The secondary sex categories or dynamics are Alpha, Beta, Omega, Beta-Alphas or Zetas, and Beta-Omegas or Thetas. A/N: I picked those particular Greek letters because I wanted all the Beta mixed dynamics to rhythm with Beta.
Alpha - instinctual protectors but will only throw hands if provoked or a strange person gets too close to their mate or pack. Most fertile dynamic when impregnating someone. They only gain Alpha voice when they mate or have several packmates as it only works on closely bonded people or to specifically push dangerous people away.
Female Alphas have Bigenitalism, both sets of primary sex reproductive organs, and can therefore impregnate others and get pregnant, but they don't ovulate very frequently and could have complications as they typically have narrower hips. Female Alphas can only get pregnant with one pup at a time.
Beta - the balancers, stable workers and main providers. They have the most sensitive noses in order to sense the shifting moods and pheromone/hormone levels in those around them. They can mildly to moderately influence the moods of others, even strangers, depending on their own control of their scent/pheromones. Typically, the more people the harder it is to get everyone on the same page. When bonded they have even more influence over their mate and/or packmates.
Betas can absorb pheromones/hormones which allows them to: help to hold off a rut/heat cycle for a few hours; fully stop a cycle that is just starting or end one early; when bonded, some Betas can absorb enough to stop a cycle at any stage.
Absorbing has a rebound effect and will push them into a corresponding but shorter rut or heat cycle (depending on what was absorbed) of their own some time later.
Sexually satisfied Beta pheromones can boost the fertility of everyone in the room during rut/heat cycles so people have to be careful with contraceptives.
They're the only dynamic that can forcibly nullify the chemical connections that create bonds.
They have elite level stamina as looking after everyone else/being left to do all the work while people are cycling is tiring.
They're normally only as fertile as a regular human would be.
Omega - instinctual nurturers, they keep the bonds between everyone in the pack healthy and flourishing. They also have a tendency towards childcare, raising pets or animals of some kind or sometimes even plants or all of these at once! Most fertile dynamic when being impregnated. They gain Omega Voice after presenting. Omega Voice is most powerful in situations where an Omega feels that they are in danger of some kind as they would most likely be able to talk their way out of it, however it must be genuine danger and not a threat that is a means to get someone to use their ability. Omega Voice is also useful for calming down unruly pups or overwhelmed packmates, blood related or pack bonded members of a household, community or compound.
Both Male and Female Omegas lactate.
Male Omegas also have Bigenitalism, but their sperm count is low, even in heat, so impregnating someone else takes work unless they have an outside boost in their fertility.
Zetas (Beta-Alphas) - the midpoint between Alphas and Betas. They have the second most sensitive noses after Betas along with Thetas. They have a mild to moderate ability to influence the mood of their packmates, pups and mate(s), but no ability to influence strangers. Zetas can influence the fertility of others in cycle at will with practice just by using their pheromones/hormones. They can also extend someone’s heat cycle in the same way.
Zetas produce less sperm than Alphas, but more than Betas. This is true even in rut cycles.
Female Zetas have Bigenitalism and can impregnate others and get pregnant. Zetas ovulate more frequently than Female Alphas and their hips are typically more in line with Female Beta’s, so they are more likely than Alphas to successfully carry a pregnancy. However, they still typically only get pregnant with one pup at a time.
Thetas (Beta-Omegas) - the midpoint between Omegas and Betas. They have a mild to moderate ability to influence the mood of their packmates, pups and mate(s), but no ability to influence strangers. Thetas can influence the fertility of others in cycle at will, with practice, just by using their pheromones/hormones. They can also extend someone’s rut cycle in the same way. Female Thetas can only have one pup at a time while Omegas can have anywhere from one to several multiples in one pregnancy. At most a Female Theta might have fraternal twins, but that would be the only chance for multiples.
Male Thetas have partial Bigenitalism as they do not have a vulva, but they do have everything else from sets of reproductive organs. Because of this they typically give birth via Cesarean Section as opposed to through the canal. They can give birth through the anus if necessary, but it’s a physically demanding and difficult process because their hips are usually not as wide as their Omega Male and Female peers so the body has to compensate. Male Thetas can also only have one pup at a time as they already carry small, twins or more wouldn’t be able to make it to a healthy weight before birth to thrive.
Both Male and Female Thetas lactate and are the biggest producers of all of the dynamics. This helps Male Theta’s smaller newborns gain weight more quickly and they’re usually able to help others in their pack as well.
A New Word
Yes, there is a new word in here that I made up: Bigenitalism. It is an attempt to come up with a term that can be used in fictional contexts to describe people/characters that have both the male and female set of reproductive organs. Anything in between having the full set of both would be partial Bigenitalism. I’m not Intersex, so I won’t go into explaining why it’s inappropriate to use that term to describe people within the Omegaverse, but the information is out there. Hermaphrodite is also inappropriate for different reasons, partial because it has been used as a slur against intersex people. So, there is a need for a new word. And I actually came up with two. Please see the bad etymology below. I hope they will be picked up by the community so we can stop using inappropriate words.
