Chapter 1: Prologue
Chapter Text
Thistleclaw stalked through the territory after Sunstar, he had finally been made deputy, but now he wanted more power. His claws slid out as Sunstar turned around to speak to him, but before the leader could talk, Thistleclaw leapt at him, tearing his throat out and smiling as he watched Sunstar fall to the earth with a thud. He knew the leader still had extra lives, but he had a plan for that. Before StarClan could heal his wounds, Thistleclaw dragged him to the river and tossed the ginger tom in, StarClan couldn’t heal his wounds while the body jostled in the current. He washed the blood off his paws then slipped back to camp, no cat was aware of his crime, they were all asleep besides Tigerclaw, his ally.
As Thistlestar slept, having received his nine lives just last night, he found himself in a dank area, thick black trees surrounded the clearing he stood in, an eerie fog hung in the air and it smelled awful. The Place of No Stars? He thought, had he died already? No. It’s just a dream.
“Hello Thistlestar.” A voice rang out from behind him.
The grey and white tom whipped around to face the cat. A tortoiseshell and white cat with amber eyes was standing in front of him. “Who are you?” He asked, narrowing his eyes.
“I am Mapleshade.” The cat mewed, sitting down. “And I have something I think you’d like to hear. Something that can benefit both of us.”
Thistlestar’s ears pricked with interest. “And what would that be?”
“The father of Bluefur’s kits.” Mapleshade flexed her claws.
“Thrushpelt?” Thistlestar cocked his head, confused. Bluefur having kits had benefited him, why would this cat believe he wanted to get rid of them? He hated Bluefur, but he was planning to apprentice Mistykit to Tigerclaw, a new warrior to destroy his enemies.
“No.” Mapleshade shook her head. “Their true father is a cat from RiverClan, a cat who is kin of my enemy. Oakheart.”
Thistlestar bristled with rage. Not only was Bluefur weak, but she was a traitor . But despite his rage at the blue molly’s betrayal, he smiled. “That is interesting.”
Chapter 2: Chapter 1
Chapter Text
Bluefur sat in the nursery, watching her little kits play, Stonekit and Mistykit were playfighting, Mistykit was pretending to be a big evil leader of ShadowClan, and Stonekit was a ThunderClan deputy, Mosskit watched them silently.
But the kitten’s game was interrupted by a yowl from the clan leader. “All cats old enough to catch their own prey gather beneath the Highrock for a clan meeting!”
Bluefur padded out and sat down next to Whitestorm, gazing up at Thistlestar on the Highrock
“It appears we have a traitor among us.” Thistlestar snarled, his gaze resting on Bluefur. “Bluefur, would you care to tell us who the father of your kits is?”
Thrushpelt jumped to his paws. “I am!” He called out.
Bluefur’s pelt bristled as Thistlestar shook his head. “No. You are not.”
The blue-grey molly sighed, she had to tell the truth now, or her kits could be killed. “The father is Oakheart.” She meowed.
Gasps of shock rang out throughout the clearing, and Thistlestar flicked his tail as a signal. Tigerclaw began to stalk forward towards the kits, who were trembling with fear.
Mistykit looked the dark warrior in the eyes. “Stay back!” She mewed, her voice shaky. “I won’t let you hurt Mosskit and Stonekit!”
Bluefur slid out her claws, ready to defend her kits when Thrushpelt barreled into Tigerclaw, knocking the dark tabby tom over. Thistlestar let out a battle cry and launched himself off the highrock when a flash of blue fur intercepted him. Stormtail stood over the leader, panting heavily, as if the sickness that plagued him had temporarily disappeared. “I will not let you harm those kits!” The old tom snapped.
Whitestorm looked too stunned to move, and Adderfang’s eyes were wide.
“Run Bluefur!” Stormtail yowled as Thistlestar got up.
Bluefur nodded and picked up Stonekit, and to her surprise Spottedpaw had scooped up Mosskit. The two of them raced out of camp with Mistykit, the strongest of the three, following them. Bluefur winced as she heard the dying screams of Thrushpelt and Stormtail, as well as Dappletail’s grief stricken wail.
Bluefur had raced to the stepping stones and was carefully making her way across with Stonekit and Mistykit riding on her back, their little claws digging into her fur.
Mistykit let out a shrill mew. “Look! A RiverClan patrol!” She was pointing to a group of cats who were racing along the border.
“What are you doing here?” A silver tom growled, Bluefur remembered his name was Rippleclaw.
“I- it’s Thistlestar! He’s going to kill my kits, please bring me to-” She let out a relieved gasp when she saw the other two cats in the patrol padding forward. “Oakheart! Crookedjaw!”
“Bluefur!” Oakheart rushed forward. “What’s going on?”
“She says Thistlestar wants to kill her kits.” Rippleclaw hissed.
“Please, Oakheart take me to camp- my- our kits need to be safe.”
Rippleclaw and Crookedjaw narrowed their eyes. “ Our kits?” They both mewed, Rippleclaw’s voice sounded confused and shocked, but Crookedjaw sounded as if he had finally understood something that he didn’t before.
“Yes. Bluefur is my mate.” Oakheart mewed. “But there’s no time to explain now, we need to get to camp.”
Crookedjaw nodded. “Follow me.”
Bluefur sat in the clearing, flicking her tail patiently, Crookedjaw was speaking to Hailstar in the leader’s den about her and the kits. She looked down to her little ones, who were gazing around the RiverClan camp curiously.
“Are you my papa?” Stonekit squeaked, staring up at Oakheart with massive blue eyes.
“Yes, dear.” Bluefur mewed. “This is your father, Oakheart.”
Oakheart beamed down at the kits, a smile on his handsome face. “Hello little ones.” He purred
Mistykit pounced on his paws and Mosskit stared up at her father with amazement. But their playing was interrupted by Hailstar’s call.
“All cats old enough to swim gather here for a clan meeting!”
“Am I old enough to swim?” Stonekit asked, but Oakheart shushed him.
“I have spoked to Crookedjaw, and we have decided to let Bluefur and her kits stay!” The RiverClan leader announced.
“But what about Spottedpaw?” Mistykit mewed.
“Hush!” Bluefur hissed quietly, placing her tail over her daughter’s mouth.
“She may stay as well, it wouldn’t be wise to let her return to ThunderClan.” Hailstar responded, nodding to the little kit.
“But they’ve broken the code!” A voice rang out. “Oakheart betrayed his clan!” A spotted golden molly had jumped to her paws, her tail lashing.
“Quiet, Leopardfur!” Crookedjaw snapped. “They may have broken the warrior code, but they did it for love. Their crime is nothing compared to the atrocity Thistlestar committed today.”
Murmurs of agreement rippled throughout the RiverClan cats, and Leopardfur sat back down, dipping her head. “You’re right, I’m sorry.”
“I will confront Thistlestar about this at tonight’s gathering.” Hailstar lashed his tail. “He will not get away with what he’s done.”
Chapter 3: Chapter 2

Oakheart padded forth and sat down in the clearing, his pelt bristling as he felt the eyes of ThunderClan cats on him, one of them padded forward, a large white tom with amber eyes, his gaze full of regret.
“Did Bluefur arrive in RiverClan safely?” He asked, his voice soft.
Oakheart nodded. “Yes, the kits are safe too. As is Spottedpaw, they stayed in camp tonight.”
The tom dipped his head. “Thank you. When you get home…” His voice dropped to a whisper. “Tell Bluefur I’m sorry for not stopping my father.”
Oakheart rested his tail on the young cat’s shoulder. “I will, Whitestorm.”
“Let’s begin the gathering.” Thistlestar snarled. “I have an important announcement. Two dangerous traitors are roaming the forest as we speak. Bluefur and Spottedpaw have left the clans after a failed attempt to kill me.”
“That’s not what I heard.” Hailstar mewed. “Bluefur and Spottedpaw told me you tried to have kits killed, just because Oakheart is their father. And you murdered Stormtail and Thrushpelt for not agreeing with this.”
Thistlestar looked like he was about to leap at Hailstar, but his deputy, Adderfang, shot him a glance. “So you’ve fallen for their tricks, Hailstar. No surprise that such an old cat would believe blatant lies.”
Another voice rang out across the gathered cats “You’re the liar! Murderer!” A black ShadowClan apprentice was standing up, his ears pinned back and his tail lashing angrily.
“Quiet, Nightpaw!” The deputy, Foxheart snapped.
“You can fight after the gathering.” Heatherstar huffed. “This is not a place for your squabbles.”
“I suppose.” Thistlestar mewed. “ThunderClan has two new warriors, Willowpelt and Redtail.”
“Willowpelt! Redtail!” The calls sounded from all four clans.
“And, Dappletail is expecting kits.”
Oakheart’s eyes widened. Dappletail… but her mate is… He looked over to the ThunderClan queen, who had her head low with sadness. Stormtail…

Bluefur had made her own nest in the Nursery, next to Greypool’s and had left her kits to play with the queen when one of the elders called her over. “What do you need, Shellheart?”
“Just to talk.” The old tom mewed, smiling. “Oakheart and Crookedjaw are my kits.”
Bluefur shuffled her paws. “Yes.” She was wondering what Shellheart wanted to speak to her about. Did he not approve of her and Oakheart’s relationship?
“I just wanted to say…” Shellheart’s tone was warm. “That I am glad you and Oakheart have found love. And I am proud to call you my kin.”
Bluefur was about to respond, but a shrill wail from the nursery cut her off. “Help! Help!” It was Mosskit.
Bluefur rushed over to her daughter, eyes wide with concern. “What’s happening?” She asked
“It’s Greypool!” Stonekit mewed.
“I think she’s giving birth!” Mistykit’s fur was bushed out.
Spottedpaw raced over and began to inspect the queen. “She is. Bluefur, go fetch a stick for her.”
Bluefur nodded and raced off into the unfamiliar RiverClan territory, she rushed to the base of a tree and began to search, but no sticks had fallen onto the ground. She began to climb up, her claws digging into the bark, she reached out for a sturdy branch and began to pull on it. When that didn’t work she grasped it with her jaws and yanked it, she heard a loud crack as the branch broke off of the tree. She dropped down and raced back to give it to Spottedpaw.
Spottedpaw took it and placed it in Greypool’s mouth. “Bite down on this. Hard.” She ordered.
Bluefur stepped out of the den with the kits, her help not needed anymore.
As Hailstar and the rest of the RiverClan cats padded into camp, Bluefur rushed to find Rippleclaw. “Greypool’s had her kits.” She mewed, and Rippleclaw raced over to the nursery. Bluefur followed and looked in, there were three little kits laying at Greypool’s belly.
“Two mollies and a tom.” Spottedpaw reported.
“Would you like to name one? I’ve already named Morningkit.” She licked one of the mollies heads.
Rippleclaw nodded. “Swankit.” He purred, pointing with his tail to another one of the kits. She was the spitting image of him.
“Can I name one?” Mistykit asked, bounding over.
“Of course.” Greypool purred.
Mistykit let out a squeal of delight and looked at a little dark grey tom with light flecks. “Splashkit.” She mewed.
Mudfur stepped into the den. “Did I hear your kits were born?” He mewed
Greypool nodded. “Yes. Spottedpaw helped me. She’s a great medicine cat.”
Mudfur looked over to the tortoiseshell. “Could I speak to you for a second?”
Spottedpaw nodded nervously and followed him to the medicine den.
As the sun rose and Bluefur blinked awake, she heard an excited voice calling her name.
“Bluefur! Bluefur!” Spottedpaw mewed, skidding to a halt in the nursery. “Mudfur asked me to be his apprentice!”
“That’s great!” Bluefur purred, smiling warmly.
“Yeah… but I miss Redtail and Willowpelt…” Spottedpaw lowered her head sadly.
Bluefur looked at her sadly and sighed. “I miss my kin in ThunderClan too.” She mewed, laying her tail on Spottedpaw’s shoulder. “It's going to be okay. I promise.”
Chapter 5: Chapter 4
Chapter Text
“Mistypaw! Stonepaw! Mosspaw!” Bluefur yowled the names of her kits alongside her clanmates, her little ones were finally apprentices! She had nearly started crying as they touched noses with Echomist, Softwing, and Willowbreeze. But the happy moment was interrupted as Spottedleaf crashed into the clearing.
“Thistlestar is at Sunningrocks! It looks like he’s brought nearly all of ThunderClan!” She mewed quickly, panting.
Hailstar jumped to attention. “RiverClan! We must defend our borders!” He called, then raced out of the camp.
Bluefur followed her leader, not sure if she was ready to fight her old friends, but this was a chance to finally confront Thistlestar and Tigerclaw. Mistypaw, Stonepaw, and Mosspaw raced alongside her. She was so proud of her little warriors, but she was also scared of what might happen to them in this battle.
Hailstar’s yowl broke into her thoughts. “Thistlestar! How dare you!” He snarled
“How dare I ?” Thistlestar’s words were filled with malice. “ You shouldn’t even be here. Sunningrocks is ThunderClan territory!”
“Over my dead body.” Hailstar hissed. “RiverClan! Attack!”
At the leader’s command, Bluefur leapt into battle, she barreled into a grey ThunderClan cat, knocking the smaller warrior off their paws.
“Bluefur! Wait!”
Bluefur flinched and stopped. “Rosetail…” She stared down at her friend. “I’m sorry. We’re enemies now.” She mewed, slashing her claws over Rosetail’s muzzle.
Rosetail shrieked with pain and dashed off, Bluefur watched her go sadly. It felt wrong, but she had to fight ThunderClan. For her kits. Shelooked around at the chaos, Stonepaw was tussling with Runningpaw, and Mistypaw was locked in battle with Redtail. She felt proud of her kits for fighting so hard, but one was missing. Where is Mosspaw? She scanned the crowd of battling warriors for the grey and white apprentice, she froze when she saw her.
“Mange-pelt!” Her daughter hissed, swiping at her enemy.
No! Bluefur thought, an icy chill of fear creeping throughout her body. Mosspaw was fighting Thistlestar.
The ThunderClan leader slashed his claws over Mosspaw’s face, his eyes gleaming. Was that monster enjoying fighting an apprentice? Bluefur’s terror was replaced with a blazing rage as Thistlestar’s claws dug into Mosspaw’s throat. “NO!” She dashed at him, but she was too late. A small squeak of fear escaped the young cat’s mouth, but was soon cut off and she lay limp. Mosspaw was dead.
Thistlestar looked over to her, his eyes sparkling. “I’m going to make sure you lose everything, traitor.” He hissed, voice cold.
“What have you done?” Whitestorm’s voice was shaky as he stared down at the body. “Thistlestar… what have you done?”
Gasps of shock and horror rung out through sunningrocks. The cats had stopped fighting, they were all staring at Mosspaw’s body. A new apprentice was dead. The leader of ThunderClan had murdered her.
“You filthy, crow-food eating fox!” Hailstar snarled. “How dare you!”
Thistlestar looked over to him, his head cocking to the side. “What was it you said earlier, Hailstar?” He mewed cooly, flexing his claws. “That Sunningrocks will be ThunderClan territory over your dead body?”
The ThunderClan leader flicked his tail, and a gut-wrenching ripping sound cut through the brief eerie silence. Hailstar fell limp, blood pouring out of a massive gash going from his neck to his belly. Tigerclaw was standing over his body, one of his front paws caked with the old tom’s blood. “This battle is over.” He declared.
“RiverClan! Retreat!” Crookedjaw gasped. “Retreat!”
Bluefur stood numb for a second, but soon followed her clanmates back home.
Chapter 6: Epilogue
Chapter Text
Stonepaw stood silent vigil for his sister, he looked up at the stars. I hope you’re happy in StarClan, Mosspaw. He thought, forcing himself to not wail with pain. One star shone brighter than any others. Is that you, Mosspaw? He wondered.
Soon, as the sun rose, Stonepaw turned around. The vigil was over, and he was tired. He paid no mind to his clanmates talking to him, he didn’t want to hear it right now. He slunk down in his nest and placed his head on his paws, soon drifting off into sleep. He expected to dream of his sister, he wanted to see her again. But no, instead he was in a forest, one he didn’t recognize. There was a thick eerie fog hanging in the air, and mushrooms were growing at the base of a large tree. He heard a twig snap behind him and whipped around.
“Who’s there?”
“No need to worry, little one.” A voice mewed, he saw a cat standing there. A tortoiseshell and white molly with gleaming amber eyes
“Who are you?” He asked, stepping back.
“I am Mapleshade. And really, there is nothing to fear. I’m here to help you.” She mewed soothingly.
“Help me?” Stonepaw didn’t understand, what could she possibly help him with? Was this dream cat even real? Was she a StarClan cat? If this is StarClan, I don’t ever want to die.
“Yes. ThunderClan… they killed your sister. Don’t you want to pay them back for their crime?” Mapleshade mewed. “Don’t you want… revenge ?”
Stonepaw stared up at her, then he unsheathed his claws. “Yes. I do.” He snarled
