Chapter Text
Lucas left the jail cell regretting his words, he had hoped they would have remembered that their time together would be remembered but the others had looked at him like strangers.
He turned as he walked out suddenly feeling his curse being lifted as he felt a pressure leave him and the pact he made lifted.
He looked around wondering what he should do next as he heard a familiar voice “Hey, you seemed okay in the three days in there would you like a drink sometime”
Lucas smiled looking over at him “That would be nice “ He nodded, hoping he would rebuild the friendship he had found “Tomorrow night, meet me at the Stumble Inn how does that sound “ Lucas suggested he wanted to try and do some research.
Ashen nodded in agreement “See you around.” He said as he reached his hand to the top of his head, still in shock that he was human again.
Lucas headed to the halls of learning, hoping there would be a library that he would be allowed to visit. He needed to see if there was a way to regain their memories or change the wish he granted. As he studied, he learnt of a few spells that may help, modify memory or greater restoration were options but he didn't want to change their memories by force and wasn't sure how greater restoration worked. He soon came upon a spell called share memories, thinking that could be a start. He paused as he sat in the library, the wish had broken his patronage; he wasn't even sure if he still had his magic. He looked around making sure no one was around before trying mage hand to pull a book from a shelf. He breathed a sigh of relief as he worked out he could still use magic meaning he could still learn new spells.
He wrote down the information making notes before looking at a few more books, learning of an old artefact that could see into other timelines, it was a myth and rumoured to be in an abandoned tower. This was exactly what he needed but he didn't know how to get the others to trust him.
He could start with Ashen at the inn tomorrow night.
Lucas headed to a shop to get some components and parchment to write the important spells he needed to learn before heading back to his hideout.
He spent a few hours trying to learn some of the spells focusing on sharing memories before starting to feel drained, realising that learning magic this way was very different than what he was used to.
As he headed to bed, he went to cast his usual spell before bed that kept him young but paused as he realised he was free to grow old his soul was no longer bound. Maybe he could find a way to be happy and live without being in fear of them growing old, and watching everyone die and keep that in his mind before falling asleep.
