Chapter Text
"It's been a long day," You said, sighing, holding your backpack, setting it down on the receptionist counter. You just got back from the college a few streets down, and it was the evening.
Living in the dorms sucked, you couldn’t actually get work done with a roommate or even living in that place, distractions almost everyday, and nobody wants to be finishing work at 10pm, barely finishing at 12. Only other available place was an apartment. Had to pay rent somehow, so you were being '𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘥' in a way, after having this job for a few weeks already.
Of course, it was nice to have someone show you the reins of this place, since it was so large. Even if you could, this place was work, but a break after classes, and it's nice to have someone who enjoys working and occasionally, you'd help out.
There was one thing, painting and drawing, and art all around, was your favorite thing. Every now and then, if you'd get a chance to, you'd paint or sketch Sacagawea, and she was always pleased with the portraits you made. You made a few of Jed and Oct, and found yourself even doing small sketches and doodles of them in class.
"It sure has. Only 5 minutes till sundown," The man behind you said, checking his watch, and interrupting your train of thought. It was Larry, the guy who you gave you much education about this line of work. Of course, he had a strong bond with these guys, all the exhibits and Teddy.
"Are we throwing a party today?" You say, looking at the streamers hanging from the second floor balcony.
"Oh! Yeah, forgot to tell you. Today's Ahk's birthday, guess we'd all celebrate him turning..." He ponders in confusion, not really knowing how old he is.
"Maybe his 5,000th birthday?" You reply, a weak smile, also a little unsure.
Ahkmenrah, the teenage pharoah.
"𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘐 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘨𝘦𝘵?" You thought. Ever since they first talked about his birthday and about him in general, y/n wrote it down and had planned a little gift out. They were inseparable, best friends, and close enough to the same age.
That was one factor, the two were always hanging around each other, and Ahk, himself, knew it was only a matter of time before he really liked her, which ended up happening. He looked at her in a way of love, and would always find ways to compliment her hair, her smile, telling her he "𝘸𝘪𝘴𝘩𝘦𝘴 𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘴𝘦𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘧𝘶𝘭 𝘴𝘶𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦'𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘶𝘱𝘰𝘯 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘮𝘰𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, 𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘴 𝘭𝘶𝘤𝘬𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 𝘢 𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘴𝘦."
"𝘠/𝘯, 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘥𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵," 𝘚𝘩𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘴𝘢𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵.
"We'd have to ask, if anything. Although, the tablet restores his youth, so he appears like, 18-19, but you know, he can't age.. but that doesn't change the fact he has a birthday, you know? Only he knows how old he is, but we'll ask." Larry replies, sounding sure of himself, and interrupting your thought once again.
Guess 5 minutes wasn't too long when you're thinking about different things, or trying to figure them out.
Rexy turns around to face the two of them, looking like a very happy dog, then leaves for another part of the museum as Teddy walks over to them.
"Good day, Lawrence! Seems we're having a party?" He says, smiling.
"Yep, could you go get the birthday boy?" Larry says in agreement, with finger guns, as you go over to the hall of miniatures, racing a bit to go get Jed and Oct, but you see them driving down the hall with their miniature car.
They stop at a halt next to your shoes, as you lean down to look at them. Replacing the usual bone tied in the back of the car, a peppermint candy is tied.
"Hey guys, I was just coming to get you." You say, smiling.
"I figured we'd take the car today, but thank you, m'lady." Oct replies, looking through the car glass. "May I tell her about the card?"
"Go ahead, but we're in a rush!" The cowboy says, dressed in his best clothes, the Roman general as well.
"We have a card that Larry had us all sign, I don't know if you did or not–" Oct says, before being interrupted.
"Can you get it? It should be somewhere in the drawers next to the computer, thank you!" Jed says quickly, as he rushes off, driving the car.
Sighing, you go grab it as you see everyone patiently waiting for Ahk in the front, signing a quick message and putting it in the envelope.
You see him walking with Teddy and Sacagawea, so does everyone else. You all huddle to the nearest wall so they can't see them.
Once they arrive to the front, Dexter along with Atilla, are on the balcony of the second floor, then drop the two streamers, and the confetti, and everyone says, "Surprise!!"
The young pharoah beams, as he says, "Oh, you all remembered!"
You handed him the card, as everyone stood around eagerly for him to open it and give thanks.
"Oh, you all are so kind," He says, reading it.
"You're welcome!" Oct and Jed say, with a wave to him from below.
So, the party commences, but moreover the rest of the Friday-night museum party and you and Ahk are sitting together as he asks you questions about the classes you've been taking.
Talking for a while, you soon realize about his gift, something you wanted to give to him after all the commotion.
"Oh, um, I totally forgot about this! I made you a little something.." You say, after you answer his last asked question, now rummaging through to get your backpack.
"Do share, I'm sure it's fantastic," He says, beaming with a soft smile.
The past few days, you've been working on his portrait, which was your favorite because it was so detailed and beautiful, you couldn't wait to give it to him. Wrapped neatly in your backpack, in a little gift bag, you handed it to him.
"Packaged 𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 nicely too!" He says, opening it, and his face has a look of amazement, as he glances back up to you. "Wow, y/n, you've.. I don't ever recall hearing that you're a painter–" He says, sitting down in the swivel chair, his head tiredly on his arms, as he looks at her.
"I thought I did, I figured you knew already.." You sheepishly laugh, smiling lightly.
"No, I don't ever recall such a thing. I figured you were always just studying, carrying around that little notebook of yours."
"Hm? Oh, that. Yeah, no, I usually do little sketches and stuff. I've got with me now if you wanna see–"
"Of course, may I?" He says, leaning up, as you hand him the sketchbook.
