Nano scribbled down the answer to the math problem. She glanced up to see what Rentarou was doing.
He was smiling.
"I, um, don't quite understand that. Could you explain it to me?"
Nano sighed. "Alright. The problem is tanθ + 1 = √3 + √3 cotθ, yes?"
"Uh-huh." Rentarou gave Nano a nod.
"It is quite simple from there. First, you must set one side of the equation to zero. For this particular one, would be most efficient to eliminate the left side."
Rentarou nodded scribbled down an answer. "Would it be tanθ + 1 - √3 - √3 cotθ = 0, then?"
"Yes. Do you know where to go from there?"
"Um..."
"Alright. Let me show you." She then wrote [1/cotθ + 1 - √3 - √3 cotθ =0] × cotθ.
"Oh, I see. Then, would it be this?" 1 + cotθ - √3 cotθ -√3 cot²θ = 0.
"Precisely. Then?"
"(-√3 cotθ + 1)(cotθ + 1) = 0."
"Good." Nano gave a quick nod. "You should be able to solve from there, yes?"
"Yeah! You have to put them into two separate equations, then do the order of operations, right?"
"Yes. Good work." Nano found that the more she praised Rentarou, the better the results he would give.
Rentarou sighed. "Whoo! We should take a break. It's good for you, you know."
"I agree," Nano nodded. "It would be most efficient for us to take time to let our minds rest. Too much can overload them and waste precious time."
"So then, in the meantime...do you want to cuddle?"
Nano froze. Then, she began mumbling. "3.14159265358979..."
"N-Nano?" Rentarou stammered.
Nano silenced, swallowing. Finally, she averted her eyes. "What does cuddling have to do with anything?"
"Well...cuddling has a bunch of health benefits! It's a way to calm nerves, and boosts immunity."
"Hm...in that case..." Nano stood and sat in front of Rentarou. "What is the most efficient way to achieve maximum relaxation and pleasure from this activity?"
"I don't know," Rentarou shrugged "Maybe spooning you?"
"Alright. Let us try that."
Rentarou laid down on her bed, and Nano's heart beat rapidly. She ignored her nervoudness and followed suit, facing away and letting him hold her close.
"Hm..." Nano hummed. "This is quite enjoyable. I feel as though this may by the most efficient to complete my goal. Thank you, Rentarou."
"Anytime!"
"I may just hold you to that."
Rentarou's chuckle made Nano smile a small smile, and she kissed the back of Rentarou's hand, which was closest.
"I love you, Rentarou Aijou."
"And I love you, Nano Eiai."
Nano fell silent, believing that words were futile in a situation such as this. She was a very practical girl, one who did not enjoy stepping away from what make things easier and quicker. She was one who hated explaining details that needn't be discussed, and she was one who struggled to say her feelings.
That is why she simplified it to "I love you." With her, it carried much more weight than what it appeared. She loved Rentarou, wholly and completely. Data and efficiency went out the window when she was around him, but she knew that even with that she could not begin to explain her feelings for him.
Love, she believed, was a strange but wonderful thing.
"Cuddling," she murmured, "truly is an efficient way to spend time connecting with a loved one. I thank you for showing this to me."
"No problem."
Nano closed her eyes. Perhaps a minute more would not hurt...after all, she already knew what she had to write.
