Work Text:

Dearest darlingest momsie and popsical

Jackson started the letter to his parents about his living situation at his new school.

My dear father

Stiles also started his own letter to his father about his living situation, as they were in the same boat.

There’s been some confusion over rooming here at Shiz. But of course, I’ll care for Nessa. But of course, I’ll rise above it. For I know that’s how you’d want me to respond.

Jackson was supposed to have a room all to himself. This just wasn’t right. How could he be stuck sharing a room with someone like him? But his parents raised him right! He knew how to rise up above these sorts of things. He could get through this year just perfectly fine!

Stiles was supposed to be rooming with Nessa, his disabled younger sister. This wasn’t right, he had to keep his eyes on her, he had to care for her. He didn’t know what his dad would do if Nessa got hurt in his care. He already had a hard enough time convincing him to let them go to school away from home, he was not going to mess this up!

Yes, there’s been some confusion, for you see my roommate is–. Unusually and exceedingly peculiar and altogether quite impossible to describe. Blonde.

Jackson had no idea how to describe his new roommate. He was, peculiar… to say the least. He wasn’t being rude! Absolutely not! Jackson was above such petty things as hating someone for their looks. He probably couldn’t help it. It was actually the way the other boy acted more than anything, really. He didn’t know how to strike up a conversation with the other boy. And if he was being honest, he wanted to sit down and talk with the other boy. But he wouldn’t tell anyone else that! He had to keep up his looks!

Stiles really had no other way to describe his roommate other than the fact that he was blonde. And he wasn’t being rude about it. No way! It’s just when people would describe someone as a ‘dumb blonde,’ his roommate Jackson would be the perfect fit. Not that he seemed dumb, he actually seemed interesting, he wanted to sit down and talk with him. But he knew that the other wouldn’t want that. I mean, who would want to talk with someone like him? Plus it’s not like he wanted to ruin his ‘reputation’ if it kept other people from talking to him, then he was fine with it.

What is this feeling? So sudden and new? I felt it the moment, I laid eyes on you. My pulse is rushing, my head is reeling, my face is flushing. What is this feeling?

Jackson didn’t know what it was, but he felt this weird feeling every time he saw the other boy. He didn’t know what it was. He was dying to find out. Because every time he saw him his pulse started rushing, his head was reeling, and his face started flushing. He didn’t know why, but it made him want to learn more about the other boy, as he was able to make him this way. No one had made him feel like this. Ever.

Stiles didn’t know what he was feeling. He didn’t know what this feeling he had for the blonde boy was. It was like he had some weird power over Stiles. The symptoms didn’t add up, he had never felt anything like this ever before. Who was this boy and how had he made Stiles feel this way?

Fervid as a flame. Does it have a name? Yes! Loathing! Unadulterated loathing! For your face, your voice, your clothing!

Jackson knew what the feeling was! Loathing! Exactly, he loathed everything about the other boy! That had to be it! He didn’t think about his face, voice, and his clothing for no other reason than the fact that he did not like them. That was it! There was nothing else to it… right?

Stiles absolutely loathed his new roommate, that was what it had to be. There was no other reason for him to be constantly thinking about the other boy! He was only thinking about him so much because of how much he hated him, that was it! No, he didn’t like him, and if Nessa kept telling him otherwise then she was the one in the wrong!

Let’s just say, I loathe it all! Every little trait, however small, makes my very flesh begin to crawl; with simple utter loathing! There’s a strange exhilaration! In such total detestation! It’s so pure! So strong!

Jackson hated everything about his roommate, every single trait that he obsessed over got on his nerves. It didn’t matter the strange feeling of exhilaration he got when just thinking about his roommate. It was nothing! He totally detested his roommate! This infatuation was nothing more than one of utter hatred!

Stiles hated his roommate, every little thing he did got on his nerves. Just thinking about the other boy made his skin crawl, with hatred of course! Nothing else! He hated everything about the boy, it was pure and utter hatred!

Though I do admit it came on fast! Still, I do believe that it can last! And I will be loathing, loathing you, my whole life long!

It didn’t matter how long, Jackson and Stiles both knew that they would hate each other for forever! Even after school, even after they go their separate ways, the hatred for the other would still be there. And that was the only reason they kept thinking about the other was because they hated each other. That was it.

Dear Glinda, you are just too good! How do you stand it I don’t think I could! She’s a terror! She’s a tartar! We don’t mean to show a bias, but Glinda you’re a martyr! Well, these things are sent to try us!

Jackson couldn’t help but the way people treated him so differently from, not just the other students, but from Stiles. They showed a clear bias in who they shone their affection on. Jackson didn’t see a reason as to why the other students showed a sort of resentment towards his roommate. He didn’t see the problem with the other boy, he never did anything to deserve to be called these terrible names. He wasn’t the ‘martyr’ people were calling him, he was a decent fucking human being. But at the end of the day, Jackson still played the part.

Poor Glinda, forced to reside, with someone so disgusticfied! We just want to tell you, we’re all on your side! We share your loathing!

Jackson hated pretending like he hated Stiles. He didn’t! If anything, he had realized that he might have feelings for the other boy. He hated how the other students assumed that he too, hated Stiles.

What is this feeling, so sudden and new? (Unadulterated loathing!) I laid eyes on you! (For her face, her voice, her clothing!) My pulse is rushing! My head is reeling! (Let’s just say, we loathe it all!) Oh, what is this feeling? (Every little trait however small) Does it have a name? (Makes my very flesh begin to crawl)

Sometimes Jackson liked to think back on when he first met Stiles in high school. He couldn’t believe how oblivious and idiotic he was. He wished he stood up against the other students and defended Stiles, but he didn’t. He was too far in the closet, and too obsessed with being perfect that he let it get in the way of his feelings. Jackson knows that Stiles doesn’t blame him for it, but that doesn’t mean he can’t still feel bad about it.

Stiles knows Jackson still feels bad about what happened in high school even though Stiles forgave him. He understands why he did it, and he is glad that they are where they are now. The only thing they can do is move on.

Yes! There’s a strange exhilaration! In such total detestation! It’s so pure so strong! So strong!

Jackson doesn’t know how he could’ve even hated Stiles in the first place. Just the idea of hating him seemed ridiculous to him now, the only feeling he felt when he looked at Stiles now was love. He is glad that he was able to make it out, that he was able to be with Stiles, that he is able to be with Stiles.

Though I do admit it came on fast! Still, I do believe that it can last! And I will be loathing, for, forever loathing, truly, deeply loathing you, loathing you! My whole life long! (Unadulterated loathing)

Stiles loved Jackson from the moment he met him, and while it took a while for Jackson to realize that he too loved Stiles back. Stiles still laughs when he thinks about how much Jackson tried fighting his feelings.

“No, no! It’s cute!” Stiles said while holding in a laugh. “Stopppp I don’t want to talk about that, do you know how embarrassing that was?” Jackson whined, literally whined.

Boo! Ahh!

And if later on in the day Jackson snuck up on Stiles to scare him as payback, then that was no one else’s business. And them both falling into a fit of laughter brought the same thought to both of their heads.

Yeah, they’re gonna be okay.
