Work Text:

Narrator's point of view:

Phoebe was lying in her bed. It had been a very hard day of ghost hunting. She had fallen asleep in the car on the way home to the old fire station and Trevor, like a loving big brother, had carefully carried her to her room and then laid her down in her bed. He hadn't done that in ages. Not since they were children, but this time he had decided to do her this favor. Or, more likely, he was forced into it by his mother's Callie.

It didn't matter why he did it. Phoebe was now lying in her bed, sleeping soundly. Her face was completely relaxed. Her breathing was shallow and calm and she occasionally mumbled a few things in her sleep.

She was dreaming.

What or who could she be dreaming about? You can ask yourself that now.

She dreamed of Melody. Melody, the young teenager who died a terrible death and had to spend an eternity as a ghost who had something important to do and had to figure it out first.

But now Melody was gone. She had helped them defeat the ice demon and then eventually became part of the universe. Phoebe missed her She hadn't known her for long, but there was a certain tension between them from the first second. For the first time, Phoebe felt like someone truly understood her.

Melody understood her.

They both felt less alone when they were together. They felt understood and somehow happy, or at least confident that everything would be okay as long as they were together.

She dreamed of one of her chess dates at the time, if you can even call it a date.

They played chess as usual. Melody sat across from her and grinned widely at her. “I'm about to win again! But don't worry, as you know, I had enough time to practice," Melody said and took her next step. Phoebe just rolled her eyes. "Yes, yes, I know. Now it’s my turn.” Phoebe shifted and smiled slightly.

Melody's grin grew wider. “Checkmate! I won,” she said, lighting one of her cigarettes. She pulled on it and blew the smoke into Phoebe's face, even though she didn't really understand it and it was more like a mist, she coughed. "Do not do that! Nice, you won. What would you like to have as a prize? You know, you have a wish that I will try to fulfill for you.” Phoebe looked at her expectantly.

Melody smiled simply and stood up from her bench. Move over, make room, she said and sat down next to Phoebe. Phoebe could sense her presence, although not in the way she would if Melody were still alive. Or if she were still human.

"A kiss! I want a kiss from you!" Melody said and smiled mischievously.

"But what... How... How... How is that supposed to work? You know we can't kiss. I'm human. I... "I...You know it's not possible, Melody!" Phoebe looked at her sadly and slightly unsure. “Of course it’s possible! I'll show you how it's done. Just imagine how my lips would feel on yours. How warm and soft. Then it'll work, I promise you!" Melody smiled and whispered the last paragraph against Phoebe's lips. Phoebe hadn't noticed that Melody had moved her face closer to her. Melody kissed her. Phoebe's lips touched, although not really . Phoebe only felt a short, cold breath near her lips.

Phoebe groaned briefly in surprise and then tried Melody's suggestion. She closed her eyes and imagined what Melody's lips would feel like. It worked. Phoebe could almost imagine that she had felt how Melody's lips felt. Phoebe broke the kiss and smiled.

"So? Did it work," Melody asked with a grin. Phoebe just nodded and blushed slightly. "It was wonderful, but I have to go now," Phoebe murmured calmly. "See you around," Phoebe waved goodbye, slipped away from Melody and quickly stood up. She smiled at Melody again and then left the park. Melody just grinned and sat there for a moment....

Phoebe woke up with a start. It had all just been a beautiful dream. She sighed sadly and wiped a tear from her cheeks. She missed her... She missed her Melody...

She wished she was with her.

Together with her.

Together with her, part of the universe....
