Work Text:
“I don’t sing, and I don’t relax! This is the way I am, and I like it. I also like a little silence!”
Call me a Debbie Downer, but I like to think that anyone is this irritable when they’re exhausted. Especially if they’ve spent an entire day with her.
The only reason I’m here on this stupid mission is because I knew she’d get herself killed. She’s just lucky I showed up when I did. You think she’d show a little appreciation with some peace and quiet, but no. There she goes again, with that voice.
♫ Hello darkness, my old friend
I’ve come to talk with you again ♫
It was almost as if she’d rehearsed this little number for days with the way every living thing within a ten-foot radius transformed into her personal ensemble.
“Hello.”
Any voice could try to steal my attention, but it was just no use trying to take my eyes off of her. It was her world, and I was just living in it. Her spotlight, and I was backstage.
♫ Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping ♫
If this was her sorry attempt at calling me out on my bitterness, it wasn’t working. The condescending manner in which she sang was the last thing on my mind.
♫ And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains ♫
I hated the way her smug little grin shot right through me. I hated the way the creatures’ neon glow complemented her pink so flawlessly. I hated the way her voice melted like a candle all over my eardrums, creating a perfect cast that I wouldn’t be able to remove for days, no matter how many cotton swabs I use. Her sugary spirit was slowly eating at me from the inside out and she didn’t even know it.
♫ Within the sound
Of silence ♫
It was over as quickly as it started. I had to think fast, throw her off-course.
… Even if it meant resorting to property destruction.
What else was I supposed to do, clap?
“May I?”
