Work Text:
Vaggie loved to watch her girlfriend sleep.
Not in a weird way. She thought. Charlie just always had so much energy, that seeing her like this, still and relaxed, with her body heat warming Vaggie and the two of them so close that Vaggie could physically feel her breathing…it was nice.
Alright, maybe it was a little weird. But Vaggie didn’t mind–she would be the weirdest fucking weirdo alive if it meant she got to see as much of this beautiful woman as she could.
She felt Charlie stir next to her, squirming slightly as her lashes fluttered open, and Vaggie grinned down at her. “Morning, baby.”
Charlie smiled up at her sweetly. “Good morning.” She sat up, stretching her arms above her head, blonde hair sticking out around her head like a halo.
Vaggie chuckled. “Looks like your little friends want to say good morning, too.”
“Huh?” Charlie looked behind herself. “Oh!” Behind her, six tiny white wings with blood-red feathers were stuck straight out to the sides. “Is that normal?”
Vaggie nodded. “Yeah, that happens to most people when their wings are first growing in. Your body’s still learning how to use all the new muscles and nerves and shit.” She grimaced. “Adam always used to call them ‘wing boners’.”
Charlie chuckled awkwardly. “That Adam. Always so…tactful.”
Vaggie snorted. “Anyway, they should go down in about half an hour or so.”
Charlie threw her head back and groaned dramatically. “Ugh, I don’t wanna wait that long to say good morning to everybody!”
Vaggie shrugged. “Alright. If you’re okay with them showing through your shirt, then sure.”
“Hmm…” Charlie thought for a few seconds, then nodded resolutely. “I’m ready for everybody to know.”
Charlie pressed her forehead to Vaggie’s, nuzzling their noses together before she pulled back. “I’m going to go get dressed, mkay?” She grabbed some clothes and headed into the bathroom, humming softly.
Vaggie stared after her for a few seconds with a soft, fond smile, then rose and began preparing for the day.

Charlie bounced next to the door to her and Vaggie’s room nervously, dressed in a sleeveless black dress that allowed her wings to poke out at the sides. They were still sticking out , and Vaggie smoothed down a few errant feathers absentmindedly. Charlie shivered slightly at the touch, leaning in closer without even seeming to realize she was doing it. “Ready, hon?” Vaggie asked with a wry smile.
Charlie beamed at her and leaned down, placing a pale hand on her cheek and pulling her in for a kiss. “Born ready.”
The two walked into the kitchen hand in hand, giggling to one another. No one took much notice at first, but after a few seconds, Angel did a double-take as he looked at them more closely, grabbed Cherri’s hand from where she was sitting next to him, dragging her with him up to the couple. “What the hell’s this, dollface?” he demanded.
Charlie stared at him blankly. “What’s what?” Vaggie snorted softly.
Cherri rolled her eye. “You know what we’re talking about, bitch, don’t play dumb.”
Charlie covered her mouth with the hand that wasn’t intertwined with Vaggie’s and giggled. “Yeah, I do. They started growing a couple months ago, after, y'know...everything.”
The spider laughed incredulously. “You’ve seriously been holding out on us that long?” He grinned. “You look even more like your daddy now, huh princess?”
Charlie chuckled. “I guess it’s a pretty strong resemblance, huh?”
Alastor appeared as if from nowhere, his grin seeming strained and a strange, unreadable expression in his eyes. “You’re his spitting image, my dear.”
“Oh! Hello, Alastor,” Charlie said, smiling awkwardly. “Um…”
The radio demon laughed good-naturedly, although there was an unsettling, manic edge to the sound. “They’re lovely, sweetheart. Ah!” His eyes landed on the maid and he strode across the room. “Niffty! Do you have that venison I asked for, darling?”
Charlie chuckled nervously. “That…could have gone worse,” she whispered to Vaggie.
Vaggie frowned. “I guess. Ugh.” Her face lit up as her eyes caught someone else across the room. “Emily!” she called.
“Coming!” the seraph responded cheerfully, weaving her way over on slightly-unsteady legs as she balanced a tray of fruit and pancakes. When she looked at Charlie, she gasped. “Oh! They’re… Wow!
Charlie smiled shyly. “They probably aren’t exactly what you’re used to, huh?”
Emily smiled. “Nope! But they’re beautiful, Charlie. Oh, Lucifer is gonna flip!” She strode away, giggling, and Vaggie was happy to see that her wings looked like they were getting better by the day. She was quickly replaced by Husk.
The cat demon cocked one oversized eyebrow. “Those are new,” he observed.
Charlie grinned. “Yeah. We sort of match now, huh?”
He chuckled. “It’ll be good to have somebody else around who can help me preen. Niffty’s always way too rough, and Angel is always trying to turn it into some sort of bone sesh before they’re done.”
“Sorry, baby!” Angel called cheerfully from across the kitchen, not sounding sorry in the slightest.
Charlie smiled down at Husk, not acknowledging Angel. “Thank you, Husk. It means a lot that you would trust me enough to let me help you with that.”
His cheeks grew noticeably redder beneath his fur. “Oh, come on, princess, don’t make it some sort of emotional thing.”
She laughed cheerfully. “Too late!”
“Charlie!” a voice called from behind them, and the two women spun quickly.
Lucifer smiled up at Charlie adoringly. “Wow. Look at you, little lady. I was right! There are six! Just like mine!” He bounced slightly on his toes, and Vaggie realized suddenly that he and Charlie bounced like that in exactly the same way, a sort of nervous or excited habit they had in common. How did I never notice that?
Charlie squealed. “Oh, Dad!” She pulled her father off his feet into an excited bear hug, and he chuckled, a massive grin spreading across his face and his own wings wrapping around Charlie.
Vaggie pulled out her phone and took a surreptitious picture. “Cute,” she whispered, taking a look before saving it.
“Ooh! Let me see!” Charlie demanded, setting her father down and grabbing onto Vaggie’s arm excitedly.
Vaggie batted her away, laughing. “Fine, fine. Calm down, hon.”
“So,” Angel asked from the table, taking a sip of his orange juice, “why are they sticking out like that? Is it, like, morning wood for your wings?”
Charlie groaned. “Angel, why do you always have to make everything dirty?”
“Yes.” Lucifer and Vaggie responded to Angel in unison, speaking at the exact same time as Charlie.
“Ugh!” Charlie cried, throwing her head back dramatically, although the exasperated facade was ruined by the quiet giggles that escaped her mouth. “You’re all impossible!”
And so the morning went, from breakfast into the rest of the day’s activities, and if Vaggie took a few more pictures, and even a video of Charlie’s wings practically vibrating like a hummingbird’s whenever she got a little too excited? Well, that was for her to know, and everyone else to find out. Maybe in the form of a slideshow.
