Work Text:
Eddie climbs in the driver’s seat of his van, ignoring the bickering happening about who has to sit where as the kids all pile in the back. He looks over as Steve slides into the passenger seat and smiles, sending him a little wink as he cranks the van to life.
Dustin leans up in between the front seats, reaching forward to try and put in a tape he has in his hand.
Eddie swats his hand away, laughing meanly. “Yeah right, Henderson. I don’t think so.”
Dustin groans and flops back into his seat. “Come on! Suzie sent me this tape and I promised I’d listen to it before we talk tonight.”
Eddie scoffs. “It’s a tape from Suzie? Yeah– absolutely not, man.”
Dustin tries to protest again and Eddie just turns up the volume, blasting Metallica to drown him out.

They spend a few hours at the arcade before loading back up into Eddie’s van. Steve has that pinched look he gets on his face when he’s at the end of his rope. The kids have been picking on him all day and he had to put his new glasses on to really play any of the games and he hates them, no matter how many times Eddie tells him how adorable he looks in them.
Eddie turns the van on, Metallica blasting at them through the speakers and making Steve jump. Eddie’s hand flies out to turn the knob quickly to the left, the music backing off immediately. He pops his tape out, tossing it into the center console as he digs around for Steve’s mixtape he keeps in there. Eddie grabs it and puts it in, Tears for Fears ringing out when the tape clicks into place. Steve flashes him a knowing smirk, his cheeks flashing bright red.
Dustin scoffs from behind them, throwing his hands up. “Why does he get to listen to his tape?”
Eddie rolls his eyes and flips him off over his shoulder.
