Work Text:
Chuuya was never one to have big parties for his birthday. The biggest ones he’s had was when Dazai was in the Port Mafia and they’d spend the night enjoying a cake, that Dazai most definitely stole from somewhere, along with some stolen alcohol that Chuuya took from Verlaine.
Today he wasn’t expecting anything, especially since he never told Kunikida his birthday, and there’s no way that Dazai would remember his birthday, especially after the long years without each other now. Why would they celebrate it anyways?
With a sigh, the ginger opens the door to their shared apartment, already heading to take off his hat and gloves. He shuts the door quietly, slipping out of his heels and coat, placing them near the door along with the hat and gloves.
When he looks back up, he doesn’t see Dazai or Kunikida anywhere, making his heart drop a bit. But it was expected, obviously. Closing his eyes in slight annoyance and disappointment, he walks father into their apartment, heading to the kitchen to see if they have any alcohol or not.
As he walks in, he definitely wasn’t expecting to see what he saw. There was a small cake on the island, along with a few bottles of wine, the good wine at that. And then there was Kunikida and Dazai, both standing there with a smile on their faces.
“I- what?”
Chuuya sputtered, ocean blue eyes wide in surprise. Kunikida laughs gently at his shock, walking over to Chuuya, cupping his cheeks to place a small kiss upon his forehead. His lips trail down his face before landing on Chuuya’s lips, giving him a soft chaste kiss on them.
“Happy birthday, pretty boy.”
The blonde mutters into his ear before pulling back, letting Dazai have his turn, which he’s been eagerly waiting for. Dazai was especially excited to celebrate this birthday with him, considering they haven’t celebrated in years.
Rushing over, he threw his arms around Chuuya, pulling him in closer for a hug. It wasn’t unusual for Dazai to do that, but it was definitely weird with how he was acting about it. Chuuya just shrugged it off, letting the moment happen, since after all, they actually cared about him.
“Happy birthday, slug!”
Dazai says in his usual cheerful, yet slightly annoying, tone, that iconic smirk plastered across his lips as he doesn’t let go for a while. When he finally does, he practically shoves Chuuya towards the kitchen, wanting to show him what they did.
“So you both, did all this?”
He asked, raising an eyebrow as he stared down at the cake, which was neatly decorated in a white buttercream frosting, and text saying “Happy Birthday” in the front, with a few hearts after it. He guessed that most of the decorating, along with the baking was Kunikida’s doing, while the wine was Dazai’s.
“Mhm. Why wouldn’t we want to celebrate your special day?”
Kunikida inquired, though most definitely rhetorical. He grabbed a knife from nearby, handing it towards Chuuya to see if he wanted to do the honors, which he declined. They both knew not to trust Dazai with knives, so Kunikida had to cut the cake.
None of them were into singing, other than Dazai, so they decided not to sing to him, mainly because it would be slightly awkward between them. He cut out the first slice, setting it down on a plate before sliding it over to Chuuya, along with a fork. He glanced down at it, not even hesitating to take a bite. Chocolate, his favorite.
“What would you like to do for your birthday?”
Dazai piped up, taking a large bit of his piece, practically devouring it. Chuuya paused, taking another bite. He didn’t know what to do. When him and Dazai celebrated it would just be a few hours of drunken shenanigans before both of them passing out somewhere on the floor of Dazai’s room.
“I don’t know. I just want to hang out with you guys.”
Kunikida nodded, staring at him for a few seconds as he thought himself. He knew that Chuuya didn’t do much for his birthday, having heard that from Dazai. He wanted to do something special for him, but hearing his response, he decided what would be best for them.
After cake, they washed it down with a few glasses of wine. It was some of the best wine Chuuya’s had in a while, having around five glasses of it before Kunikida stopped him, not wanting them to get too drunk on his birthday, though it didn’t seem like a bad idea in Chuuya’s eyes.
“You must’ve had a long day, hm? Why don’t we just cuddle together?”
Dazai spoke up again, leaning in closer to him, despite being across the counter. His cheeks were slightly rosy, well, all of them were because of the wine. It wasn’t a bad idea to Chuuya, think it would be nice to just enjoy some downtime with them, to be held.
Without another thought, he nodded, reaching to get another glass of wine, but Kunikida quickly grabbed the bottle and put it somewhere else. Chuuya didn’t care though, it was fine if he didn’t have wine at the moment, he could always have some later with them.
Back in the bedroom, Kunikida was currently helping Chuuya out of his clothing so that he could change into something more comfortable while they cuddled. Dazai, on the other hand, was already lying in bed, whining about them not being there already.
Kunikida and Chuuya ignored him, for the moment at least. Finally slipping out of his clothing, Chuuya went to instinctively cover his chest, despite the fact that they’ve seen each other naked multiple times. But it could be for the fact that they weren’t having sex, and that Kunikida was undressing him, but it still felt weird.
Moving his hands away, Kunikida leaned down to kiss him again, letting his hands wander over Chuuya’s body, feeling all his scars under his calloused fingers, tracing them lightly. When they pulled back from the kiss, Chuuya was a bit redder in the face, more flustered now, which was a cute sight to see.
“You’re such a pretty boy.”
Kunikida said, trailing kisses down his neck and to his collarbone. He didn’t do anything more than kisses, not wanting to go that far into intimacy that night. After that, he traced the scars underneath his chest from when he had top surgery, making sure to be extra gentle.
“No, you’re the pretty boy.”
Chuuya replied, trying to hide how flustered he was right now, looking away from him and down the floor, his hands covering his face now. Kunikida chuckled lightly, standing back up straight as he put on hand under his chin, making him look back at him.
“Mm, well you’re prettier.”
Kunikida mused at Chuuya’s reaction, chuckling to himself before letting go of his chin. Dazai whined again, watching this whole scene go on in front of him, getting more impatient as time went on since he just wanted to cuddle.
Noticing the whine, Kunikida looked back and smirked a little, watching as Dazai stared at them, annoyed and disappointed, though they both knew it was an act. Turning back around, he grabbed one of his own tee shirts and threw it onto Chuuya, seeing as how it draped down low to his thighs.
Immediately after that, Dazai started laughing, finding it funny how big the shirt was on Chuuya. He knew that Chuuya was short, and that Kunikida was tall, but seeing this he couldn’t help but laugh.
“My slug is so small!”
“Shut it, Mackerel!”
Chuuya yelled back, stomping one foot on the ground as his brows furrowed, but Kunikida could still tell that he was very much embarrassed. After a bit of coaxing them to calm down, he managed to get Chuuya onto the bed and next to Dazai without him attacking Dazai.
When those two settled down, he climbed into bed with them, wrapping his arms around Chuuya’s waist as he pulled him in close, his chest pressed against Chuuya’s back. Dazai immediately got jealous and tried to steal him back, but he ended up failing because of Kunikida’s strength.
“You two don’t always have to fight over me, y’know?”
Chuuya sighs as he sees Dazai’s failed attempt, rolling his eyes lightly at it. Not wanting him to feel left out, as of now, he grabbed Dazai by the hips and brought him in, pressing their chests together, both of them now sandwiching Chuuya between them.
But he liked it like that. It felt nice and comfortable. He felt wanted. Which was a good feeling for him. Especially on his birthday, with his two partners.
Eventually, Chuuya was the first to fall asleep, his eyes fluttering shut with his head against Dazai’s shoulder, still between the two. Kunikida and Dazai looked down at him, smiling to themselves as they saw him pass out, exhausted from working earlier.
Not wanting to disturb him, since he needed his sleep, they both opted for gently kissing his head and keeping their arms wrapped around him in a tight hug. Dazai yawned, feeling the exhaustion hitting him as well, closing his eyes as well but not before muttering something under his breath.
“Happy birthday, slug.”
And with that, they were both passed out. Kunikida had a bit of a harder time falling asleep, just watching them sleep while he felt the exhaustion slowly creep over him. They both looked so peaceful. He wondered if that’s what they looked like back when they were teens, sleeping like that.
Eventually though, he needed to sleep as well. So he closed his eyes, yawning and placing one last kiss on his head before cuddling up closer to him, feeling himself drift off into sleep, but he woke himself up a bit to mumble one last thing to him that night.
“Happy birthday, pretty boy.”
And that’s how Chuuya’s 23rd birthday ended. Wrapped up in the arms of his lovers, the taste of wine lingering in his lips, and something that he would remember for a lifetime. It was like all those years ago, but now he and Dazai were closer than ever, and they had Kunikida as well. If he could change anything, he wouldn’t. This was perfect. This was all he needed.
