Tall, dark, and Superman. He puts papers in his briefcase and drives away. To save the world or go to work, it’s the same thing to me.
Stiles watches as Derek puts papers– don’t ask Stiles what is on them, he doesn’t know– that he needs for work into his bag. Stiles doesn’t know if he is actually going to work or going to save the world. Oh yeah, that’s another thing, Derek Hale, Stiles’ best friend and roommate, is Superman. But whether Derek is going to the office or going to save the world doesn’t matter to Stiles, it’s all the same thing.
He’s got his mother’s eyes, his father's ambition. I wonder if he knows how much that I miss him.
Now, Stiles never had the chance to meet Derek’s parents, but he has heard stories about them from Derek. He’s told him how he has the same eyes as his mother. And from what Stiles has been told about his father, Derek has the same ambition as him. He knows Derek misses them. But Stiles misses Derek. He isn’t gone, he just isn’t at home as long as Stiles would like him to be. The world is never not in danger, you know?
I hang on to every word that you say. And you smile and say, “How are you?” I’ll say, “Just fine,” I always forget to tell you, I love you, I love you forever.
During the times that Derek is home, Stiles loves hearing about his day. Hearing about Superman from the news and from Derek himself are two different things. Stiles hangs on to every word he says. And anytime he tries to redirect the conversation onto Stiles by asking how his day was, Stiles always answers the same way, “Just fine.” And when Derek leaves for work, Stiles forgets to tell him I love you. Stiles wants to tell him, but he doesn’t know how.
I watch Superman fly away, you’ve got a busy day today. Go save the world, I’ll be around.
Stiles is in town one day when he looks up and sees Superman flying in the sky. Seems like it’s going to be a busy day for him. And Stiles can’t wait to hear about it when he sees him. When will he see him? Stiles doesn’t know, but Derek has to save the world, so Stiles will wait around for him.
And I watch Superman fly away, come back, I’ll be with you someday. I’ll be right here on the ground when you come back down.
Stiles hears about a particularly bad fight between Superman and the bad guy of the day. Stiles wants him to come back, to survive so he can be with him someday. Stiles knows he will survive, but all he can do is sit and wait here on the ground till Derek comes back down.
Tall, dark and beautiful, he’s complicated, he’s irrational. But I hope someday you take me away and save the day, yeah
Stiles loves the way Derek looks, he’s tall, dark, and so beautiful. But, that doesn’t stop him from being so complicated and irrational. Stiles will always hope for the day that Derek will take him away from here and save the day.
Something in his deep brown eyes has me singing, he’s not all bad like his reputation, and I can’t hear one single word they said
Stiles will never understand why some people talk about Superman as if he’s a bad guy. Every time he looks into Derek’s green eyes his heart soars. He hates hearing people talk about Superman badly, but just seeing Derek smile helps him ignore those people.
And you leave, got places to be, and I’ll be okay. I always forget to tell you I love you, I loved you from the very first day.
Stiles wants to tell Derek how much he loves him. Every time Derek leaves, Stiles wants to tell him. He wants to tell him how he’s loved Derek from the very first time he saw him. He wants to tell him how he feels, and Stiles will do it soon if it’s the last thing he does.
I watch Superman fly away, you’ve got a busy day today. Go save the world, I’ll be around. And I watch Superman fly away, come back, I’ll be with you someday. I’ll be right here on the ground, when you come back down.
Stiles dies inside a little bit every time he watches Derek fly away. He knows Derek is busy, he knows Derek has to save the world, but he wishes he could do more than wait around. He wishes he could be with Derek someday, he hates waiting here on the ground, he hates waiting for Derek to come back down. He has to tell him how he feels.
And I watch you fly around the world, and I hope you don’t save some other girl. Don’t forget, don’t forget about me. I’m far away but I’ll never let you go, I’m lovestruck and looking out the window. Don’t forget, don’t forget where I’ll be.
“Derek, can I tell you something? And you have to promise that you’ll listen, it’s something I need to get off my chest,” Stiles asks the question one night after they’ve both eaten dinner.
“You can ask me anything, Stiles,” Derek says it so sincerely that Stiles' heart melts a little.
“I hate having to watch you fly around the world, I hate knowing that you’re off saving other girls. And I know we aren’t together, but I don’t want you to forget about me, sometimes it feels like you’re so far away. I’m always sitting there lovestruck looking out the window at you, and I don’t want you to forget that I’m here!” Stiles says it all in one go, he can’t help himself.
Right here, wishing the flowers were from you, wishing the card was from you, wishing the call was from you. ‘Cause I’ve loved you from the very first day.
“I wish we were together, I wish we could be in a relationship. A real relationship, one where we get each other flowers and cards, where we call each other whenever we are apart. I’ve loved you forever, Derek. I’ve loved you from the very first day that I met you,” tears start to gather in Stiles’ eyes as he says this. He’s not even looking at Derek anymore, he can’t. He doesn’t want to see the look on Derek’s face as he rejects him.
I watch Superman fly away, you’ve got a busy day today. Go save the world, I’ll be around, forever and ever here. I watch Superman fly away, I swear, I’ll be with you someday, I’ll be right here on the ground, when you come back down.
“I want to be with you, Derek. I want to be here for you, I want to watch you save the world knowing you’ll come back to me! Because I’ll always be here! I’ll always be here waiting for you! And I will wait for you forever, I’ll wait for you no matter how long it takes because I love you! I love you so so much!” Stiles now has tears streaming down his face because Derek hasn’t said anything, he just wishes the idiot would say something already.
“Stiles, I feel the same way about you. I love you, Stiles. And you won’t ever have to wait for me ever again, because I want to be with you forever,” Stiles' head snaps up when Derek says this. Because there’s no way Derek feels the same way as he does.
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, when you come back down.
Stiles watches the news with a smile, it’s going on and on about Superman and his latest feat. Stiles can’t wait to hear about it from Derek himself when he gets home. It’s been a couple of weeks since Stiles’ confession and they were doing great, and Stiles can’t wait to see what their future holds together.
