what the cameras don't know

Summary:

The Hermitcraft Charity streams have been going great. Gem and Pearl just finished Bingo, and Gem has something she's been dying to ask Pearl since they made the plans to arrive together.

"Is your stream done?" Gem asked, watching as the recording software finally shut off. There were still a million cameras around, of course, and too many people milling about to be very secretive. But when Pearl nodded, she couldn't help but grin, knowing there was no longer a camera pointed directly at the two.

"I just sent them over to Scar," Pearl explained, unsure if Gem had been paying that much attention to what all she had said. She looked up to her - up for once, because Gem was standing next to her chair while she sat - and saw the mischievous glint in her eye. She furrowed her brows in confusion, about to ask her why she wanted to know so badly, but didn't get another moment to do so.

Gem didn't give her a moment to think more. She was quick, pressing a kiss to Pearl's lips and pulling away before Pearl truly had a moment to register it. While she sat there, dumbfounded, Gem straightened up and spared a glance around.

"Just wondering. Hey, you're in town for the rest of the week, right?"

"Y-yeah, me and Karn were..."

"Cool. Me too." Gem crossed her arms behind her back, glancing around the bustling crowd. She rocked back on her heels and then looked back to Pearl, her eyes still sparkling in the mischievous way that made Pearl's heart skip a beat. "You wanna hang out while we're here? It might be nice to have some fun together."

Fun. The way Gem said it, it made Pearl's chest squeeze. She opened her mouth to speak, then closed it again. She felt like a fish as her mouth opened and closed a few more times, words unable to come out. She was still reeling from the kiss, and here Gem was, offering something that sounded... Very much not like the type of fun she had expected.

It drew a giggle from Gem, who leaned forward. For a moment, Pearl was almost expecting another kiss from her, but instead found herself staring into Gem's eyes, and wondered if they'd always been that lovely.

"You should bring Karn too. I bet we can have a lot of fun together."

Oh. Oh, Gem really meant...

"What do you say, Pearl?"

"I... I'd like that," Pearl managed to whisper, once she finally found her voice. Gem giggled again, an adorable sound, and plopped herself down in her chair next to Pearl. She pulled her food closer, ignoring the way Pearl's cheeks had lit up with a blush.

"Cool! We can make more plans after tomorrow. It'll be nice to hang out, just the three of us, right?"

"Y-yeah," Pearl agreed, her brain going a million miles a second. She pulled her food closer to herself, and tried to focus on it, though the feeling of Gem's lips played again and again in her head. Oh. This was going to be a special kind of torture, wasn't it? "Just the three of us."
