Work Text:
A soft whistle of the wind chimes rang out as Senku stepped into the quaint cafe. His nose crinkled for a second as he took in the bitter, earthy smell of the brewing coffee. It was never really something he enjoyed drinking, having preferred to get an energy drink. He shook his head, brushing off his notions about said coffee. It's not like he was here for it anyway.
Senku's eyes scanned across the room, spotting you in the corner enjoying a cup filled with what seemed to be some hot chocolate. You give him a big smile and a wave, gesturing for him to come over as soon as the two of you locked your eyes onto each other. A subtle smile made its way onto his lips, quickly making his way to sit next to you.
"What took you so long?" You jokingly asked in a scolding manner as Senku settled into his seat.
"I was busy." He sighed, rolling his eyes. "Be grateful that I even took up your offer to meet here, and for catching up of all things..."
You just let out a small laugh in response, taking another sip of your drink. "Yeah, sure. Busy with that rocket still, huh?"
The boy nods, turning his gaze back to you. "I've been emailing with that guy from NASA again, and.."
"He needs you to buy another super expensive science thing, doesn't he?"
"You read my mind," he snickered. "Ten billion points for you."
"I'm sure your dad doesn't mind lending you that one card again.." you snickered along with him.
"Probably," he shrugged it off, as if it was something so casual to him."So what's with you?"
"I'm trying to read up a bit on those rocket science books you left with me.. I really don't get how all of it sticks in your brain, Senku," you whined. "I really have to take my time when reading since I have to use my phone to search up what every single term means… and even then, it still doesn't make any sense."
Senku leaned towards you, his brows now furrowed. "Idiot, why are you actually reading them? I only left them with you because I had no space in my bag left to bring it home that day.." He sighed.
You leaned back, facing away from him. "I don't know, I suppose to have an excuse to talk to you more.."
You stare at each other with a blank expression, your cheeks growing the a faint tint of red.
Why couldn't you have left that sentence unsaid?
Senku didn't seem to notice the blush that was forming on your face, just scoffing at the sentence you said. You wondered to yourself if he had ignored the implications of what you said on purpose, or if he was truly that dense. It was hard to tell.
"An excuse to talk to me more? Don't you already talk too much as it is?" He teased, his lips now curving to form a smirk.
"Oh, I talk too much? Says the guy who somehow finds a way to bring up science in every conversation," you retorted, leaning closer to him. Although it seemed like you were trying to pick a fight, you were secretly relieved to know that you've avoided the embarrassing consequences of earlier.
"We talk too much, then," he corrected himself, his irritation with you starting to grow.
"Maybe I should find a way to shut you up," he muttered under his breath as he gave you a sharp glare.
Without thinking, you quickly whispered. "Why dont you?"
And there it was again, your mouth running off to say ridiculous things without you even thinking twice.
Both of you barely had any distance between you now, the only thing separating you being the small coffee table that held your drink. Despite the amount of people chattering in the cafe, all you could hear right now was the sound of your heart thumping in your chest.
He places the tips of his fingers under your chin, lifting your face up to better inspect your expression.
Your face was flushed now, and you couldn't help it. It was hard to not feel vulnerable as you watched him examine your features. You close your eyes, not sure what to expect.
Senku closed the distance between the two of you, pulling you in for a kiss. Your noses brushed against each other for a moment as he softly pressed his lips onto yours. He was very gentle, and the kiss ended as quickly as it happened.
"Stay cool, it's just a kiss," you thought to yourself in a failing attempt to calm down, your eyes now finally opening as he pulled away.
Senku looked away from you before you even spoke, a bit flustered that he ended up being the one to take the initiative. He never thought that he would be the one to make the first move, let alone a more physical one.
"What'd you do that for?" You blurt out, desperately trying to process what had just happened.
"To shut you up." He crossed his arms. "Why do you gotta be so talkative?"
"It's human nature," you protested. "Not like you'd know though, you're like a robot.."
"Sure, sure. We could blame it on that," he scoffed. Despite how he talked, it was clear to anyone how he held a sort of affection to you.
You reached out for your cup of hot chocolate now, taking a quick sip. It was a rare sight to see Senku flustered like this, and it endeared you so. Both of you ended up brushing the whole encounter off, spending the rest of your time together chatting about other things. Maybe you two would properly confront each other about it another time.. But right now? Things were better left unsaid.
