Chapter Text
"Okay— 2 orders of C&B combo!" Stan yelled from the counter, the place was packed.
It was rather impressive for Cartman to get his business back up running again, after he finally promised that he'll find alternatives to keep the delicious taste of his burgers without having to put it in his underwear.. again.
He employed his usual team; Kenny, Marjorine, and Stan. It would've been Kyle as the cook again, but, he left. Since when? Since he and Stan broke up 5 years ago in middle school. The two dated for about two years or so, having their so called "gay awakening" moment.
Stan wanted to test out if he had liked boys too, so, his decision was to date someone he knew and would probably be interested in helping him out, no other than his super best friend; Kyle Broflovski.
Well, that help lasted for about two years. Stan never thought he'd actually fall for Kyle. Well, rephrasing that sentence it would be:
Stan never thought that Kyle would actually date him. Overall, Kyle was somewhat his type. Well, the probably has a type for academically good people and stands up for what's right; debatebly good.
Kyle agreed to help his best friend. Well, why wouldn't he? They were super best friends after all, he wanted to help him out.
The downfall of their relationship was their last ever argument. Stan knew Kyle all too well that his feelings would overcome his reasoning, or in other words; his feelings can get the best of him.
Being pointed fingers over and over again would trigger his short temper, and especially in an argument, he'd be talking almost every crucial thing. That occured when they argued in 7th grade.
It was about Kyle's thoughts swarming his mind, and it also bugged Stan due to his constant assurances but Kyle wouldn't believe him. So, a few words and there, they broke up.
"Stan you better not be sucking dicks with my customers there, the line's slow!" Cartman yelled from the kitchen, assisting Kenny. Cartman would pick on him from being a dick sucker and a pussy eater, those specific terms were used on him, and would irritate Stan.
Well, he had to suck up the slander since Cartman's pay was quite.. well, he didn't need the job that bad, he just wanted extra cash. And Cartman's business was the key, since not only was he able to curse the hell out of the manager, he can also bully him at the same time.
"There's only one person left, shut up!" Stan yelled as he passed the notes to Marj for more orders. Marjorine was the waiter, taking and giving orders. Cartman could be heard cursing, as some pans fell.
A patty probably burned in the process, only something that noisy would cause a ruckus. It was almost the end of the day anyways, only the last customer and it was no other than their long time classmate back in elementary— up until now—
"Okay, so probably a C&B combo. And uh, hold on." Craig looked at the menu above, squinting his eyes for better concentration. Stan knew Craig was here to piss him off.
"Craig hurry up, you aren't the only customer here asshole."
"That's no way to treat your customer, and I'm the only last customer here. Let me speak to your manager."
"Customer? This is your first time being here!" The two bickered at the counter, with Criag flipping him off several times. Stan's voice would stutter from the ridiculous comebacks Craig would shoot back at him.
"What the fuck you aren't my manager to tell me to lessen my pay!? You know what— tell that to the manager." He pointed at Craig, viciously, walking backwards to the kitchen door.
"Talk to him you assho—"
"Watch it!"
Heads bumping into each other, and a bag of trash fell. Stan landed on his butt, and that did hurt.
"Watch it! Marj how many times did we ha—" He stopped with his words, in awe to see who it was. Kyle fucking Broflovski. His ex boyfriend, his ex best friend, his ex almost in everything he did together.
"What are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here? Dude I work here!" A distasteful face was made by Kyle, seemingly losing interest in this job now. Not only was he going to see this guy everyday not only in school, but also job.
"Gayass." Stan shot a look at Craig, a hypocrite to even say that. He just rolled his eyes as Marj compensated the order with a free meal which Cartman lost his shit over the free item. Stan stood up, dusting himself off.
"Stan you asshole you lost me 3 bucks! What's wrong here!?" It was clear that Cartman was angry, a big 3 bucks just lost to his name, he was throwing hands. Stan scoffed, looking sharply at their manager.
"Dude, why is he even here?" He stated flatly, not seeming to even care about Kyle's presence in the fast food chain.
"He's the cook, Stan! We were understaffed during the 2-day-school-holiday and you knew it. That's what you get for being absent for the past 3 days bitching over your flu."
"Dude I got severely sick!" He protested, defending his place when he got the flu from walking in the harsh snow, late at night. "Besides, when did he even come back?"
"I have a name you know. And I got back a week ago and attended school 1 day before the holiday." It seemed like the day Stan wasn't present at school when Kyle entered for his first day.
He couldn't believe his eyes that he was back. Why did he have to come back after years? Besides, only a year left before 12th grade and off to college, why did he even come back? Stan was on the way to his recovery to forgetting Kyle!
.. After 5 years.
Well, be honest. Stan was absolutely smitten with Kyle, dating for 2 and friends for almost their entire elementary era— who the hell can even move on like that. Getting this job was his one step to recovery; his mind engraved in work, completely forgetting who Kyle was.
But, no— fate decided that the moment he wanted to forget about Kyle was when they'd be working together at the same part time job!
Stan completely sulked for years, even muttering things like:
"Oh, Kyle would've wanted that PS4.." Or things such as:
"Kyle would've liked this episode of Terrance and Philip.."
Or another time he'd be saying stuff about Kyle for example: "Kyle used to be sick all the time.." Or another time—
.. Alright, maybe that's the reason why Stan couldn't move on because every single thing he sees makes him remember Kyle. Kyle was really unforgettable for Stan, romantically and platonically.
Is this what they said about the pros and cons of dating your best friend? Neither of them surely assessed that saying.
"Why are you here anyway? I thought you enjoyed being in New Jersey." That sure did make Kyle's face scrunch up, as he picked up the garbage bag. Cartman just rolled his eyes and left the scene to tell Kenny and Butters to pack it up and close the shop.
"Why does it matter to you?" Was all Kyle could reply before he left the place and throw out the garbage. He knew that Stan would be bugged about the fact that he's back staying here at their hometown.
He wasn't really bothered with Stan, he knew what they were though before, but he'll just stick to them agreeing years ago that they're over. They both had different ways of moving on. With Stan trying to forget about him; Kyle went out to try and date girls— but failed.
In all honesty, he could pull, but it'd never end up in relationships. I guess you could say they were commencing the "talking stage"; known as getting to know your date for a few months or weeks.
He realized that all the girls he had talked to failed, and he just accepted his fate, and decided to just overwork himself with academics.
"See you next shift, Kyle!" Marj waved, as she and Kenny left for the day. Cartman and Stan were still at the place, discussing what stocks they needed to order. Kyle just went on and grabbed his stuff from the employee room, bid his farewell, telling Cartman to just send his salary to his online account.
"Staring again with your gay ass at Kyle. I thought you homosexuals moved on already."
"What? Of course I have. The way he looks at me just makes me pissed off since he looks at me all angry too." Cartman just rolled his eyes and started looking up at his phone for next batch of orders.
"You better not bring your gayness back to school, makes me want to gag every time."
