Work Text:
“Here you go!” Scavenger said, one late evening after they’d gotten back to the Nemesis, as he offered Scrapper a piece of rock.
“Interesting Scavenger,” Scrapper said accepting Scavenger’s newest find, fully intending to glance over it, praise Scavenger, and set it aside to continue his work, but he stopped. It looked like a piece of a tree with white stone that flared into a rainbow of colors between the rings in the center, “how did you make an…opal?, look like a tree?”
“I didn’t,” Scavenger said wagging his tail, “it’s petrified wood! It was opalised! The silica replaced the real wood but left the pattern that makes it look like a tree, like a fossil! It’s way cooler than a normal tree!”
“It’s very cool,” Scrapper said with a smile as he placed the petrified wood at the top of his desk
Scavenger smiled under his mask and asked, “I got more do you want to see it?”
Scrapper checked his internal chronometer before shrugging and saying, “sure that sounds nice.”
Scavenger removed his mask to show off that bright smile of his as he took Scrapper’s hand to lead him off to his storage room
Scrapper stood without complaint but pulled Scavenger into his side so they could walk together
Scavenger happily cuddled into Scrapper’s side enjoying the warm feeling of their plating pressed together.
Scrapper retracted his mask to kiss the top of Scavenger’s helm receiving a purr and a flare of happiness over the bond.
