Chapter Text
With the rising of the sun, another morning dawned on the Hashira House. The Wind Pillar brewed coffee for himself first, then the others. The Love and Flame Pillars prepared a delicious breakfast for everyone, and the Stone Pillar said his morning prayers. However, there was one happening this morning that none of the hashira would’ve expected…
“Good Morning, Everyone!” Muichiro Tokito chimed as he walked up the stairs.
“Good Morning, Tokito!” Kyojuro Rengoku waved, happily tearing into his omlette with wreckless abandon.
“Morning kid..” Obanai Iguro bowed his head, slipping a bite of granola bar under his mask.
“Woah, you’re up early!” Mitsuri Kanroji noted, her cheeks stuffed with waffles, syrup, and whipped cream.
“I guess so, yeah!” Muichiro chimed, sitting beside the Flame Pillar.
“What’s this?” Tengen Uzui gasped, setting down his eyeliner. “Is the Mist Pillar joining us normal people for breakfast??”
“Well someone’s gotta make sure you aren’t *too* out of touch!” Muichiro fired back.
“Oh snap.” Giyu Tomioka stated flatly, rubbing sleep from his eyes.
“Heh, good one.” Sanemi Shinazugawa commented, setting coffee out for the Flame and Stone Pillars. However, as Tomioka reached out for an extra mug, Sanemi hurried away from him before he could get it.
“What’s got you in such a good mood?” Shinobu Kocho asked, taking the extra mug from Sanemi and pushing it over to Tomioka.
Indeed, the Mist Pillar had a different air about him than usual. His dull, blank expression was gone--he was wide eyed and optimistic! From his sparkling gaze, to his soft smile, Tokito was different. However, at Lady Kocho’s question, Muichiro seemed to shy away. A Rosy flush crossed his face, and he averted his gaze to the nearest floorboard.
“Well…”
“Well?” Obanai raised his brow as he looked at the Mist Pillar.
“I have a…”
“You have a…?” Kyojuro parroted, not looking away from his plate.
As if stars were aligning, Sanemi had taken a seat across from Muichiro, and the Stone Pillar made his way back inside after his morning prayers.
“Oh! Good Morning Lord Tokito, how are y--”
“I-I have a date.” Muichiro stammered.
“He has a date!” Kyojuro Rengoku exclaimed. There was about ten seconds of silence at the table as the words set in for everyone. Kyojuro’s eyes shortly widened, and a grin crept over his face,“Wait, WHAT?!”
“Oh Mui!~” Mitsuri gasped excitedly.
“Nice going kiddo!” Tengen cheered.
“Who’s the lucky lady??” Obanai asked, patting his shoulder.
“Uh…” Muichiro swallowed nervously, glancing around the table for a moment.
Everyone’s interest seemed peeked. Even Sanemi, who normally didn’t make eye contact with anyone till noon was looking his way.
“Who’s the lucky lady?” Gyomei asked, shortly sipping a large glass of orange juice.
“Uh…it’s Genya…”
Immediately, Gyomei spat out his juice, and Sanemi’s already sharp gaze cut into Muichiro like a nichirin blade. In any other circumstance, this name would’ve been an enigma to all but two of the Hashira. However, in their time living together, Sanemi had been opening up more.
“Hang on, Genya as in…?” Shinobu’s eyes darted between Muichiro and Sanemi.
“Y-yeah. Lord Shinazugawa’s brother.”
Giyu, who was normally silent at this time, spoke up,“...Muichiro, are you telling us that--”
“Mhm. I’m…I’m gay.”
There was another long pause, before Mitsuri left her seat and ran upstairs. It was as Tokito feared, it seemed. He loved the Hashira, they were like a family to him! But, even for all the support they’d given, he was worried how they would react (especially Sanemi). He didn’t want that to change!
“...Well that’s great!” Kyojuro beamed.
“That Flashy Kid with the Mohawk?!” Tengen chuckled. “Great Score kid!”
“HEY!” Sanemi whacked Tengen’s head. “Don’t call my brother a score!”
Everyone immediately fell silent. Many of the Hashira had an unspoken belief that if any of them was close minded, it would probably be Sanemi. So, they prepared to defend Tokito, and detest whatever he said next.
“And you,” Sanemi pointed to Muichiro. “You break his heart, I’ll break your spine.”
“...huh?” Shinobu’s worried expression cracked.
“Besides, he already texted me about it a few nights ago.”
“He…he did?” Muichiro asked. “So, you’re…we’re cool?”
“Yeah, we’re cool.” Sanemi nodded, sipping more coffee.
“I’M COMING!!” Mitsuri shouted, before loudly crashing down the stairs, a boulder of clothing following her. She quickly got back up, hurrying over with everything. “Sorry! I got a bunch of really great outfits together! I got some old suits Obi doesn’t wear often, and…”
“Wait what??” Obanai looked to her.
As Mitsuri went on and on, Muichiro couldn’t help but to laugh. Of course they would be supportive, he was silly to think otherwise. “Okay okay, we’ll look at outfits after breakfast, alright?”
“EEE! Okay okay!”
“You want any make up kid? I got my whole kit out!” Tengen jested.
“Just because he’s gay doesn’t mean he’s effeminate!’ Obanai puffed.
As the Hashira spoke supportively and excitedly about the news, Gyomei silently sat with his silverware. Genya…was a homosexual??
