Work Text:
It was a perfect day to practice; it was currently spring, it was warming a bit and birds chirped as the blooms of the trees began to sprout. Shen Qingqiu watched as the white lotus of a disciple practiced with terrible posture. Although he was struggling, the young boy seemed extremely determined to train. Shen Qingqiu couldn’t bear to watch anymore, he felt he was losing face by just watching. He walked into the training field. His green robes blew lazily in the wind, and his complementary fan held open.
“Binghe. Your form is incorrect.” Shen Qingqiu said, aloof. Luo Binghe’s back was to him, so when he heard his voice it made him jump slightly.
“Shizun! Ah…Uhm…my form?” Luo Binghe’s face had lightened up but faltered after his brain processed what Shen Qingqiu said.
Shen Qingqiu sighed. He had read every book, manual, poem, or piece of literature within Qing Jing Peak at least twice. He could recite some by word too. He pictures the manual that is given to all disciples. He placed his hands on Luo Binghe’s arms and moved them into the correct places. He explained to Luo Binghe the footing and where to move. His instructions were clear and he cited the book he read word for word to make it easier on his disciple.
Then it came to placing Luo Binghe's head in the correct direction. When he touched the soft skin on Luo Binghe's face, the disciple felt a blush appear on his ears.
"Shizun can you please not touch my face... it's...uhm...much too warm, and your skin is really warm too." Luo Binghe said, escaping eye contact by looking to the side.
How come Luo Binghe looked like a young maiden asking not to be touched in unspeakable areas?! Shen Qingqiu felt the need to chuckle. But he restrained himself and he removed his hands from his disciple's face and instead on his head. Once he repositioned Luo Binghe's head he felt his hands trapped when he tried to remove them. He quickly pulled his hand away from Binghe's hair like it had been burned. Luo Binghe winced from the tug on his hair.
"When was the last time you took care of your hair, Binghe?" Shen Qingqiu asked, quickly dissolving his shocked look to a more neutral, cool look.
"I take a shower every morning, Shizun?" Luo Binghe answered, confused beyond belief.
Shen Qingqiu wanted to cry out, how outrageous!
"That's not what I asked. Follow me," Shen Qingqiu sighed. He took hold of Binghe's arm and they left towards the bamboo house where Shen Qingqiu resided.
Back in his past life, while he was growing up, He had a younger sister who had curly hair, just like Luo Binghe. He was extremely fond of his sister and went out of his way to take care of her hair because she didn't know how to. He knew how much care hair like this truly needed. In a period that had flying swords, spiritual power, demons, and gods, how did they not have a single way for people to not take care of their hair?
Almost 30 minutes later, Shen Qingqiu sat Luo Binghe down on the bed of his chambers. He sat behind him with his legs crossed, a comb in one hand, a homemade dry leave-in conditioner, a liquid conditioner, and a spray bottle full of water. Shen Qingqiu was combing through parts of Luo Binghe's hair to detangle it as much as he could before it got wet. His fingers hurt from splitting parts.
"Binghe, once a week come to visit me, so your hair doesn't end up so...tangled," Shen Qingqiu said, spraying the water on Binghe's hair.
"Ok, Shizun..." Luo Binghe shivered slightly as the cold water got on his back and his robes.
"This is going to hurt a bit so stay still, alright?" Shen Qingqiu said, lathering Binghe's hair in conditioner and gathering his disciple's hair in a small amount, taking the comb he brushed through the piece with some struggle.
It had been an hour since Shen Qingqiu started taking care of Luo Binghe's hair and he had only had about 10% of his hair done. And Luo Binghe was whimpering in pain. Probably because it took some strength to take care of matted and tangled hair like this.
"You're doing great, Binghe. But this will take some time, so brace yourself." Shen Qingqiu commented, his attention solely on the hair of his disciple in front of him.
"Yes. Shi...Shizun..." Luo Binghe said, clenching his hand so he wouldn't begin crying.
Shen Qingqiu has gone through the process with his sister. He shook his head as he soothed the trembling person in front of him. By the time it hit 3 hours later, Luo Binghe had finally gotten his hair detangled. Luo Binghe was a mess though, tearing running down his eyes as Shen Qingqiu softly massaged his scalp. Shen Qingqiu truly wanted to let out a chuckle, this man would go through true horrors further in the future, and yet he began weeping from detangling his hair. He could barely believe it as he shook his head.
Shen Qingqiu couldn't find a hair-dryer-like thing, but using what he had he came up with something with his spiritual power turning into hot air and a defuser-like head of something. Using these, he combined it to dry Luo Binghe's hair. After drying the disciple's hair he sprayed the make-shift, leave-in conditioner.
"Get up, look at yourself in a mirror." Shen Qingqiu said, stretching his arms and legs, and pushed Binghe off the bed to go look at himself.
Binghe looked at the mirror in amazement, the curls in his hair looked soft and silk-like. He turned around with a beaming smile on his face.
"Thank you Shizun! You are the best!" Luo Binghe shouted, running towards Shen Qingqiu to hug him, but Shen Qingqiu didn't hug him back. He still enjoyed the hug.
Shen Qingqiu heard the system blare in his ears.
