Work Text:
Prologue
It wasn't particularly busy today in the downtown area. Most places were closed down due to the construction that was going on. The weather almost resembled that of summer. Being in higher temperatures some felt it was good to spend some time outside.
There were a few groups of people walking to and fro and doing whatever people did on their typical days off of work. A figure stood among the crowd. Not walking in the same direction as them. Walking rather aimlessly, In her own little world. Humming a tune she heard off of a TV as she walked along.
Buttoning up her Raincoat, as if preparing for a downpour. She was tucking her brown hair in her hat when she noticed a man snooping around one of the closed buildings.
Seeing that had caught her interest. Why was he snooping around this place? Given she had nothing really better to do at the moment she decided to be nosey.
His ears looked big. And his low hair cut just made them stick out. Not in a bad way. She was tempted to just poke. Although doing that may come off as rude. However before she could get closer to inspect-
“oi! What do you think you're doing?”
She looked and saw the stranger had noticed her. She shrugged. The man raised an eyebrow as he frowned.
“Who are you anyways?” the man said, turning around fully. “If you're trying to spy on me you're doing a spectacular job you know.”
“I'm me.”
He sighed and shook his head.
“Where did you come from? And are you dangerous?”
"I don't think so. I just am." The girl in the raincoat says cryptically with a shrug. "What are you?" She pokes him.
He moves back, mildly annoyed. “I'm the doctor.” He simply states.
"That's a funny name. So you work at a hospital or something?" She asked.
“I already told you. My name is The Doctor... I'm... a timelord.”
“So you're not a doctor and you work with time…?” she looked skeptical…like she wasn't the weird one here.
“Something like that.” He looks at her again and suddenly points at her. No doubt suspicious since she had been following behind him for quite some time. “What's with the raincoat!?”
"it might rain." The girl says. In the sky there was not a cloud in sight. Clearly far from being any possible chance of rainy weather.
“... I can see that the universe decided to give me a person who's going to give me a hard time…” He sighs again. “not even the right weather requires that…”
The brunette was quiet. "I just like it okay?" She says. "And it might still rain." She insisted. “Also are you a time traveler?”
A sigh. “You're really going to make all of this a secret, huh? Fine.” he rubs his forehead in annoyance. “Okay then. And no, I'm not just a time traveler. Tell me, have you ever been off this planet?”
"My brother says I'm not supposed to talk to strangers." She says dodging the question.
“What is your name?”
"I don't have one." She says truthfully
He blinks.
“What...? You... Don't have a name?”
She shakes her head. “Now that I think about it…no not really? Never really had anyone needing to call for me so…” she shrugs.
“Well you're certainly a weird human…” the doctor decided. “If I give you a name will you shoo?”
The brunette cracks a smile, hands behind her back. “Hmmmmm, yes.”
He gets a little excited. “Okay okay... Let me just think of…” He then shakes his head. “No! No! That'll be too much of a responsibility...for your pestering, I should call you Obnoxious!”
Staring at the girl, she looked out of place. And her rain gear was not helping. She was human as far as the doctor could discern. Yet there was an air of strangeness and mystery.
The doctor thinks for a couple of more seconds and then he decides on one name.
“Also quiet strange…” He takes a step forward. “How about... Ana?”
"Ana...?" She repeats it a few times almost as if testing it. "Ana....... anomaly…” the newly christened Ana, cracks a smile. “....yes! I like it!” Yep she was definitely a strange case.
“Good! That's fantastic!” The doctor said. “Now then..shoo. go on shoo.” He made a gesture similar to telling someone to get lost. He turned and continued his journey forward. After a moment of silence he caught a s flash of something red in his peripheral vision.
Had he not caught that, he would have no clue she was still following him around. She was extremely quiet in her footsteps.
"QUIT following me-"
"I don't know where to go."
"In that direction. Goodbye.”
Ana turned her head to see where he was pointing. She pouts.
Ana shook her head.
“We made a deal. You have your name.” the doctor reminded her.
However Ana grinned slyly, raising her crossed fingers. He had been duped.
“I lied! My fingers were crossed behind my back the whole time!”
Oh rassilon. She was going to be the death of him.
