Work Text:
Prompt: “I Can’t Say I’m Sorry.”
“Marinette?”
She hummed in response, not really paying attention.
“Marinette.”
She huffed and glanced up at the voice, eyes falling on her girlfriend. Rachel grinned once she caught her attention.
“Yes?”
“Take a break for a bit.”
It wasn’t a question. Marinette was aware of that. Raven was a lot like Damian in the way of mannerisms she had found. Both were blunt, both could be violent, both had a very deliberate way of communication that made everything expressly clear to the listener. Most of the time.
“In a bit.”
And yet, Marinette chose to ignore this, wanting to continue with her work.
She heard a hum behind her and steeled herself for whatever may come from her deliberate ignorance, turning back to her work quickly and busying her hands with fabrics, careful not to prick herself on the many needles peeking out that were temporarily holding things together so she could get a sense of what things would look like before she sewed them all together.
Instead, all she heard was fading footsteps. The black haired girl peaked up in confusion, eyes scanning the room but finding that her pretty, stubborn as hell magical girlfriend was actually gone. She felt guilt climb up her throat, holding her tongue still so if she dared swallow, she feared she would gulp down that as well.
Raven never went without some sort of fight.
Fight may seem like a strong word for this particular thing, but the purple eyed girl was keen on winning. Insisting in a way that would eventually made her cave every time. She was a hard person to resist and when she had something in her mind, she’d make it happen.
Marinette turned back to her work, picking up more fabrics and pinning them together. She kept this up for a bit longer, stepping back and looking at her work but something just felt off about it now.
She couldn’t put her finger on exactly what it was though.
She sighed. Her chest felt tight and she cleared her throat. She took another look at her dress; commissioned by Richard actually for Tim. Jason and Dick insisted that it be a hilarious prank, receiving a dress that would be “perfect” for him. Marinette knew though that Tim wouldn’t find it so much as funny as he would heartwarming. She had to bite her tongue from laughing when they’d come to her. Tim wasn’t against wearing dresses, he was all for breaking the gender norms.
And he always slayed.
Marinette rolled her eyes at that thought and parted from her work. She knew why it didn’t feel right now.
She wandered to the kitchen where she found her partner making tea calmly. She came up behind her and wrapped her arms around her waist, resting her head on her back.
“I’m sorry.”
She swore she could feel the other girls grin at her mumbled apology, “It’s alright. Tea?”
Raven was already making tea, two cups out and filled already just being stirred. She knew she would come, the little sneak. She mumbled her approval none the less with no other comment.
Raven turned in her arms when she was done, leaving the steaming beverage on the counter, wrapping her arms around the shorter woman, resting her chin atop Marinette’s head.
“You play dirty.”
“Can’t say I'm sorry.”
This time Marinette could feel the change of expression on top of her head. She jabbed the taller woman's side in rebuttal.
“Love you anyway.”
“Love you too.”
