You tug at the edge of your dress, trying to smooth the invisible wrinkles that aren’t really there. The room feels too hot, too bright, the laughter too loud. Your eyes sting, though you tell yourself it’s from the champagne.
They look perfect together.
And for a fleeting—traitorous second, you wish you were her.
Or: a corporate gala brings unspoken feelings to the surface between you and your childhood best friend—one of the biggest heroes SDN has ever seen. Coupled with just enough jealousy, pride, and angst to make the end a little bit sweeter :) Set post-canon, if everyone survives and Robert gets Mecha Man back.
