Chapter Text
He’s never seen them look so…casual.
Midoriya stood there for a moment, taking in how the three looked in just normal people's clothes. Dynamight was wearing a tank top and joggers, Hero Shoto was wearing a black t-shirt and some dark gray sweatpants, and Red Riot was wearing a pink t-shirt with some black shorts.
Come to think of it, Midoriya’s pretty sure that he hasn’t actually been this close to these three. Normally he’d work behind the scenes. He would fill out their paperwork, make sure they had their coffee and such on their desks each morning, and deal with bringing their costumes to the support department when they needed fixing…. You know, all that stuff and other little errands. It sounded like and was a lot; when Midoriya was offered the position he fully expected only to be in charge of one pro hero, but instead they dumped three of them onto him. Pro Hero Shoto and Dynamight’s personal assistants had quit and were fired respectively.
So Midoriya offered to fill in those positions as well, if only for maybe a little extra money in his wallet. But what did he expect? For them to pay him like an actual person? He’s sure he would have if he were anyone else, but being a male omega didn’t help his case. Thank the stars his company didn’t know about his quirklessness. Otherwise his job would’ve been gone before he could start it.
And sure, maybe he was a little intimidated by these three; he knew that they were prime alphas or enigmas of some sort… He wasn’t sure which because that information was under wraps, but he knew that their statuses were nothing to joke about. And he knew because of that knowledge, people in general didn’t want to apply to be their assistants right away. Okay, well the smarter people; there were some fans that wanted to for obvious reasons, but they were rejected right away.
That was another thing Midoriya would have to deal with as soon as he was done here. He would have to make sure he sorted through their fan mail and checked their emails.
Now, home visits weren’t something that Midoriya made often in order to respect their privacy, but this was kind of necessary. The three heroes had just gotten back from a mission and apparently it was very taxing. So much so that they were given orders to just stay at home and rest for a little while. Given that, Midoriya fetched their things from their offices that he knew they would need or want and came to drop them off along with some food.
He was just about ready to head back out of the house, seeing as though he didn’t want to make any noise to disturb the sleeping heroes on the couch. He looked down and messed with his slightly-tight button down. Ah. Another thing on his list, new clothes. Unfortunately he had been growing out of them because of his diet since he’s been working as their assistant. Least to say it wasn’t good, and he’s gotten a little further on the chubby side than he liked.
Midoriya brought his attention back to the post-it note, scrunching his nose at the feeling of the mask over his nose. He only wore it because he thought it would only be fair for him to wear one since he was going to a place where the others’ scents were exposed. He figured that since they wore patches, it was likely that they didn’t want other people to smell their scents.
‘Here are some of your things from the office. Food is in the fridge.’
He didn’t bother to sign it before he left. He already assumed the three knew who it was from.
But maybe he was a bit too bold to assume things.
The second time he had to visit was when he was actually requested to.
Red Riot reached out and asked if he would be able to drop something off for him. And Midoriya assumed that he was busy, so he just left the items in front of the hero’s doorstep when he got there and left afterwards. He didn’t think anything of it, but he grew a little confused when the other replied to his message that let him know that he left what he needed in front of his door.
‘Oh thank you.’
Midoriya frowned at the message. The red haired hero was usually so upbeat. Was there something wrong with the items Midoriya got? He’s pretty sure that he got everything that he needed down to the type of brand that he used.
‘Is there something wrong? If I got the wrong items, please let me know so that I can resolve that issue as soon as possible.’
Midoriya looked up while he waited for a response, navigating around the people that littered the streets. Okay, well that’s fine. If Red Riot really needed his items, then Midoriya guessed that he would have to forfeit the nap that he was able to cram into his schedule. Maybe it was better if he didn’t take a nap. No matter how much his body ached or how fatigued he was, he still had a lot to do.
‘No no! Don’t trouble yourself! I just got distracted with something.’
Midoriya sighed in relief at the message, a little happy that he got the right things. Though his happiness was short-lived when he got a notification on his phone that reminded him that he had a meeting to attend. Right! How could he forget! He was supposed to attend a meeting regarding a mission that the three would be carrying out soon. Now as their assistant, he was only required to take notes on the mission in general, but since he got carried away most of the time, he ended up doing research on the villains and their quirks and jotting down different ideas and strategies to take them down before sending them over to someone else so that they could approve it. Once it was approved then it would go over to the other three.
‘No worries. Just make sure to let me know if you do need something. If there is any way that I can help, please reach out.’
He pocketed his phone, thinking that was the end of the conversation. He kept himself busy on the train ride there with gathering his notes and such. His mind was scattered and jumbled as everything that he needed to do for the week was laid out before him. Somewhere in his mind screamed for the chance to have a break. And for a split second, his omega emerged and asked (Nest…?). The tiny whisper left Midoriya rigid for a second. He only paused for a second during his notetaking before he reassured himself that he would just take his suppressants when he arrived at the agency. Right now he needed to focus.
In the end, he never did see the message Red Riot sent him.
“Would you be able to drop off the paperwork for the damages from the villain fight? I need to fill those out. I’m at my office.”
Pro Hero Shoto preferred to call over text, which Midoriya didn’t mind too much.
“I already have those completed for you. They should be in your top right drawer in a folder. I included the specific information as well since I was able to review the footage. I wanted you to look over it in case of any errors on my end,” Midoriya managed to say. He was only half distracted, almost accidentally slipping up in his speech. He always tried to be formal and professional since it was his job. He tried to be as brief and to the point as he could so as not to waste the others’ time.
Plus, he almost passed up the aisle that had one of the ingredients that Dynamight requested he picked up. After he dropped them off at the house, then he would have to stop by his apartment to grab something that he forgot to grab…yesterday, was it? He couldn’t even remember the last time he’s been back at his apartment, much less the last time he’s seen his bed.
“That’s not your job,” the hero spoke on the other line. Something unpleasant rose to the omega’s throat at the sound of that, hearing the disapproval in the other’s voice.
“I apologize,” Midoriya spoke into his phone, trying to distract himself by picking out the ingredients that he needed, “I overstepped.” Shuffling of the papers caught his ears and Midoriya felt uneasy. A lump formed in his throat when silence followed. He tossed something into his cart before he spoke again, “I’ll-” He had to stop himself and take a breath when his voice cracked from nervousness, “I’ll be sure to keep that in mind for next time.”
“No,” the other said, pausing for a second as papers shuffled around again, “It’s just that normally when this is done by someone else, it’s wrong and it’s just more trouble than if they just didn’t do it but…this is done…very well.” Midoriya smiled and tried to recompose himself to give a response, but the hero continued, “Did you consult anyone else when you did this?”
“No. Though I will make sure to run it by someone beforehand if you would want me to for future reference.”
“You really don’t have to. You only have to do this type of thing if you really have time on your schedule for it. I know that you already handle other paperwork and other things, but if it’s no trouble to you, then feel free to do this again.”
Midoriya ended the call shortly after, but he couldn’t help it when a smile was on his face after the call from the compliment on his work. Giddiness was his fuel for getting through the rest of the day.
‘Oi where's my costume?’
Midoriya knew how blunt Dynamight could be, and how he liked to get his information quickly, so Midoriya didn’t hesitate when sending him a quick couple of texts.
‘Top shelf of your locker.’
‘I had to drop it off at the support department and get it patched up. I apologize for leaving it in the state it was. I’ll put it in its proper place next time.’
He didn’t receive a reply from Dynamight, which he knew was because he had patrol soon based on the time. Midoriya was just on his way to drop off paperwork for both Pro Hero Shoto and Red Riot, but something stopped him in his tracks. The only reason why he was even walking was because he missed the train, and he found out that maybe doing that wasn’t such a good idea, and that maybe he should’ve waited the extra fifteen minutes for the next train to arrive.
The cries of a child sounded, and obviously he couldn’t ignore something like that, especially with the sun going down soon. The closer he got, the more he heard. Shouting of two adults was what he heard, and the baby’s cries got louder. It sounded like a couple’s dispute over the baby, and while Midoriya wanted to help, he knew he couldn’t really do anything about peoples’ personal life, so he turned to leave.
But his foot crunched on a water bottle on the ground, which was all it took for one of the people to be on guard. And soon enough, Midoriya felt a pain stab through the back of his calf.
“Shit!”
“What the fuck are you doing? You could’ve at least waited to see who it was before you used your damn quirk!” At the sound of the guy’s shouting, the baby started crying louder. Midoriya had since fallen onto the ground, the paperwork he’d spent an hour organizing was splayed on the ground on impact.
“Well how was I gonna know that it was gonna be some random ass guy? It could’ve been a thief or something and been stabbed to death!” Rapid footsteps followed, and the sound of the baby’s cry started to get faint as the couple presumably ran away from the scene.
The omega could only try to get himself up, but the ache in his leg was all too much, so all he could do was lay there until the pain was dull enough to get up.
