Eddie comes crashing through the door with an exhausted groan, heading straight to the couch and collapsing with a soft thud, burying his head into the throw pillow. He hears Steve come in from the other room but can’t even bring himself to turn his head and look at him. His day was awful. From the moment he woke up and stubbed his toe on the corner of the bed to when he pulled in the drive and realized he forgot to get gas on the way home. Every single step of the way today felt wrong. Like everything was out to get him. He even dropped his fucking sandwich on the ground at lunch and had to resort to eating the fucking apple Steve always puts in his lunch box even though it inevitably just comes back home with him at the end of the day.
Shitty fucking day. He just wants to curl in a ball and forget it happened.
Steve kneels down by Eddie’s head and runs a hand over his shoulder, squeezing a little by his neck. “You look tired.”
Eddie groans again and nods, rubbing his face against the pillow.
Steve tuts, getting up and straddling Eddie’s back, hands finding his shoulders, thumbs digging into the knotted flesh beneath his work shirt. Fuck. He didn’t even take off his work clothes. Steve hates it when he doesn’t do that. Doesn’t want him getting the grim of the shop all over their house. Another win for Eddie today. He’s really on a roll. But Steve doesn’t mention it at all. Just keeps rubbing Eddie’s shoulders, pulling soft sighs from him as he relaxes more and more into the couch under him. He always knows exactly what Eddie needs.
Eddie sighs and reaches back to squeeze Steve’s thigh. “Thank you, baby.”
Steve leans down to kiss the back of his neck and whispers into Eddie’s ear. “ If you turn over I’ll rub something else for you.”
