Work Text:
It had been a long day for everyone at the Hazbin Hotel. Everyone had it rough, but none had it as rough as Charlie. The day had hit her hard, making her crumble by the end of it as it pushed her beyond her limits with one problem after another. It broke her dads heart to watch her out on a brave face, a forced smile till everyone retired for the night and went their separate ways.
When Charlie disappeared it had taken Lucifer a minute to map out her bedroom with the hotel freshly rebuilt and he not being aware of who’s room is who’s. Only exception being Alastors as his was hard to miss.
As he walked down the hallway with dimmed down lights, Lucifer heard muffled cries close by. Quickening his pace he reached Charlie’s and Vaggies room, pausing as the door was cracked open. He peaked inside and was about to go to her side and hoped to comfort his little lady as much as he could, but stopped as he saw Alastor in the room sitting beside Charlie, seemingly comforting her through her tears, their backs facing him.
His heart clenched as Charlie leaned her head against Alastor as she spoke between sobs. Lucifer couldn’t make out their voices and what they were saying as they were too muffled to distinguish Charlie’s woes and Alastors static words of comfort.
Lucifer knew and understood that he hadn’t been around for quite some time, that he wasn’t the best father out there, that he had missed so many important things of her and hadn’t been apart of it for so long, but he couldn’t help but feel hurt and envious that his daughter went to Alastor for comfort and not him. Lucifer acknowledged that he had no right for his jealousy and his hurt, he had been absent and showed his care and desire to be in contact with his daughter poorly.
His calls for favors from her were just an excuse to hear her voice and see what she was up to. He didn’t make them as casual as he desired as he felt that she would be upset with him if he did and hang up the phone. He wouldn’t blame her if she did, but regardless. It was just another excuse for being a coward and feared her rejection.
When he had come to the hotel at last, he had not made it easy for Charlie, having crushed her in a hug that had made her uncomfortable and had clashed with the radio prick immediately on sight. When Lucifer had tried to show her that he could help her with his magic and angelic powers, it didn’t escape him that Charlie had forced a smile through it all and had been stiff as a board. Seeing her smile so freely, so relaxed when Alastor butt in, was so painful. She felt more relaxed and happy with the Radio Demon than with her own father.
Alastor was right, as much as he loathed to say it. He is a dud of a father. Her friends who she called her family are better than he could ever be for her. That’s just a fact that he has to accept, as painful as it was.
Lucifer had caused a major rift in their relationship and had hurt his daughter deeply. He could never forgive himself for causing that hurt and pain, for making her suffer.
Her family that she chose, her girlfriend, her… the demon who was obviously a more of father figure to her than Lucifer could only hope to be, had healed and mended that hurt, had helped her grow stronger and move on without him. As Alastor had said, those who you choose to be your family are more often than not better than the one you’re born into. In this case it was quite clear that that statement was truer than true.
Charlie had moved on with her life, not needing him nor wanting him anymore, and he needed to accept that. Lucifer knew he never would, but he would respect his daughter and love and adore her no matter what, even from afar he would love Charlie till the end of time.
lucifer watched as Charlie flung herself at Alastor, wrapping her arms around him as she sobbed. It would have shocked Lucifer to see Alastor slowly return the embrace and see him running a clawed hand through her hair to soothe Charlie, helping her collect herself and slow her tears.
Silently closing the door, Lucifer walked away.
