Chapter Text
It was a cold, early morning as Harumi began to make his usual morning tea. There were less birds chirping this morning, which felt more peacful. Harumi, however, dreaded the silence at times. He poured his tea into a mug and carried it to his disorderly couch sitting in the living room. The room was dim since Harumi had closed most of the windows the night before. He pressed a few buttons on the remote until he selected Your Lie in April, a depressing- drama and romance anime. Something’s different this morning... Harumi thinks to himself as he squints at nothing but the clean, pale wall in front of him. The show proceeds to play until he suddenly hears a ping! come from his phone. Who could be messaging Harumi this early on a Saturday morning? He grabs his phone to check the message watching as Akihiko’s profile picture pops up on his screen reading “HARUMI”, ominously in all capitals.
“What’s up??” He sends along with an unserious good- morning cat sticker. After a few seconds, Aki reply’s.
“It’s snowing!” He says, sending a smiley face emoji afterwards. He stares at the message for a sec and then jolts up. He opens the window to check and make sure Aki isn’t playing a trick on him (even though he’s not the type to make jokes like that). Sure enough, it was snowing harsher then Harumi has seen since he got to Japan. I guess I really just forgot to check the window this morning, Harumi sighs. He watches the snow as snowflakes fall and cover the floor with white. His phone pings with another notification.“You haven’t seen it snow like this right?” Aki asks. Harumi shifts his attention back to the chat messages.
“Nope” Harumi types, wondering about how Aki managed to consider that small fact. Where could this be going…
“So” Aki texts after pausing for a few brief seconds before continuing his sentence.
“Do you maybe want to go out in the snow together?” Harumi’s face lights up after he reads the message. His mind goes blank for a second, and a feeling of pure joy passes through him. Although, he’ll never admit it to himself, far less to Akihiko. Out In the snow.. with Aki? he imagines how it could go, and takes a second to think of a reply.
“Sure.” Harumi stares at his reply hoping it was good enough. What else could he say without making it seem like a huge deal? Aki sees the message and starts typing.
“I’ll be right there.” Harumi’s eyes widen.
“WHAT, are you serious? It’s literally under 30 degrees out there and you’re coming by yourself??” Harumi knows how selfless Aki can be but now, this is too much. He can freeze and who knows if someone will be able to save him in time. “I’m going to meet you in the middle. We’re gonna be in the snow anyways.” Harumi sends, and stands up. Whenever he states something, it always takes a lot to change his mind.
“Are you sure?? I’m already on my way and I’ll be fine.” Harumi narrows his eyes then opens them wider again.
“I’ll get ready quick, wait a few minutes.” He texts and rushes to get his coat and gloves, without looking back to see Akihiko’s response. There’s faint light coming from the slightly uncovered window. He feels the rush of excitement overcome him once again, warming his body. How do I feel this way, I don’t get it. Harumi wonders to himself and pushes the thought away. “It’ll just be a nice day in the snow.” He says aloud to himself. “I have to finish getting ready.”
