Childe woke up from his afternoon nap to the doorbell ringing. At first, he ignored it and tried going back to sleep but this person was insistent and started ringing the poor thing over and over again.
Whoever this person was will not hear the end of it from him. It was probably some Girl Scouts trying to bait people into buying their cookies. Their cookies may be good but that is no excuse to ruin his afternoon nap.
“Sorry ladies but I’m not-“ He swings the door open and the words die in his mouth as he sees who’s just in front of him.
“Childe I feel like-“ He doesn’t let him finish his sentence before he shuts the door close right in his face.
Oh, archons. Just why is Zhongli here? Why is he outside his house? What does he want? Is it bad? Or is it good? Fuck. Why did he just shut the door in his face? That makes him seem like an awful person. Good fucking job Childe, way to go! You just slammed the door on the guy you like but you should be moving on from but you physically just can’t! Now any possible chance you had with him is gone!
He hears the doorbell ring once more and he squeezes his eyes shut and lets out a sigh before slowly opening the door.
“Hey Zhongli.. Sorry about that! It’s just that you just surprised me. Oh! Come in!” He opens the door wider for Zhongli to step inside and ushers him to come in.
“I didn’t know you were stopping by. What brings you here?” He nervously chuckles and leads Zhongli to the living room.
Zhongli sits down on the couch and starts to speak, “I apologize for stopping by unannounced. I would’ve let you know I was coming by but due to some…circumstances… I couldn’t.”
Childe frowned at what Zhongli said. “Circumstances” How he regrets blocking Zhongli now. He shouldn’t have done it in the first place it was an impulsive decision and before he could even process his decision it was already too late.
To not have to face Zhongli just yet he grabs the blanket he was using just a few minutes prior and starts to fold it. “Is that why you came by? To talk to me about what landed you in those ‘circumstances’ or is it something else?”
“Well, that’s part of the reason why I stopped by. I would like to know how I landed in these circumstances since I believe I hadn’t done anything to upset you.” He explained.
“That’s an easy question to answer but I’m confused about why I have to tell you it since you should’ve already put the pieces together.” Narrowed eyes look up at Zhongli, the answer is obvious, but sweet old Zhongli is quite the oblivious guy.
“If it’s so easy to answer why won’t you tell me it? I do have a vague answer but I cannot be sure if I’m correct or not. I’d rather hear your answer before you hear mine.” Zhongli folded his arms across his chest, his gaze was hard.
Childe looked away and sighed before saying, “Zhongli. I like you.”
“I like you too, Childe.”
“No Zhongli! I like you. Like as in I don’t want to be your friend. I want to be your lover. I felt as if I was being obvious about my feelings, but I was wrong. You could never catch a hint and it infuriated me just as much as it gave me less hope for anything else.”
Zhongli opened his mouth to say something in return but Childe cut him off.
“When I confessed to you how I felt and you didn’t answer my message, I had gotten the hint. You aren’t interested in me like how I wish you were. I figured it would be best if we just stopped talking, so I blocked you. I was going to start moving on and forgetting you but here you are now! Asking what you did wrong and how you can fix it but you can’t. You don’t love me and that’s okay.” He finished saying, breathless.
There was another moment of silence between the two. It was an agonizing moment for Childe. He just confessed to his best friend and officially ruined any possible rekindling of their friendship.
“Look Zhongli, you can leave and never talk to me again. It’s fine-“ He was saying before he got cut off by the brunette.
“Who said I didn’t love you back?” He said. His voice was firm but smooth like he was trying to prove a point.
“You don’t have to lie to me. I know you don’t feel the same way. It’s no use.” Childe replied with a monotone voice. He was still fiddling with the blanket to avoid looking at Zhongli. How cruel of Zhongli to play with his feelings like that.
“I’m not lying. Childe I love you. I’m not lying to you. I truly do love you. I have for the longest time. If I’m being honest, I thought we were in a relationship for a couple of months now. Now that I look back at it, I feel dumb that I assumed without confirming anything with you.” Zhongli got up from his spot on the couch and walked to where Childe was. His hand reached up to Childe's chin and slowly turned his head to face him.
“I love you, Childe.”
That was all he needed to surge forward and kiss Zhongli.
Zhongli was so startled by his sudden action that he stumbled a few steps back, but he quickly recovered. Kissing Zhongli was better than how he imagined it.
Zhongli kissed with such a tenderness that made him weak. He could lose himself in the warmth of Zhongli. He could stay like this for an eternity and not once would the thought of boredom cross his mind.
It was peaceful. It was sweet. In that moment it felt as if time stilled just for them. Just so they could both enjoy the moment and cherish it together.
It was bubbly. It was giddy. They kept giggling in between kisses and looking into each other's eyes. He felt like a hopeless romantic in a movie that finally got their long-awaited first kiss.
When they pulled away, their foreheads touching and they dazedly looked into each other eyes.
Childe let out a laugh before saying, “We really are idiots.”
“Maybe but that’s okay with me. If we both weren’t idiots we wouldn’t be here right now.” He smiled and gave him a peck on his cheek.
“So…what are we now?” He asked with an awkward smile.
“I’d like you to be my boyfriend, If you’d let me of course.”
“Of course, I’d let you. I’ve waited long enough for this moment.”
