Chapter Text
Brooklyn-1610 was a wreck. Smoke cloaked the city, and rubble covered the streets. The screams of civilians being evacuated could barely be heard through the chaos.
Miles brushed the gravel and dust off of his suit and stood up with a groan. He was just about to swing back up again when he was pulled up to the tallest building in the city.
In front of him was the face of the Spot— no, the Abyss — phasing through different colors and shapes. He was massive, laying waste to anything blocking his past. Miles was outraged at his enemy. His city didn’t deserve to suffer because of a petty grudge.
But just as he was about to attack, he froze at the sound of the Abyss’s voice.
His voice was distorted, like many different voices speaking in sync. He sounded like something out of one of the horror movies he regretted watching.
“Well, Spider-Man. Is this enough destruction for you?” The Abyss said with an eerie cackle. “Am I finally a threat worth facing?”
Miles couldn’t speak. This was all too much. He couldn’t see any remnants of his home town below. The city was unrecognizable.
“Guess not then,” The Abyss said, a bit too gleefully. “Perhaps you need more convincing.”
Just then, a portal was opened, and Miles felt his stomach drop when he realized who he was bringing through it.
Gwen Stacy was trapped in the suffocating grip of his enemy, bloodied and bruised from fighting. She struggled to get free, none of her efforts managing to do anything.
“GWEN!” Miles shouted. He tried to think of a plan to get her away from Abyss. No matter what he tried, his mind kept drawing a blank.
“Hmm. So my theory was right. This one must be pretty close to you. Ah, what a shame.” His grip on Gwen got tighter, and Miles’s blood ran cold hearing her cries of pain and the sickening sound of bones being crushed. Gwen went limp.
Probably passed out from the pain. Miles hoped thought. She had to be okay. She just had to. He couldn’t bear to lose her. Not after everything they’d been through.
“LET HER GO!” Miles shouted.
“As you wish.” Abyss said, tone sinister.
He let go of Gwen, and suddenly she was falling down, unable to save herself.
Miles took a sharp breath and leaped off of the building…
