The end of the night had gone something like:
“So… yeah?” Buck asked, blushing furiously and holding both of Eddie’s hands as he lingered near the front door.
“Yeah. Definitely,” Eddie answered, flushing a somehow darker shade of red than Buck.
And, okay, Eddie knows that’s not exactly a conversation, but it’s as good as! So he and Buck are… something. But it’s nearly twenty-four hours later, and they still haven’t kissed.
Five times Buck doesn't kiss Eddie under the mistletoe, and one time he does.

“That right there? Pure force. You could, like…hold someone down without any trouble.”
It slipped out before he could think too hard about it, and immediately he felt the air shift. Buck regretted saying these words out loud to a degree. It was one thing to think like this about your best friend and enjoy looking at him during a workout, but saying these words out loud to said best friend’s face? A totally different thing. Where was the rewind button when you needed it?
Eddie didn’t move, didn’t even flinch. He just stared at Buck, his expression unreadable.
Buck laughed, trying his hardest to chase away the moment. “I mean, not that you’d…uh…hold me down or anything.” His cheeks started to burn. God, he sounded absolutely ridiculous.
Eddie’s mouth curved, slow and deliberately, into something that wasn’t quite a smile. “You sound awfully sure of yourself.”

He snaps his mouth shut, his entire body flushing with heat. Eddie looks at him for a very, very long second. “You.”
Through the sudden panic, Buck’s mouth goes on autopilot, “No sex, just a few dates, we’ll have an amicable break up. I already know and love Christopher. And anyway, I’m a guy. So, no need to worry about you catching feelings either.”

Eddie thought for a long moment. Too long, maybe. Then he shrugged, “Honestly, Buck? I have no idea.”
Buck’s brows pinched up. “What do you mean? When have you felt the most loved?”
“Don’t make a big thing of this, Buck. Promise?”
Buck made a show of crossing his heart, brows still raised curiously.
“I’m not sure I’ve ever… really felt loved in a relationship? I’m not convinced that I know what makes me feel loved…”

After finding out that Eddie doesn't know what his love language is, Buck sets about finding out for him. He begins a five week experiment, one for each love language, to figure out which will make Eddie feel the most loved.

Summary
Missing Chris is less of an emotion these days and more of a physical entity. He’s sure everyone can see that he’s slowly hollowing himself out, that he can’t do much of anything else.
But when Jee laughs at him trying to get his tongue to touch his nose, and Mara loops one of her arms through his to keep him from tossing the rest of his cup in the garbage, Eddie feels solid again.
Maybe he likes yellow birthday cake ice cream after all.
(or, gerrard messes with the team's schedules and eddie 'i just drove my son to flee the state' diaz is the only option to watch mara and jee-yun after school on tuesdays, which, shouldn't be a problem at all, right?)
