Once the flight had flown

With the wilt of the rose

I slept all alone

You still wouldn't go

Eddie never thought the most important relationship in his life would be over. Never thought Buck would really leave, despite Eddie telling him to in the worst fights. Now here he is, at Maddie and Chimney's wedding, watching Buck dance with him . He never thought this was where he’d be. He thought that Buck would be dancing with him.

Three months prior….

Eddie stormed into their newly shared home, the weight of his anger pressing heavily upon him. The door slammed shut behind him with a resounding echo, filling the spacious living room that just days ago had been filled with the promise of their new life together. Buck, amidst the still-open moving boxes, turned towards Eddie, a puzzled expression mingled with concern etched deeply across his features.

"Eddie, what's going on?" Buck's voice wavered slightly, a hint of unease creeping into his tone as he approached cautiously.

Eddie turned to face Buck, his eyes ablaze with a mix of frustration, hurt, and a touch of fear. "You need to leave," Eddie's words were sharp, cutting through the air like a knife, leaving no room for misunderstanding.

Buck's heart sank, confusion clouding his expression as he struggled to comprehend Eddie's sudden demand. "Leave?" Buck repeated, his voice cracking with disbelief. "But... why? What did I do?"

Eddie's jaw tensed, emotions raw and unfiltered as he struggled to articulate the turmoil inside him. "I can't do this, Buck," he said firmly, his tone brooking no argument. "I can't watch you put yourself in danger like that. Not here, not with me. I can’t put Chris through losing another parent"

Buck's eyes widened, a mixture of shock and desperation flooding his features. "Eddie, please," Buck pleaded, his voice wavering. "We just moved in together. We’re happy. We can work through this, I promise."

Eddie shook his head, the weight of his decision settling heavily on his shoulders. "No, Buck," he replied, his voice tinged with sadness. "I thought I could, but I can't. I can’t force myself into this situation where I’m making sure I’m doing everything I can to come home to you and where you just don’t give a shit."

Tears welled up in Buck's eyes, his voice cracking with emotion. "I thought... I thought this was our beginning, you, me, Chris, together as a family," Buck whispered, his words filled with hurt and confusion. "I thought we were finally on the same page."

Eddie's expression softened briefly, pain evident in his eyes as he met Buck's gaze. "So did I," he admitted quietly. "But not like this. I can't risk losing you. I already lost one partner and I can't lose another. Not like this."

Buck took a shaky step closer, reaching out tentatively towards Eddie, but Eddie stepped back, his resolve hardening. "Don't," Eddie said firmly, his voice tinged with finality. "Just go. Take your shit and get out.”

Silence enveloped them, thick and suffocating, broken only by the faint sound of Buck's heavy breaths. He stood there, his heart breaking into pieces as he struggled to process the sudden unraveling of their dreams.

"I love you so much, Baby," Buck finally managed to say, his voice trembling with sorrow. "But if this is what you want..."

Eddie turned away, unable to bear the anguish in Buck's eyes. "It is," he replied hoarsely, the words catching in his throat.

With one last pained look at Eddie, Buck turned and walked out of the apartment. The sound of his footsteps echoed in the empty space, leaving behind a void that seemed to swallow Eddie whole.

Alone in the suffocating silence, Eddie sank to the floor, his body trembling with grief and regret. Tears streamed down his face as he realized the magnitude of what he had just done. He lost the one person who he always thought would be there.

Maddie and Chimney’s wedding was a small backyard celebration, brimming with love and the promise of forever. Eddie stood amidst the joyous guests, but his smile was strained, concealing the jealousy that churned within him as he watched his friends exchange vows. Happiness filled the air, but underneath Eddie's facade, a storm of emotions brewed.

Across the room, Eddie's eyes landed on Buck, who stood beside Tommy, their hands intertwined and their smiles filled with affection. A pang of jealousy pierced Eddie's heart as he observed them, memories of their past happiness together amplifying his envy. They had only been broken up for 2 months.

Tommy, noticing Eddie's distant and pained expression, approached him with a look that Eddie didn’t understand.

"Eddie, what's with the distant look?" Tommy asked sharply, his voice tinged with possessiveness rather than genuine concern.

Eddie forced a tight-lipped smile, his jaw clenched in an effort to contain his swirling emotions. "Oh, just taking in the festivities," he replied curtly, his gaze involuntarily drifting back towards Buck who was in the middle of a dance with Maddie.

Baby, was it over

When he laid down on your couch?

Was it over when he unbuttoned my blouse?

"Come here, " I whispered in your ear

In your dream as you passed out, baby

Was it over then?

And is it over now?

Tommy followed Eddie's gaze, his expression hardening slightly. "It must be difficult for you," Tommy remarked, his tone possessive and challenging. "Seeing Buck with someone who knows how to appreciate him."

Eddie nodded tersely, unable to hide the bitterness in his voice. "Yeah, especially when it seems like you're making sure everyone knows he's yours now."

Tommy's gaze sharpened a possessive glint in his eyes. "He is mine," Tommy asserted firmly, his words laced with possessiveness. "And he's happier than he ever was with you."

Eddie felt a surge of anger and hurt, his fists clenching at his sides. "Is that why you're here?" he retorted, his voice thick with resentment. "To rub it in my face? We all know you’re just the generic brand of me."

Tommy looked at Eddie with hatred in his eyes and said “Well Buck doesn’t think so. You see after this, I’m going to be the one taking him home, bending him over the counter, fucking him within an inch of his life, and making him cum so hard that he forgets you even exist.”

Tommy glanced over at Buck again, a smug smile playing on his lips. "Just stating facts," he replied nonchalantly, his possessiveness palpable as he turned away, leaving Eddie to wrestle with his emotions alone.

Let's fast forward to three hundred awkward blind dates later

If he’s got brown eyes, I will surmise that you'll probably date him

Nine long months had passed since Buck and Eddie had parted ways, each day heavier with the weight of unresolved emotions and missed chances. Eddie threw himself into his work at the fire station, trying to drown out the persistent ache in his heart. The silence of his house in the evenings echoed with memories of laughter and shared moments with Buck and Chris, haunting reminders of what he had lost. Not only his partner but his co-parent and best friend.

Buck, on the other hand, filled the void left by Eddie's absence with long hours at the gym and nights spent with friends and Tommy, yet none could dispel the emptiness he felt deep inside. His mind often wandered back to the last words they exchanged, the hurt and anger still fresh despite the passing months. But amidst the pain, a part of Buck held onto a flicker of hope—that maybe, someday, they could find their way back to each other. Now that he and Tommy were over, that fucker, maybe just maybe he could try again with Eddie.

One ordinary day at the fire station, Eddie was busy cleaning the fire truck when he heard a familiar voice call his name.

"Eddie?"

He looked up to see Buck standing there, his expression guarded but with a hint of vulnerability shining through. Eddie's heart skipped a beat at the sight of him after so long. After all, Buck had transferred to Tommy’s station less than a week after their break up.

"Buck," Eddie replied, his voice catching slightly. "I... I didn't expect to see you here."

Buck nodded curtly, his jaw clenched as he fought to contain his emotions, tears already welling in his eyes. "Can we talk?" he asked tersely, his voice tinged with a mix of defiance and uncertainty.

Eddie nodded eagerly, motioning for Buck to follow him to a quieter corner of the station. Away from the usual noise of the firefighters, they faced each other, the weight of their past mistakes hanging heavily between them like a thick fog.

"I've missed you, Buck," Eddie began, his voice raw with emotion. "I've thought about us every day since..."

Buck met Eddie's gaze, his eyes narrowing slightly as he searched for sincerity in Eddie's words. "Since we fell apart," he interjected sharply, his voice tinged with bitterness.

Eddie winced, the sting of Buck's words hitting him hard. "I'm sorry," he murmured, his voice thick with sincerity. "I pushed you away when all I wanted was to hold onto us."

Buck sighed heavily, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly as Eddie's apology sank in. "You did," he replied bluntly, his voice softer now, revealing the hurt he had tried to bury beneath anger.

Eddie took a deep breath, gathering his courage to speak from his heart. "I never stopped loving you, Buck," he confessed, his voice trembling with the weight of his confession. "Even in the darkest moments, you were always on my mind."

Buck's expression softened, a flicker of emotion crossing his face as he absorbed Eddie's words. "I... I didn't expect to hear that," he admitted quietly, his voice tinged with vulnerability.

Eddie reached out tentatively, his hand finding Buck's, their fingers intertwining like they had so many times before. "I know I hurt you," Eddie continued, his voice steady now, filled with determination. "But I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make things right."

Buck hesitated for a moment, the conflict evident in his eyes. "I've missed you too," he finally admitted, his voice barely above a whisper, his walls starting to crumble. He reached out his hand to brush his fingers against Eddie's cheek, glancing at Eddie's lips.

Think I didn't see you?

There were flashing lights

At least I had the decency

To keep my nights out of sight

“Can I kiss you?” Asked Eddie.

“Please” Eddie leaned over just enough to let their lips brush for the first time in nine months. Before he had the chance to pull away, he felt Buck's hand at the back of his neck pulling him in for a firmer kiss. Running his tongue across Buck's lips silently asking for entrance. So that he could taste him again, Buck opening his mouth groaned just loud enough to pull Eddie out of the moment. Eddie pulled away regretfully and said, “Buck we shouldn’t be doing this here. As much as I love you, If you keep kissing me, I won’t be able to stop.”

Only rumors 'bout my hips and thighs

And my whispered sighs

At those words, Buck flushed bright red, “Okay, later?”

“Perfect. I’m going to ask Hen to watch Chris tonight. I have a feeling that this isn’t something we are going to want him to overhear,” Eddie said with a massive grin on his face.

“I love you so much baby,” Buck said.

“I love you too.”

Oh, Lord, I think about

Just to see you come running (running)

And say the one thing I've been wanting, but no
