Work Text:
He had been an icon, a legend in his own right, someone who was poised to be the most popular character in all of history and then his creators lost the ability to create short films and he ended up being overshadowed by his successor to the point where many assume he was a rabbit version of the rodent.
It wasn’t enough that he was cast aside but to be forgotten abd left as a footnote made his ink boil as the world moved on and he and many others were left to rot in this world of the discarded and abandoned creations of Disney that were no longer beloved or remembered in the eyes of an audience that was never satisfied by them but always wanted more and better then them, this caused him no end of frustration as he wanted to return to that world and be as big a star as the mouse hut settled for his kingdom in order to make a new life for himself and others that had no other option or place to call home.
For a time, he was content and willing to be open minded even building the mouse his own home in Ostown so in case of the unlikely possibility of him and his girlfriend ending up in thief world that he be willing to be the better man or rabbit in this case.
Yet on the day of the event that caused him the deepest pain, he remembered it was a warm and brisk day that seemed so peaceful and tranquil until the screams began as the sun was eclipsed by a bright hue of green that erased and darkened many of the landscapes and the surrounding areas into a dark and twisted place that seemed ripped from the pages of a horror novel then a retirement home for forgotten toons and it got worse with the arrival of the Blot, a monster capable of destroying and killing anyone or any threat in his path, had he not acted, all would be lost, but in the end, his better half took the risk snd lost her life to save him from his demise, now it was clear that his rival and successor was a problem but he figured he be able to do something to help him escape in order to maybe have the heart for himself but of course, he couldn’t do it because he knew it wasn’t what he needed.
He might have been thinking it but after witnessing how Mickey had put his life on the line and then made up for his mistakes by battling the Blot and helping him to restore his kingdom and regain his love, he understood that he belonged with his family and that he would be a fair and just ruler who would be himself rather then imitate someone he thought was more important than him when he realized that his purpose wasn’t to just be a ruler but also an example to show how even the forgotten could find themselves, when he sees Mickey, he sees a brother who to him is not a rival or a villain but a friend who would do anything to save everyone he cared about.
In the end, a hero is not defined by glory or power but rather the strentgh and character of their hearts to do what is right even if the cost to them is greater then they would have wanted but still venture forth to do what it takes to save a world from the brink of collapse.
