same hand he’s leaning on earlier comes up to cup the other’s smooth chin. Vinny keeps his eyes on Jay, not denying the contact.
“Hell no.” His eyebrows knit softly, however his eyes hold no anger directly at Jay but he’s still annoyed about Owen. Al-fuckin’-ways. That guy should actually start counting his days.
Jay doesn’t say anything when he adjusts on his seat, laying chest down just beside Vinny’s body. He gently maneuvers Vinny’s head to the side so he’s able to properly place a small peck on his cheek. “Jealous, then?”
Vinny looks at Jay, absorbing the sudden kiss. The feel of Jay’s lips still lingers on his pale skin, and he hates to admit how easily he feels like succumbing to Jay’s advances now. But he still has an ego to feed above all. Vinny will say everything else besides admitting to the fact that he is jealous.
A series of soft kisses come for him. Jay kisses his cheekbone as he answers, “He just gets on my fucking nerves.” Vinny says roughly, narrowing his eyes at the thought of the tall foreigner again. He doesn’t turn his head away from Jay though—he’s all he can see. All he ever wants to see.
“He’s a huge creep.”
“He is.” Jay kisses his temple.
“Fucking bastard can’t take no for an answer,” and Vinny begins babbling as Jay just continues giving him smooches while he does so. Unbothered by most. He couldn’t care less about Owen because he knows he can tell him off whenever he wants to. Seeing Vinny act like this is serving him some entertainment. He likes how good it makes him feel inside when Vinny gets possessive over him.
Jay kisses Vinny’s pale forehead, and Vinny continues, “He can just say he wants all your attention, that attention whore. For fuck’s sake—he even went to pick you up when the bell rang like it’s his place, goddammit. Are you even that damn close with him?”
“I’m not close with him at all.”
“I know,” Vinny almost growls. Jay pulls back, holding himself up on both his elbows. His slender fingers begin combing through slick red locks. Vinny’s gaze never tore away from Jay at all. “You wouldn’t do that to yourself, would you?” He scoffs, “You don’t usually do charity work.”
And Jay doesn’t speak on that. They fall into silence to just take in one another’s presence by their sides. They stare into each other’s eyes, admiring mutedly because they ever rarely use words. The important thing is that they mutually understand, and know, and it being enough for trust to build.
Vinny’s eyes flick down to Jay’s plump lips. It looks like it’s been waiting for a hi ever since he came home pissed. Vinny is sorry for neglecting it.
Jay follows where Vinny’s eyes had landed and immediately gets what the redhead is saying. Without a fight, both of them lean in the same time to capture each other’s lips in a quick chaste kiss. Vinny had been meaning to do that. He hasn’t been able to for the past days for who knows the reason. Their gazes lock when they both pulled away, and Jay’s fingers playing with Vinny’s hair is so soothing that Vinny actually thinks he can sleep like this.
In the comfort of Jay’s presence.
Just the two of them for once. That blonde devil can go kiss his own ass.
God. He just wants Jay.
“Just admit you were sulking.” Jay’s monotone is what pulls him back to reality. There’s a pause before Vinny responds, “I’m being possessive, dumbass. I don’t like the way he keeps lookin’ at you.”
“So, you were jealous?”
“Jerk.” And he frowns, a bit ashamed of the fact that he indeed was, he just didn’t want to admit that to himself and Jay. His shoulders relax when Jay falls silent again. He isn’t the most talkative, and neither is Vinny, so it’s all fine. The way Jay’s fingers thread through his hair already tells a lot.
This time, Vinny is the one to initiate some physical contact. He runs his thumb on the raven haired’s plump bottom lip ever so leisurely. He fixates on the way he does so while still keeping their conversation in the room. “Fuck,” he rasps, “I just hate the way he keeps getting in my way.” The redhead’s eyes twitch in the memory. “I’m gonna bust his head through a wall when I see him get near you again next time.”
“No one’s busting anyone’s head through a wall.” And it shows a lot about who’s the one keeping everyone sane in this relationship. Jay leans down again, very giving to his spoilt urges, and lands another soft kiss on Vinny’s full lips. For a brief moment, Vinny closed his eyes to just savor the gift he has been given, but the gates of heaven swiftly closed for him as soon as Jay pulled away. Now, he can only stare at that face again. Vinny was about to mistake it for an angel’s if only he didn’t remember Jay’s shitty personality.
But he’s so handsome. Annoyingly so. And Vinny is thinking of eating him alive right now.
“I’d do it.” But he’s muttering instead, getting lost in those grey eyes. “I’d do it if it’s for you.”
And Jay startles, eyes widening slightly because that’s what he least expected to hear from Vinny. He can feel his heart melt, and it’s so utterly disgusting for the both of them to be this soft and vocal towards each other; saying crazy shit in whispers like an actual real couple.
Jay doesn’t quite hide the blush that crept to his face a second ago, so when Vinny notices that, he couldn’t help but blush a bit too.
“I’d bust your head through a wall, dumbass.” Jay rasps, masking his emotions well through a sharp retort, his face so much more closer to Vinny’s now. Vinny takes note of the distance and scoffs.
Another silence. They always seem to be waiting for the other in small pauses in between the gaps of their conversation. Until Vinny is the one who can’t seem to resist Jay any longer, so he starts by holding the raven haired by the back of his neck. Jay doesn’t look away nor flinched.
“Come here.”
Vinny had said huskily before he pulls Jay in, kissing him properly this time. Their eyes close slowly, lips moving in a slow dance they are so familiar with now. They like this rhythm, slow and gentle. Unlike who they really are outside, in either bike races or in general, they handle each other with care fueled with their mutual adoration. Despite the pace, they can still feel each other’s hunger, especially when Vinny takes out his tongue for Jay.
The peacefulness in Vinny’s house is filled with no other than their smooches and unsteady breathing. Both of them pull away soon enough before one of them dies from the lack of air—a thin string of saliva connecting them. Fire is burning inside their orbs as they stare into one another after a minute worth make out session. Jay has his fist gripping Vinny’s shirt while Vinny has his hand on his nape still, and they’re breathing heavily in close proximity.
“Vinny, you fuck.” is Jay’s own creative way of telling that he’s an absolute sucker for the way the redhead would kiss him and that he inwardly admits that Vinny is the best fucking kisser out there ever. Vinny can tell that much from the way Jay’s breath had trembled while uttering the syllables of his name.
And when Jay cusses him like that, the curse word in between soft pants, he takes it as a compliment.
“I don’t fuckin’ like sharing you.” Then he says suddenly, voice quiet and calm but holds the most dangerous venom. He wants Jay to stick his words into his hard head, and that is what Jay does. He stares intently into Vinny’s beautiful heterochromia eyes. Jay gets that.
Vinny had always been selfish, anyway.
“You go tell that to fuckface next time.”
And that, Jay will.
