    In the almost two years they’d been together, they had shared a bed many times. They loved the closeness of it, the intimacy. In the wake of the Abyss’s defeat, it had begun as a means of comforting each other, and it never quite stopped being that with how deep the wounds from the battle had run, both physically and psychologically. It was when Miles had first told Gwen that he loved her.

     

    Gwen had told him earlier, before the battle against the Abyss had begun. She had told him, then immediately followed it by saying she didn’t expect him to say it back. In fact, she hadn’t wanted him to say it back.

     

    “I don’t deserve to hear it.” she had said. “I don’t expect anything from you. But you deserve to know that you’re loved. … That I love you. Whatever happens today… I just want you to know.”
