Luis’ favorite part of his day is when the sun finally sets, and he and Leon can finally just relax. Evenings with Leon are quite possible the best things on Earth, and Luis doesn’t think this lightly. He loves their small, cozy apartment that feels more lived in now than ever before (thanks to Luis’ decoration skills and general clutter). He loves how Leon immediately relaxes as soon as he steps through the front door and catches sight of him. He loves how in just a few quick strides, Leon snatches him into his arms and greets him with a kiss.
Luis simply loves the domesticity of it all.
Recently, they had picked up a new ritual: watching Gilmore Girls, a show Luis loved and Leon claimed to endure solely for Luis’ sake. Yet, despite Leon’s feigned indifference, Luis caught glimpses of genuine enjoyment in the way Leon would sometimes chuckle at the banter between Lorelai and Rory. It was these subtle moments that made Luis smile when he could pretend there was nothing wrong in the world and it was just him and Leon.
Tonight is no different. Leon came home after running some errands and immediately scooped up Luis who was lounging on the couch with a new book. They made dinner together, with Luis being cheeky and trying to distract Leon at every possible moment with kisses or flirty remarks. Leon pretends to be annoyed, but Luis can see a smile form at every one of his antics.
After dinner, they retreat to their bedroom to continue watching Gilmore Girls. They had been watching episodes back-to-back last night before Luis fell asleep. When he woke up this morning, Leon was still in bed fast asleep and the TV was off. Luis assumes Leon went to sleep not long after him, and he’s excited to continue watching. He tosses himself on the bed while Leon hesitantly puts in the DVD. Luis already has a hold of the remote and quickly scrolls down to the episode he knows they left off on, a wide, ecstatic smile on his face as Leon joins him in bed.
Luis’ smile vanishes and twists into a look of confusion when the episode starts off in the middle of a scene. He grabs the remote and clicks rewind only to see the episode is already near the end. He begins muttering under his breath ‘estúpida televisión’ . He doesn’t even consider that perhaps neither the TV or the DVD are to blame until he turns to look at his boyfriend beside him who has the guiltiest expression he’s ever seen him have.
Luis frowns as he slowly calls out his boyfriend’s name, “Leon…why is this episode almost fully watched when we haven’t even seen it together yet?”
Leon looks anywhere but Luis’ direction as he shrugs. “The DVD player must’ve accidentally skipped ahead.”
“Mhm,” Luis hums, sounding entirely unconvinced. “I’m sure that’s why you look like a dog who got caught ripping up the furniture?”
Leon finally looks at him and his lips twitch into a playful smile. “Comparing me to a dog? Wow, Luis. That’s so mean.”
“No cambies la conversación,” Luis scolds. “Did you watch the episode without me?”
The smile on Leon’s face dissipates as he sighs. “I’m sorry, baby,” he apologizes. “It’s just…you had fallen asleep last night and the plot was getting good. I couldn’t help myself.”
Luis crosses his arms and humphs. “Go to the living room,” he commands.
Leon blinks in confusion. “What? Why?”
“You’re on time out until I finish watching this episode by myself since somebody already decided to watch it without me.”
Leon groans. “It was just one episode!” he protests.
Luis raises an eyebrow. “You told me you didn’t even like Gilmore Girls!”
Leon opens his mouth to argue but then closes it, knowing he’s been caught. “Fine, fine,” he grumbles, getting up from the bed. “But don’t blame me if you end up wanting to discuss all the juicy details and I’m not there to listen.”
Luis smirks, turning back to the TV. “I’ll manage. Now go, and think about what you’ve done.”
Leon heads to the living room, but not before giving Luis a dramatic, over-the-shoulder glance as if to see if Luis was truly serious about putting him in timeout. Luis just looks at him with a raised eyebrow and shoos him away with a wave of his hand. Leon finally exits the bedroom, grumbling as he heads to the living room. “This is so unfair…”
“Next time, wait for me!” Luis calls after him, unable to keep the laughter out of his voice.
Luis settles back down to watch the episode, but his thoughts keep drifting back to Leon. He tries to focus on the show but finds himself distracted by a torrent of thoughts. He thinks about how Leon never puts the cap back on the toothpaste, a pet peeve that drives him crazy every morning. Then there’s how Leon never changes out the toilet paper roll, leaving Luis to discover an empty holder at the most inconvenient times. There are also the splashes of water Leon leaves around the sink without cleaning up and how he always finishes Luis’ favorite snacks, leaving just the empty packaging behind.
Luis stops himself with a laugh, realizing how trivial all these annoyances are in the grand scheme of things. Despite all of Leon’s little quirks and habits, Luis loves him with his entire being. Leon’s playful smile, his ridiculous jokes, the way he genuinely cares about the people around him—these are the things that matter. The realization softens Luis’ heart, and he knows he can’t really stay mad at Leon.
As the episode draws to a close, Luis hears a soft knock. He sees a shadow under the crack of the door. He gets up from the bed but waits there, listening.
“Luis?” Leon calls out softly. No response.
“Baby?” Leon tries again. Still no response.
There’s a brief pause before Leon says, “Lulu?” in the sweetest, most apologetic voice Luis has ever heard.
Luis can’t help but smile. He walks over and opens the door. Leon stands there with an apologetic look on his face, holding a bowl of popcorn.
Luis crosses his arms, pretending to be stern. “What is it, Leon?”
Leon’s face lights up with a hopeful smile. “I brought popcorn as a peace offering. Can I come back in now?”
Luis chuckles and steps aside, letting Leon back into the room. “You’re forgiven. But next time, we'll watch it together, okay?”
Leon nods eagerly, setting the popcorn on the bed and wrapping his arms around Luis. “Deal. Now, can I please get some cuddles I’ve been so cruelly deprived of?”
A pensive look passes over Luis’ face as he pretends to think about it. He taps his chin with his index finger as Leon stares at him in anticipation of his answer. Finally, Luis smirks at him and points at his lips.
“Only if I get a kiss from my prince charming.”
Without wasting another second, Leon cages Luis’ body on the mattress and begins kissing him in earnest. Luis hums in satisfaction against Leon’s lips, wrapping one arm around his neck and the other going to gently tug on Leon’s hair. Leon groans and bites Luis’ lower lip while one of his somewhat cold hands goes under Luis’ shirt, causing him to shiver involuntarily. Every now and again they draw back to breathe only for Leon to dive back in and capture Luis’ lips in his once more.
It’s not until Luis hears the Gilmore Girls theme song that he shifts his hands to grab Leon’s shoulders, effectively stopping him from coming for another kiss. Luis looks behind Leon at the TV and pouts when he realizes he entirely missed how the episode ends. “We missed part of the episode,” Luis complains.
Leon smiles mischievously and lays on top of Luis, his head resting on Luis' chest. “We can always watch it tomorrow,” he murmurs, nuzzling into Luis' neck.
“Oye, get off of me,” Luis huffs, still feigning annoyance despite the fact he loves it when Leon gets clingy. “You’re crushing me.”
Leon groans theatrically and rolls over, accidentally knocking the bowl of popcorn off the bed. The bowl lands on the floor with a loud clatter, scattering popcorn everywhere. Both of them stare at the mess in silence before Luis slowly turns to look at Leon and asks, “Was that my last packet of popcorn…”
Leon sheepishly nods. “Yes, it was.”
Luis sighs dramatically but can't help the smile tugging at his lips. “Eres imposible, ¿lo sabes?”
Leon grins, leaning in to kiss Luis' cheek. “But you love me anyway.”
“I do,” Luis agrees as he caresses Leon’s hair. He leans in to kiss his nose before pulling back to look Leon in the eyes. “But I’ll love you even more if you clean up your mess.”
“You’re so demanding, you know that?” Leon replies, softly glaring at him, but there’s an unmistakable smile on his face. Nonetheless, Leon gets out of bed and goes to clean up the spilled popcorn. Luis watches him move as he lies on his side, head propped up on the palm of his hand. When Leon bends down to sweep up the popcorn, Luis wolf-whistles. Leon’s head snaps in his direction and he scowls.
“You are incorrigible,” Leon mutters, but there’s a playful glint in his eyes.
“I don’t know the meaning of the word, but I’ll agree only for you, ” Luis replies with a wink.
Leon laughs as he finishes cleaning up the popcorn and straightens up, looking at the now-empty bowl with a sigh. “I guess this means a grocery run tomorrow.”
Luis chuckles, reaching out to grab Leon’s hand and pulling him back onto the bed. “We can go together. I need to stock up on my snacks anyway since you keep eating them all.”
“I’ll get you all the snacks you want,” Leon promises as he snuggles closer to Luis. As usual, Luis tries to make himself the little spoon, but Leon has some resistance to that attempt. “You’re always the little spoon, Luis,” Leon complains. “Ever heard of sharing is caring?”
“I think I get a pass tonight,” Luis declares as he tucks his head under Leon’s chin. “First my boyfriend watches my favorite show without me and then he spills my popcorn? I’m owed reparations.”
“I made out with you,” Leon bluntly states. “That wasn’t enough?”
Luis shifts his position to look at Leon directly. “It was more than enough until you went and spilled popcorn all over our bedroom floor.”
“Fine, you win,” Leon admits defeat rather quickly, as usual. “You can be the little spoon tonight.”
Luis grins triumphantly and snuggles back into Leon’s embrace, feeling perfectly content. “Thank you. I knew you’d see it my way.”
Leon kisses the top of Luis’ head and wraps his arms around him more tightly. “It’s hard not to give in to you when you look like that.”
“Flattery will get you everywhere with me,” Luis mumbles as he begins to doze off. “Buenas noches, Cariño.”
He hears Leon say goodnight as well and he begins to be lulled to sleep by Leon’s heartbeat. They lie there in comfortable silence for a while, enjoying the closeness and warmth of each other. Eventually, Leon speaks up again, his voice soft and thoughtful. “You know, I really am sorry for watching the episode without you. I didn’t mean to upset you.”
Luis tilts his head up to look at Leon and blinks away his sleepiness, his expression gentle. “I know, Sancho. I forgive you. I wasn’t really upset in the first place.” Leon doesn’t look convinced so Luis continues. “Okay, maybe a little that you tried to lie to me about it, but I’m not angry. I love you too much to be mad over something so small.”
“But you’ll tell me if you’re ever actually mad at me, right?” Leon asks, seeking further reassurance.
“I will,” Luis promises before stealing a quick kiss. “As long as you do the same.”
“Of course,” Leon agrees as he nestles closer to Luis. “Goodnight, honey.”
As they lay intertwined, Leon begins to trace gentle patterns on Luis’ back, his touch light and tender. Luis closes his eyes, savoring the sensation, the warmth of Leon beside him, and the reassurance that despite their occasional arguments over the littlest of things, their love remains steadfast. Luis knows that tomorrow, that love will continue to remain…even when Leon inadvertently ends up eating his snacks again (that he claims he doesn’t even like). Truthfully, Luis doesn’t mind. Not when it’s Leon.
