Launchpad was asked to stay home from the adventure at Scrooge's request, causing him to question his role in the McDuck family. With his family away, the dangerous sky pirate, Don Karnage, strikes and kidnaps Dewey, ready to seek his revenge on the kid who upstaged him. The only person Dewey could get in contact was Launchpad. Knowing that his best friend and Scrooge's nephew is in danger, he is determined to not only save Dewey from certain death, but also prove his place in this family.

I am the pole in the winter that sticks to the tongue of crime! I am Darkwing Duck!” He stuck a pose as the smoke cleared, holding his arms high in the air like he was scaring off a bear.
The broad-shouldered man swayed drunkenly, but the air didn’t smell like any spirit Darkwing could recall. Headphones. This guy had headphones in. How he had missed them before, Darkwing didn’t know. As he continued watching the man, walking backwards so as to not bump into him, he watched his movements more carefully. He was dancing, eyes closed, swaying to some beat only he could hear. Darkwing chewed on his cheek in a poor attempt to swallow the embarrassment throbbing in his face and neck.”
