    Is Grace passionate?

    Is he capable of expressing his fervor for someone without the sexual aspect?

    In a way, Simon is his partner. Just not like that.

    Grace likes exactly how they are.

    Maybe that was his problem. Was he too comfortable in his bubble? Was pushing himself viewed as ‘making an effort for once’? That was something an ex had once said to him.

     

    || Grace fearfully waits for Simon to want more out of what they have. Meanwhile Simon is wholeheartedly content.

    Simon averted his gaze, staring somewhere between Grace’s knees and the dirt beneath his shoes.

    It was funny, in a sort of way, that they wore the same shoes. Who would give the scientist and the experiment the same clothes? It seemed like a waste. Although, maybe for the Eridians, it made more sense that way, so they had to make less… blueprints, or something.

    I forget my own nyctophobia in an instant.

    “Simon? Simon, can you— can you keep talking to me? I’ll come find you. Or you can follow my voice and come to me instead? Uh— where are you?”

    He is silent.

    Fudge.

    Or: the biodome lights go out in the middle of Grace's class, and no one reacts badly to it. At all.
    (alternatively: Simon doesn't do well with the darkness, but Grace is there to remind him about the light)

    It's been seven months since Grace met up again with Rocky and they started their journey to Erid.
    It's been three months since an unexpected and unexplainable passenger joined the Hail Mary.
    Three months of Grace hoping the only other human he's likely to ever encounter will survive despite having horrific injuries that he reasonably shouldn't be able to recover from. But he'd made it so far, it'd be a shame to give up now, right?
    And just as the man finally wakes up, Grace is left wondering if maybe letting him inside the Hail Mary was a huge mistake, or maybe the best decision he's ever made.

    Rocky seemed so happy through the communicator that I didn't dare say another word, afraid my voice would sound wrong and shaky.
    A human.
    Almost fifteen years later.

    Healing is not linear. Even when you think there are no more wounds left, the scars can still hurt. It's a good thing not to be alone then.
