Chapter Text
It just felt so unreal. Being invited to the rich, spoiled kid's home to work on a school project nobody looked forward to. When Kidd was asked he could hardly believe it. Of course the question was followed by a small jab at his living conditions; Felix telling Kidd that his 'living space' wouldn't be suitable to do their work in and that his multi-story home was more professional and comfortable. Kidd could disagree, once he got a good look at the mansion he couldn't take his eyes off of the fancy decor, unique structure or the few housekeepers that were constantly busy. No way could he keep his focus on any papers nor presentations. And now he sat in Felix's room, in front of his well-organised desk with all their work on it, and beside the British kid himself.
It was hard to focus on the papers, something was bugging Kidd and he couldn't ignore it. He wasn't sure what it really was, but it had something to do with Felix. Kidd just felt the urge to speak with him, not about whatever they were meant to be writing, but about.. His hobbies? Interests? Life as a whole? He hasn't spoken a word about any of those things yet, it felt somewhat embarrassing, especially since Felix has actually been doing the work and wasn't staring into space like Kidd currently was doing.
Kidd slowly spun his pen on the desk and softly tapping his foot on the floor, unsure on how to approach a conversation with the fancy Brit. He glanced at him, noticing his soft yet focused expression. He wasn't writing, probably just spell-checking his work. It was known that Felix was quite a perfectionist and refused to make any mistakes, so it wasn't such a bad guess. What Kidd hadn't guessed was that his glancing was now becoming staring, and Felix wasn't not aware of that. He kept quiet about it for just another minute, finishing reading over the last few lines before moving the paper away from himself, sighing and looking back at Kidd with an unamused look.
"Are you done staring? If you need something, spit it out" Felix stated.
This caused Kidd to snap out of it and to quickly look back at his own notes which had only two lines written down. "Sorry, I just zoned out for a bit"
Felix softly scoffed and rolled his eyes. "I would personally say that that was longer than 'a bit'. Are you stuck on something? It would help if you spoke more while working with me"
Kidd paused for a moment and gathered his thoughts together. This is his chance to keep the conversation going. "Right, uhh... So what do you do around here?" He tried to put on his best nonchalant face but looking a bit awkward. He couldn't help but smile dumbly too.
Felix raised an eyebrow and kept his look of unamusement. "Does that have anything to do with plants? The topic which we're creating a project on?"
All that Kidd could do was frown and shake his head. He really needed to learn how to socialise better. What he didn't expect was for Felix to sigh and turn around slightly on his chair, now putting his full attention on him.
"Very well, if that's what will get you to start working, then we shall chat." This got a bigger, proper smile out of Kidd. "What I do at my home? Well, I put a lot of focus on my studies, for school and for my future business, and in my spare time I tend to do some reading. If I'm truly lacking entertainment, I allow Teddy to chat with me. Those are rare times. How about you?"
"Ooo, well, usually I hang out with Billy, Lily, Nugget and some others and we duel with monstermon battles and go to random abandoned buildings" Kidd happily kicked his legs as he spoke.
"..Uh-huh? Aren't those.. filthy?"
"Eyup"
"Heavens, and that is what you consider fun, or what?"
"It's cool, I could always invite you if you're interested?" Kidd chuckled and made a long 'hmm?' as Felix awkwardly hesitated before clearing his throat.
"I will.. maybe consider it. Don't have your hopes too high" This was good enough for Kidd, who quietly air punched with glee.
Felix turned his head back to his papers, though not ending the conversation just yet. One look at his face shown just how much happier he was than before their chat. Kidd began writing and thought of what more to say next.
"What food is your favourite?"
"Simple questions, I like that. Let's see, I enjoy savoury foods, for example, roasted chicken and ratatouille" Felix spoke, glancing at Kidd every so often.
"...That one movie with the rat in the gingers hair?"
"Ratatouille is a dish, you imbecile" Despite insulting the brunette, it seemed like Felix said it light-heartedly. Especially since he giggled after and lightly shook his head. "I beg of you, educate yourself"
Kidd chuckled and shrugged. "Guess I should."
The two continued to ask little things about each other throughout their work time, occasionally telling a joke or poking a bit of fun at the other. At some point they have forgotten about the project and conversed for what felt like hours, only realising it was late once Felix's father walked in to inform them that Kidd's mother was outside to take him home.
"We could arrange to work here tomorrow after school, same time, if you'd like?" Felix asked his new friend as he walked with him down the stairs.
"Sure, today was really fun! You're pretty cool, y'know?" Kidd smiled, nearing the front door and putting his shoes on.
"oh, ah.. fantastic. I can't wait" Felix watched Kidd open the door and look back at him.
"See-ya then, Fe!" Kidd waved goodbye and ran to his mother's car, starting to speak enthusiastically to her as he climbed inside.
Felix stood still for a moment, thinking back to what was said as he watched the car drive off.
"...I'm pretty cool" He felt himself form a smile.
