Mama, If That's Movin' Up, Then I'm Movin' Out

Summary:

In the midst of helping Giorno move out of his dorm, Fugo shares his own feelings on the change.

Notes:

Okay MAJOR HEADS UP
This fic is OLD, like beginning of Season 2 old.
This takes place between Chapter 2 and Chapter 3, when Giorno and Mista have just gotten back from the family reunion with news they're going to be parents and they're moving together to the same building as Bruno and Abbacchio.
Also, warning for scratching and mentioned scratching as coping mechanism.
Anyways, hope you guys enjoy!!!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The sun was starting to beat down as it moved into its noon position in the sky. Most of them, minus Narancia, didn’t really think about the heat, focusing on either balancing a box or two, trying to move down stair steps, watching the streets, or loading stuff into the back of Abbacchio’s van and chatting a bit along the way. Some music from the radio drifted out the rolled down windows. Giorno watched from the side with his usual neutral look, listening to the music from the radio, and watched as his stuff from his dorm was loaded up with a twinge of guilt. A couple weeks ago, he would’ve been happy to help out with the process, working with his friends, family, and maybe having a little fun.

But now, because he got stuck with a good bout of morning sickness and generally felt drained, he watched from the side, nursing a bottle of water. A sound from the van and a not so hushed curse drew Giorno’s attention as he looked up to see Fugo walking away from the van and into the shade, shaking his gloved hands. Giorno couldn’t help but stare after his friend, pale face flushed red, silver bangs sticking to his forehead, and a bit of scowl on his lips. The albino caught the blonde’s stare and began making his way over, pulling off his gloves as he went.

“We’re almost done,” Fugo murmured once he was close. “I think all we need to worry about is getting your mattress down and the rest of the bed.”

“That’s good to hear.”

The two stayed quiet for a moment before Fugo cleared his throat.

“So, h-how are..you doing?” The albino’s voice trailed a bit, eyes directed downward.

Giorno followed the gaze and put a hand over his barely there stomach as if to remind himself what was going on  and why he had been sidelined.

“I’m fine, all things considered,” the blonde said with a bit of a sigh. “are you alright?”

Fugo opened his mouth to reply but stopped.

“I’m fine.” He said quickly.

Giorno then noticed Fugo’s hands clasped over the other and his nails began pressing into his skin. Before the blonde could ask what was wrong, Fugo broke.

“Do you think...I had a hand in this?” He blurted out.

Giorno blinked, confused.

“In what?”

Fugo visibly bristled as if Giorno was missing something fairly obvious.

“In this moving. Did I drive him out and that’s why you two are moving in together?” The albino groused, raising his voice.

Giorno inadvertently took a step back, and Fugo took notice.

“S-Sorry..” The albino turned away and hung his head in shame.

Giorno paused for a moment before looking back at the van, seeing Mista and Narancia talking to each other.

“We’ve been talking about moving in together for a while and..it seemed like now was the right time,” he started, catching Fugo’s attention. “but, what did you think was the reason?”

Fugo looked up at Giorno indignantly, like he asked an obvious question, before taking a breath.

“I thought it was when...the Pistols wrecked the apartment, and I..said all those things to Mista. A-After that, you guys said you were looking for a place together, and I thought...” Fugo trailed off, leaning back against the black iron fence.

Giorno was quick to register it and put together how Fugo seemed more standoffish than usual. Along with this admission, it made sense.

“Do you mind if I...give you a hug?” He asked.

Fugo paused, wrapping his arms tighter around himself but eventually nodded. Now, Giorno wasn’t always the cuddliest person in their group, but he tried his best to offer comfort when he could. Because of that, his initial embrace was a bit stiff but softened, allowing the two to relax into the other. It wasn’t like the hugs Bruno gave or the sometimes crushing squeezes Narancia wrapped him into, but at the moment, it was what Fugo needed.

“T-Thank you...”

“Of course. But,” Giorno began to pull away. “I think you should talk to Guido about this as well.”

Those words made Fugo stiffen, turning to look around and saw that the brunette was nowhere in sight.

“I’m not sure...”

“You know he isn’t one to hold a grudge..”

“I know but, what do I say? ‘Hey! Sorry for letting my brain run and think you hate my guts because I threatened your kindle and made you run away’?”

“If you want to be blunt, maybe. But-”

“Yo! Panna!!”

Fugo perked up at the name and saw Narancia up on the top of the stairs, waving to him. The ravenette then cupped his hands around his mouth and shouted after him.

“Dad said he needs some help with the bed stuff while Mista and him get the mattress!”

The albino winced at his boyfriend’s volume, sending him a glare.

“Alright! Damn loud mouth..”

With that, Narancia disappeared back into the building and Fugo was slow to follow, stretching his arms over his head and taking a quick look back at Giorno as he finished off his water. He hesitated.

“Should I..try to talk to him while we’re..?”

Giorno gave a little shrug.

“If you feel like you can. I’m sure Abbacchio and Narancia will give you your time with him.”

“Abbacchio, maybe..”

“Right, heh.”

Fugo took a shaky breath.

“Alright..and, thank you.”

Giorno gave a nod and a small smile.

“Of course.”

“Alright, you got it on that side, Ronny?”

“All clear, Dad!”

“And don’t pull that ‘noodle arm’ bullshit again. You almost sent me down the stairs last time with that..”

“Alright, alright!”

Abbacchio and Narancia were already halfway out, taking the headboard downstairs, leaving Mista and Fugo back in the mostly bare dorm room. The brunette flopped down on his back, panting a bit.

“Shit..Maybe we should’ve...asked that dorm movin’ service for help..”

“Right..”

Fugo looked around at how bare the place was compared to how it was a few hours ago..

“Dude, you good?”

Fugo jolted up.

“Y-Yes, I’m fine. Why?”

Mista raised his hands in mock surrender.

“Sorry. You were starting to scratch at your hands again and I thought..” The brunette made a slight motion with his hands to demonstrate.

Fugo looked down and saw one of his hands crumpled under the other and felt the slight sting of his apparent itching. Dammit all... He took a breath.

“Actually, there..has been something troubling I’ve been wanting to talk to you about..”

That made Mista sit up, propping his arms on his knees.

“Okay man. Shoot.”

Fugo shook, his hands shaking to itch again.

“This whole...moving thing. I..,” he sighed. “I thought you were..moving out because of that..fight we had when the Pistols wrecked the apartment..”

Fugo couldn’t look him in the eye and Mista blinked in confusion. He made a soft sound as he got to his feet.

“Is that why you’ve been a bit..off??”

The albino felt his hands press into his arms before nodding stiffly.

“Yes..That is..” He trailed.

A pause.

“Am I permitted to give a bro hug?”

Fugo looked up to see Mista with his arms out, waiting with a smile on his lips. The other nodded, and soon he was wrapped in another embrace, this one warm from the start with Mista soon setting his chin on his shoulder. There was silence between them for a moment.

“So..you’re not mad? At all?” Fugo asked.

He felt Mista’s shrug before he started rocking them as he continued.

“Eh, nah. It’s kind of our thing; I do something to annoy you or piss you off, you say something clever or angry, I send it back with some snark. We fight, we shake. We walk off into the sunset~”

“Ew, no.” Fugo tried to push the brunette away but it only ended up rocking them more.

Mista chuckled.

“What I mean is it’s all good. Plus, like I said, I’d been talking about doing this with Giorno for a bit. I guess that part’s on me for not keeping you in the loop.”

Fugo nodded. This..wasn’t at all how he imagined this going; some really negative part of him thought he was going to get laughed at for his admission, punched in the shoulder, or something along those lines. Hard to think of now, considering how his friend really is.

“Plus plus,” he could feel the smirk in Mista’s voice. “now you and Nara got the apartment allllll to yourselves~ That’ll give you two some more..alone time~”

“Oh, gross!!”

This time Fugo did get out of his friend’s grip, sending a punch to his shoulder as he started to laugh. Mista held into his arm as he fell back onto the floor, his laugh soon devolving into cackling.

“You are actually vile sometimes..” Fugo growled.

“See?! This is what I mean! The back n’ forth! Hahaha!!”

“Right..” The albino sounded mad, but his face betrayed him with a wry smile.

Sudden footsteps brought the two back, finding Giorno, Abbacchio, Narancia at the door.

“What the hell are you two doing now?”

“Guido, are you okay?”

“Y’all fist fightin’ or something??”

Fugo opened to speak first but Mista cut him off.

“I was just telling Fugo about how him and Nara got the apartment all to themselves with me out and how they can bond more~”

This got different reactions.

“I think you deserved that.” Abbacchio muttered as he walked out.

Giorno shook his head as he went to help his fiancé to his feet. Narancia put a hand to his chin in thought as his eyes lit up with realization.

“Oh...”

“Brats!” the goth’s distant voice caused all of them to jump. “get the rest of the shit down here soon and I’ll get us McDonald’s!”

That got the rest of them to move quicker.

“Woo! Mac Dolands!!”

“Damn, haven’t been there in a minute..”

“I could really go for a sfiziosità..”

“I thought you didn’t like those.”

“I don’t really, but..Oh god, my mouth’s watering.”

“Cravings already. Got it~”

“I like their chicken sandwiches..”

Notes:

Fun Fact: In Italy, McDonald's has pizza pockets as part of their menu.
