Some people lived for the adventure, for that adrenaline rush, for that insatiable high that they couldn’t help but crave. Some people were hungry for just a little bit of danger, feeling the adrenaline pump fear and passion through their veins.
Poe used to be just like that, waking up at the crack of dawn to see if there was another new mission for him to go on, shooting off into the stars and not returning until the sun was starting to set.
But now, with the heat of Finn’s body snuggled up close to him, and the quiet murmurs coming from his mouth as he pulled Poe closer, still lost in the world of dreams, Poe couldn’t ever imagine leaving.
The first streak of sunlight entered the room, making his eyes sting a little as he simply continued to stare at the younger man.
Their limbs were so entangled in this sweaty mess, that it was impossible to tell where Poe ended, and Finn began… and Poe didn’t mind that in the slightest.
It wasn’t long before Finn’s own Stormtrooper training kicked into action, and his body clock spurred him into waking up, eyes fluttering open. A sleepy smile spread across his face when he saw Poe staring at him.
“Morning.” He whispered gently, one hand reaching out to softly cradle Poe’s face.
“Morning.” Poe leant forwards, pressing their lips together. It started slow and doting; then growing more playful and heated.
How did he ever survive without this in his life?
Pulling away, he pressed a kiss to Finn’s shoulder, feeling those muscles flex just a little as he pulled the duvet over them a little bit more. “Love you.”
“I love you too.”
Poe jumped a little bit at the sudden words, pulling back a little to see the amused look on Finn’s face
“What are you doing up so early?” Finn then murmured, face softening as the desire to fall back asleep still lingered in the back of his groggy, post-awake brain.
“Nothing, just…admiring, I suppose.” Poe whispered, still studying every inch of his lover’s face.
“Admiring what? My ‘I’ve just woken up’ face?” Finn chuckled. His eyes were still closed, clearly still trying to squeeze in some rest before the day began.
So used to his time as a Stormtrooper, it was nice to see Finn this relaxed.
Silent for a while, Finn peeked an eye open to make sure that Poe hadn’t fallen asleep too, but the other man was still lying there, resting his head against his arm as he stared at Finn, with nothing but love and adoration in his eyes.
“Poe?”
“Don’t mind me…” Poe beamed cheekily, “… Just admiring your handsome face.”
Finn rolled his eyes, “Don’t flatter me.”
“You deserve it though.” Poe murmured, “You deserve all the praise in the world.”
Finn groaned, “Rey says that you’re very… cheesy with what you say.”
“Rey doesn’t want to admit that she likes lines like that, and that she tries to use them on Pava.”
Finn chuckled, unable to help himself from admiring Poe’s own face. The light stubble that decorated his jaw, that always tickled against his own face when they kissed. His hair was always messy and unkempt because of the pilot’s helmet. Having just woken up, the mess of bed hair looked even worse, but in the light of the morning that tentatively peeked through their curtains, he looked just as gorgeous as he always did.
Who could resist smiling at the sight?
Who could resist smiling at the knowledge that they would get to experience this for years to come.
Poe’s eyes visibly softened at the smile, the love in them making Finn feel like he’d just been shot in the heart, with how quickly it robbed him of his breathing.
He loved him.
And Poe loved him back.
As if to prove Finn’s theory correct, Poe let out a loud yawn and shuffled himself closer. He burrowed his face as far into Finn’s chest as best he could, mumbling out a tired “I love you so much.”
Finn couldn’t help but smile, lifting a hand to run through Poe’s dark locks, closing his eyes again.
"I love you too."
Who cares if they’re a little late.
