Work Text:
Tommy shot up in bed, yanking the blanket off of Buck who was until the rush of cool air washed across him, was sleeping soundly next to him. Buck’s alarm was blaring on the side table, announcing his need to get up for work. That was until Buck haphazardly slammed his hand onto the table in hopes that it would silence the aggravating sound, which after some flailing to hit the correct button, it finally stopped its screaming and Buck was back to snoring softly against his pillow.
Once Tommy has woken up, it’s difficult for him to go back to sleep so he opted to watch Buck as he dozed off next to him. The sun peeked through a too-large gap in the curtain and shone directly onto Buck. He looked like something straight out of a painting. Long lines of muscle carved across his back, so beautiful that Tommy couldn’t help but brush his fingers across the soft skin and press light kisses onto Buck’s shoulder and neck. He ran his fingers through Buck’s hair that almost shone gold under the sunlight, untangling any knots that he came across. And if this was how all his mornings were spent, Buck would never leave. But, of course, he still has a job to get to and he was rudely reminded of this when the soothing touches and the peppered kisses stopped in favour of Tommy pulling at his arm to get him to roll over.
Buck let out a long groan as he rolled over and sat up, silently wishing he picked a career that didn’t require him to wake up at absurd AM. Eventually, Tommy had managed to coax Buck out of bed with the promise of a home cooked breakfast as long as he went to go take a shower, and buck pointedly ignored the fact that Bobby would definitely be cooking something at the station for them because who would he be to deny his boyfriend to cook for him.
After some time, Buck had finished his shower stepping out and being hit with the smell of bacon. He quickly put on a pair of boxers and his work trousers before grabbing a shirt and fleece to put on once he got downstairs hoping that he could live in this domesticity for a little while longer, without the reminder of work. So, the pair ate together, both still shirtless, only Tommy was still in a pair of sweats turned pyjama pants. Though, by the time they finished eating, it was already ten minutes later than Buck should have left and he was almost shoved out his apartment still shirtless by his boyfriend.
Much too soon for his liking, Buck was driving, thankfully with his shirt and fleece on as the morning chill had him shivering ever so slightly. When he arrived at the station, he was groggy and all the comfortable warmth of being with Tommy had worn off.
As Buck guessed, Bobby was up in the kitchen cooking another fancy breakfast but Buck was a lot more interested in the coffee pot next to him, beelining straight towards it. Bobby greeted him as he passed but focused back onto his new recipe before Buck could greet him back.
Eddie had brought in Christopher’s pack of uno cards and was sitting at the table in a heated game with Hen, Chimney, and Ravi. Buck had his back turned to them but their childish bickering was grounding him as he poured himself a cup of coffee into a mug that he and Chris bought for Eddie last father’s day. He was a lot more relaxed now and just maybe, he could survive a couple hours without his boyfriend when he was here with his family.
And then Ravi won the game, throwing his final card onto the table and hands into the air, followed by the disappointed groans of the others. With no need to focus on the game anymore, Ravi had looked up from the table, noticing Buck who still had his back turned to them.
“Buck,”
Buck turned around at hearing his name and hummed into his drink.
“Who’s Tommy?” Ravi asked. Buck choked on his coffee and caught the attention of everyone else.
“What?” Buck managed to get out through his coughing, which Bobby had rushed beside him to pat him on the back, as Buck muttered ‘I’m good’ repeatedly.
“On the back of your jumper. It says Tommy Kinard. Who’s that?”
Buck rushed to place the mug onto the counter and yank the jumper off. Buck put on the wrong jumper. His cheeks warmed at the thought of having his boyfriend’s name plastered on him for everyone to see but that’s something to explore at a time when he isn’t panicking about how to explain why he’s wearing Tommy’s clothes. Buck looked at the jumper he was gripping in his hands and then back up at the group who was looking at him confused.
“Why do you have Tommy’s jumper?” It was Chimney’s turn to speak up it seemed and Buck’s mind blanked. Yet, as the group stared at him expecting an answer, he blurted something out before he could even think of a response.
“Boyfriend.”
Buck stared at the group in silence. No taking it back now.
“He’s my boyfriend.”
There was more silence as Buck thought up every other answer he could have given.
Eddie then pulled a face. “Wait, Tommy’s gay?”
Buck stared at Eddie in shock, surprised that he didn’t already know, but also because he wasn’t expecting that to be the first thing said when he came out.
“... Yeah. That never came up when you guys were hanging out?”
Eddie, still looking confused, started to wave his hands around. “No, no. I mean not that it would have mattered.”
However, something came up to Buck with Eddie’s reaction. “Wait, why are you more surprised about Tommy being gay than me being bisexual?”
“Hun, I mean this in the nicest way possible,” Hen decided to speak up and Buck was very interested in what she had to say. “But we all thought you were queer when we first met you.”
“What?” Back looked around to everyone sitting around the table who all looked back with the same mildly guilty look. “All of you?”
Bobby, who had since returned to his cooking, was the first to speak up. “I mean I never like to assume, but you know we all get first impressions and well…” Bobby didn’t finish his sentence, but he didn’t need to for Buck to understand what he was saying. In his peripheral, he had also noticed Ravi nodding in agreement.
“When I first joined,” Eddie wasn’t looking properly at Buck, focussing more on his shoulder or his hand that had wrapped itself around the coffee mug. Anywhere that wasn’t Buck's face. “I thought you had flirted with a couple guys while we were on calls. Eventually, I just assumed you were strangely friendly instead.”
Chimney then had a large grin spread across his face. “Speaking about when Eddie joined, Hen and I were convinced you had some repressed thing for Eddie.”
“What?” Eddie and Buck almost yelled, in unison, whipping both their heads to look at him. Hen smacks Chimney’s arm.
“That was supposed to stay between us,”
As Chimney laughed and apologised, though Hen was clearly not mad at all, Buck looked away for a moment and thought about it. Did he have something for Eddie then? He couldn’t see himself being with Eddie in that sense now, but looking back he definitely had something that he had pushed down very deep. Buck looked back at the group with a sly grin, Chimney and Hen were still bickering and Ravi was chuckling at a slightly redder Eddie.
“Yeah I think I did, actually.”
Now it was Eddie’s turn to choke on his drink though he managed to squeak out a weak, ‘what’. Though, nobody was too worried about Eddie coughing up coffee back into his cup, instead laughing at Eddie’s reaction.
Bobby had finished cooking by now, and was, once again, by Buck’s side, patting his back. “Well, I’m happy that you felt comfortable enough to tell us. Buck ignored the happy tears that prickled at his eyes and just smiled shyly at Bobby.
He never doubted the fact that he would be supported but it was one thing to know it and another thing to hear it.
Hen didn’t hesitate to also jump up and join Bobby and Buck in a hug and soon everyone was all standing around Buck in a poorly attempted group hug. Then Ravi pulled away.
“No, but seriously. Who is Tommy?”
