Work Text:

Working for Ms. Glamour didn’t allow for many days off. When she did get the rare day to herself, Daisy usually used it to run errands and get her personal issues taken care of. For this particular day off she planned to call some family, sit down in a corner with a good book, and pay her bills for the month. That was part of the reason why it was so odd for her to be standing outside of the McDuck Manor looking at the large and imposing front door. The bigger part that made it strange was the fact that she got the invitation in the first place. Daisy Duck may have just made the ‘It’ list of Ms. Glamour’s, but that didn’t mean she would have fashion design companies banging down her door overnight. Besides despite the numerous and odd enterprises Scrooge McDuck had his hands dipped into, Daisy didn’t see fashion getting on that list anytime soon. Honestly Daisy couldn’t fathom a single reason that the richest duck in the world would request her presence in his home.

Well, that wasn’t entirely true. There was one thing that came to mind after she reviewed the invitation, her boss Ms. Emma Glamour. Daisy doubted that Scrooge had interest in Glamour specifically, after all she was a recluse that only traveled around looking for the next ‘It’ thing and posting the latest trends once a year at a big party. Daisy usually spent her time coordinating all of Ms. Glamour’s flights and itineraries. However, Ms. Glamour was also the mother of Mark Beaks. Mark had foolishly challenged Scrooge McDuck and his scientist Gyro Gearloose a handful of times now. Maybe Scrooge had decided he was done fooling around and it was time to find Mark’s weaknesses, so he was going after Glamour. Daisy soon dismissed the idea, finding it to be as farfetched and ridiculous as Scrooge wanting to sponsor designers. Scrooge was well known for his stinginess and ruthless nature, but he wouldn’t target family members to get after an opponent. After all, he was becoming quite well known for how important he saw his own family and wouldn’t want to put a target on their backs.

Daisy had determined that since she didn’t know why she was being summoned, she didn’t exactly have anything to lose and maybe something potential to gain. So here Daisy was, standing in front of the door wearing her best dress and wondering just what Scrooge could possibly want from her. They must have known she was already there, after all someone had to open the gate for her to come on the property. After a few moments without anyone coming Daisy reached out and knocked. She hardly pulled her hand back fully before the door was being tugged open. Daisy frowned a little at that, ready to snap at the person for clearly making her wait when the words died in her throat.
Daisy felt like she must be seeing things. There was no possible way a ghost was currently holding the door for her! Ghosts weren’t real, they were stories. Like gods and magic, none of it was real! Yet she couldn’t find any other words to explain the see-through man standing in front of her. “I…I am Daisy Duck.” she forced out. The man looked at her for a moment before making a small snorting noise.

“Yes, I know. Please come in.” he moved back and opened the door wider. Slowly she entered the mansion. “Mr. Scrooge and Ms. Beakly will be down momentarily.” he said before closing the door. The butler glanced at her a moment before sticking his nose up, as if Daisy had been something scraped on the bottom of his shoe before floating off and going through a door. Daisy felt her alarm melt away to a sting of annoyance. He acted as if Daisy’s very existence offended him. She wondered if this was going to set the tone for her visit.

“So, you actually came!” a young girl’s voice rang out. Daisy looked around, not seeing anyone before glancing down at the ground. She jumped in surprise, not sure how the young girl got so close to her without her awareness. The girl’s angry scowl melted into a joyful smile and Daisy almost thought she imagined it. “Hi! I’m Webby!” she said. Daisy was dumbfounded. Something about the girl seemed familiar, like Daisy had seen her before but she couldn’t quite place it. She looked far too young to be Scrooge’s daughter, maybe a granddaughter or a great niece.

“Nice to meet you Webby. I’m Daisy.” she said. Webby closed her eyes, making her smile wider before she suddenly snapped back to the terrifying expression. Daisy recoiled a little in surprise.

“What are your intentions? Are you a threat?” the girl growled. Daisy didn’t know how to answer that question. What did this girl mean by asking if she was a threat? A threat to who? Scrooge McDuck? Daisy wasn’t even sure she could leave a dent in the world Scrooge built let alone be any kind of threat to his empire.

“Now, now lass. Give her a moment to get her barring’s.” That Scottish voice could only belong to Scrooge McDuck and when Daisy looked up at the steps she saw it was indeed him. He stood with a massive woman clad in purple. Daisy assumed that was Beakly, but who was she in this household? Scrooge’s bodyguard? She certainly seemed like a bodyguard, especially since she was currently glaring at Daisy. “I apologize for not meetin’ you at the door meself, but I had a few things to finish up. Duckworth should have the dinning room all set up for lunch by now.” Scrooge added. Daisy was about to ask who Duckworth was when the ghost stuck his head through the wall again.

“Lunch is served Sir. Della is already seated.” The ghost then vanished back into the wall and Daisy decided that at this point she may as well accept whatever nonsense this was. Scrooge gestured for Daisy to go ahead and Webby smiled up at her before skipping off toward what Daisy assumed was the dining room. Had it not been for the odd display a few moments ago, Daisy would have assumed she was just an innocent adorable girl. The two headed into the dining room to see a woman was already inside, standing by the table. She wore clothes that made Daisy believe she was some sort of a pilot, and she had a metal leg. Daisy wondered if she had a bad accident. The table itself was set rather nicely. It looked almost like she was there for a pleasant visit or a business deal.

“Well sit-down lass.” Scrooge said as he sat at the head of the table. Della, Webby, and Beakly did so as well and Daisy hesitated for a moment longer before obeying. Outside of Scrooge’s pleasant tone she could tell that the others did not like her at all, and that was unnerving. Webby’s words of asking if she was a threat tickled the back of her mind. What could she have possibly done to make them believe that?!

“Mr. McDuck should I be wondering why I’m here?” Daisy asked. Scrooge gave her a serious look while Beakly, Della, and Webby actually looked offended.

“I think you know lass.” Scrooge said. The pleasant smile he initially gave her was gone and Scrooge actually looked a little dangerous. Daisy wondered if her earlier thoughts about Scrooge were true, that he was after Ms. Glamour. If that was true then Daisy felt her opinion of the big Scrooge McDuck sink.

“Ask whatever you want, but I won’t tell you anything about my boss.” Daisy snapped. Daisy wouldn’t say she loved Ms. Glamour. The woman was hard to work for, rude and too high expectations. However, she did look after Daisy, had put her on her ‘It’ list and Daisy was loyal to her core. Scrooge and the women all looked confused by the statement, like they hadn’t even considered that.

“Yer boss? Who’s that?” Scrooge asked. He glanced at Beakly who crossed her arms.

“I believe she works for Ms. Emma Glamour.” The woman said, a thick British accent. Bodyguard seemed much more likely. If the woman knew who her boss was, why was she surprised that Daisy mentioned her?

“Should I know her?” Scrooge asked. Beakly shook her head.

“I think the boys were talking about her the other day Uncle Scrooge. Something about a list or something.” Della said. Uncle Scrooge? So this woman Della was his niece. Daisy wondered if the girl was her daughter. Della also mentioned ‘boys’. She must have sons too. Just how big was Scrooge’s family? Daisy knew they existed but she didn’t know how many there were or how they were related.

“The ‘It List’. It’s the list of the most popular trends for the year!” Webby said. Scrooge looked disgusted by that.

“What would I want with that?” he asked, looking at Daisy. That was a strange question. There were so many people who tried to crash Glamour’s party in order to get on the list. In fact, that adorable Donald had also attempted the same. It was a shame Ms. Glamour didn’t think he was worthy of the list, he had such a beautiful voice.

“This isn’t about her son Mark Beaks?” Daisy asked, almost challenging. Scrooge again looked at Beakly.

“He’s the technology businessman who raced a robotic car against Launchpad.” The woman said. Scrooge shook his head after a moment.

“I don’t remember him. Mus’ not be important.” Scrooge mumbled. Daisy felt her confusion only rising at that.

“Wait, so if this isn’t about Ms. Glamour or Mark Beaks, then what is this about?” she asked.

“This is about seeing how much of a threat you are to my family!” Della said, slamming a hand on the table’s surface as she stood up. Daisy was dumbfounded.

“You can’t possibly think I’m a threat to your family…” Daisy started but from the serious looks they were all giving her she realized they were very serious. How could she possibly be a threat to them?

“What are your intentions toward my brother?” Della asked. So Scrooge also had a nephew? Then the words Della said sank in. They thought Daisy was moving in on Scrooge’s nephew? That didn’t make any sense to Daisy. She hadn’t even known Scrooge had a nephew, let alone be making any advances toward him! And how did they see that as a threat toward Scrooge? Unless! Daisy felt a wave of fury sweep through her. She leaped to her feet, throwing back her chair with such force that it overturned and fell to the ground. The McDuck’s clearly weren’t expecting such a move since Della pulled back a step.

“Excuse me? You think I’m some gold digger after your nephew’s money?!” she hissed, seeing the family give her stunned looks. Even Duckworth poked his head in. “Well, I have news for you, I didn’t even know you had a nephew let alone have any intentions toward him!” Daisy snapped at them. The only person she may have any interest in right now anyway was Donald, that kind father of two who snuck into the party just to get his college friends on the stage. Daisy had been captivated by his protectiveness to his two boys and how he stood up to Glamour for her despite not even knowing her. Comparing him to someone like Scrooge’s nephew, who would only have had to ask to be included in the party to get in was almost laughable. The family were stunned for another moment before Della gave her an apologetic look, slowly lowering herself back into her chair.

“Oh, I’m sorry. See my son’s…” she started but the door to the dinning room burst open. Three young boys and a large man dressed as a pilot all dashed in. Daisy briefly wondered if the two pilots were married. As she looked at the boys though, she realized they looked familiar. At the very least two of them were boys she could swear she had seen before. The one in the green sweater and the one in the blue shirt were the ones at the ‘It’ Party. The boy with the red shirt and hat was new but it was obvious he was the other two’s brother. They were Donald’s kids! That was where she saw the girl too!

“Mom! It didn’t work!” the one in red yelled.

“Uncle Donald got suspicious.” The one in blue yelled.

“Sorry Mr. McDee, sorry Ms. Dee, I couldn’t stall him anymore.” The pilot said. Daisy was even more confused. So, this was about Donald Duck?! Donald was the nephew of Scrooge McDuck?! That didn’t make any sense. And the boys just called Della mom, but she was Donald’s sister.

“Uncle Donald should be here any moment.” The one in green yelled.

“Donald Duck is you’re nephew?” Daisy asked. Immediately everyone looked at her.

“I thought you said you had no interest in my nephew.” Scrooge said, a dangerous tone creeping into his voice. Daisy realized that if she didn’t explain this well, she may make a very powerful enemy.

“I think there’s been a misunderstanding. Yes, I know Donald Duck, but I had no idea he was related to you.” Daisy explained. Daisy couldn’t figure out what the looks were, but she figured it was better than anger or suspicion. The boy in green approached her before giving her a worried look.

“Daisy Duck, do you like my Uncle?” he asked. It was rather blunt of a question, but seeing as how he was genuinely asking instead of assuming like everyone else here, she figured she owed him a polite and honest answer. Daisy knelt down in front of the boy.

“I don’t know, I hardly know him. But I would like to know him.” she said. The boy looked thoughtful for a moment before nodding.

“Just don’t hurt him okay? Uncle Donald has been hurt enough.” The boy said. Daisy looked up at the family member’s faces and realized that yes, she was indeed a threat to this family! This wasn’t about being a threat to Scrooge. It was being a threat to Donald. More specifically it was about hurting Donald’s feelings. Daisy almost laughed, all the anger at being accused of a gold digger forgotten. This family loved Donald so much that they wanted to see exactly what kind of person caught Donald’s eye before a relationship started to ensure he would be safe.

“Hey! What’s the big….Daisy!?” Donald came storming in and froze in shock at seeing Daisy in the mansion. The entire family looked alarmed and Daisy realized that Donald wasn’t supposed to know. That’s what the boys and the male pilot had been so upset about. They were supposed to keep Donald busy while the girls and the family head confronted her.

“Hello Donald.” She said. Donald literally shook off the shock before smiling at her.

“That’s a pretty dress Daisy. Did you design that one too?” he asked. Daisy was surprised. No one else mentioned the dress.

“Yes. Thank you Donald.” She said. Donald then looked behind her at the others.

“What is going on?” he asked.

“Uh, well…” Scrooge started and even Daisy could see they were trying to come up with a believable story.

“Well you’re boys told me where I might find you and I came out to see if you were…maybe interested in going out again.” Daisy said. Donald gaped, looking between her and the boys.

“Really?” he asked.

“Yeah Uncle Donald. I mean you dive bombed Falcon Graves with her and yelled at Ms. Glamour together. You guys seem like quite a pair.” The one in green said smoothly. Daisy was almost afraid of how easily the boy lied. He’d be one to watch out for, but she had the feeling that he would always protect his family.

“You what?” Scrooge asked.

“Oh yeah, you should have seen it Uncle Scrooge! Uncle Donald burst out of the air duck yelling ‘Yippee Ki-yay Mr. Falcon’ and he punched Falcon Graves in the face!” the one in blue said, punching the air in his excitement. Daisy could see how pleased Donald was by the statement.

“Nice!” Della said, coming over and slapping Donald on the back.

“We were all just meeting this lovely lass when you came in.” Scrooge added, walking over to join them. Donald gave them all a suspicious look but then nodded.

“I’d love to go out with you Daisy.” He said. The boys all three cheered and Webby made a high pitched squeak. Beakly offered them a small smile and Della and Scrooge both gave her an apologetic look. Daisy wondered just how strange dating Donald would be. After all she hadn’t even started dating him and she had to deal with an overprotective family and a ghost butler apparently. Seeing the bright smile on Donald’s face though, she was willing to try.
