Chapter Text
He sips at his drink and looks at the people in the bar. He's trying not to let the lack of attention get to him, to be weird confirmation of his own shitty self-esteem problems, when his thoughts are interrupted by a sealed bottle of water set down on the table in front of him.
"I'd have gotten you another of what you are drinking, but I figured you wouldn't trust it, so. Bottle of water," says the most beautiful man Henry's ever seen, a devastating smile on his face, one that makes Henry's stupid, gay heart actually flutter like he's a damn teenage girl. "I'm Alex."
"Henry," he replies, swallowing against a suddenly dry throat. "And thanks. For the water. Um. What are your plans for the rest of the night? Are you doing anything?"
...he isn't usually this awkward.
Alex, at least, seems to find it charming enough, because he chuckles, the sound low and warm and doing far too many things to Henry.
"Too presumptuous to say hopefully you?"
Oh, Christ. Henry's too gay for this, for the smile that's turned wicked, for the playful look in Alex's eyes.
"Well," Henry starts, trying to find some measure of cool again, "that was my intent for coming out this evening. So, if you happen to not be opposed—"
"Sweetheart, I'm so far past 'not being opposed', I'm waving to it in the rearview. Yours or mine?" A finger comes up to brush some hair out of his face, trailing over his cheekbone, the answering blush probably makes him look sunburned.
"Yours?"
Alex's grin is almost predatory.
---
It's a one night stand, a hookup. Henry's had plenty of them before, so he knows what to expect.
Except—
He isn't expecting the way Alex touches him, slow and almost worshipful, murmured compliments pressed against Henry's skin.
The way Alex breathes out beautiful as Henry's mouth falls open, a shuddering gasp escaping at how good Alex makes him feel.
He's not expecting how Alex folds their hands together, weight carefully on his forearms, fingertips trailing over the skin of his wrists to get there.
He's definitely not expecting the way Alex presses his lips to Henry's forehead in a kiss, the soft gesture overwhelming.
He wasn't expecting the way Alex makes him feel loved.
