Work Text:
If there was one friendship no one expected, it was the sweet, bubbly Ochako Uraraka, and Mr Lord Explosion Murder himself, Katsuki Bakugo. But, despite how very opposite the two people were, their classmates found them inseparable.
At first, it started with Uraraka saying good morning to him, which she did everyday, but this time Bakugo said good morning back. Which was odd, because the most Kirishima got was a nod or a grumble in recognition. Nonetheless, Uraraka got a full “Good Morning” back. And that marked the start of the question, “Are Uraraka and Bakugo friends?”.
Most people would say no, that Bakugo was just having a good day. But eventually, there were 5 other things that happened to prove that the answer to this question was that yes, yes they were friends.
1. The two were often found walking down the halls together during passing period, or when the day ended and it was time to go back to the dorms, Bakugo going out of his way to drop her off at her room. Sometimes he was even caught sneaking back into the girls section of the dorms and then into her room later on, after he finished his homework presumably, only for you to hear giggling on the other side of the door. So, quite odd if you asked anyone that knew the explosive man.
2. They started eating lunch together. They would both arrive at the same time since they decided to walk with each other, Bakugo would buy them both lunch, and they would leave to sit who knows where. Some people recall them sitting on some random bench in the courtyard, others say they saw them sitting under random trees. And almost everyone would tell you that they were often gossiping or throwing bits of their food at the other person and laughing at their reaction. And they always would get up and the end of lunch and walk each other to their respective classes.
3. Everyone knew Bakugo had nicknames for everyone. Shitty hair, half-n-half, deku, tape face, so on and so forth. Even Uraraka had both pink cheeks and round face. But when Bakugo started adding Angel into the mix, it was quite the shock. No one remembers when he started calling her that, mostly because the first time he called her “Angel” everyone was too dumbfounded to realize what was happening around them at the time. Either from the fact Bakugo had called her an endearing name, or the fact that Uraraka responded like it wasn’t the first time he’s called her that. And then, later on in the week, Uraraka started calling him kitkat or something stupid that included the word “boom”, followed by a giggle at the face he made. But he never yelled at her for calling him that. Usually just a scoff at the stupid boom ones, and almost no reaction to the “kitkat” nickname. Which led their classmates to wonder which was weirder. The fact that he called her angel, or that she called him kitkat.
4. It was a known fact at this point that Bakugo would hang out in Uraraka’s dorm quite often, but no one knew if she hung out in his. Many people said she didn’t, because Bakugo didn’t let anyone in his dorm. But one day, when Mina and Kaminari had slammed the door to Bakugos room open, they found the answer to the query. Because both Bakugo and Uraraka were on his bed, Bakugo painting her nails a nice pink color, with her ring fingers painted black. And upon closer inspection, Bakugos nails were painted black, with the same pink color on his ring fingers. However Uraraka convinced him to do that was a mystery. But no matter how much Bakugo screamed at Mina and Kaminari to leave his room, it wouldn’t change the fact that yes, Uraraka did hang out in Bakugo’s dorm room. Being confirmed it wasn’t an odd shared dream the next day when they walked in class and their nails were still painted matching colors.
5. Now, this last point was so baffling that it could be its own story. Which is why this one must be explained in such detail.
It was a regular Saturday afternoon, and many people were sitting in the common rooms. Including the one and only– Katsuki Bakugo.
Most of the students were doing their own thing. Either indulging in conversation, watching the movie that played on the tv, or minding their own business on their phones. Bakugo was doing the last option. He had no reason to speak to these extras. He was just going to sit here and be bothered by all the other people around. But he wasn’t gonna go back to his room. He was far too petty.
Eventually Uraraka had made her way into the room. Many people didn’t notice her at first, but by the time someone had realized she was there, she had flipped Bakugo forward and off the couch, landing on his back with her foot on his chest, in one swift motion.
And, well, no one spoke. Mainly because of the shock that Uraraka had just flipped THE Bakugo onto his back. And also because of the fact Bakugo hadn’t blown her up yet. Just because everyone suspected they were best friends didn’t mean that they didn’t think Bakugo would still blow her up.
.
.
“Holy shit you did it!”
Everyone's head snapped to Bakugo, who had a huge grin plastered on his face, which only caused their jaws to drop wider.
“I know right??” Uraraka giggled while helping Bakugo up, who then proceeded to wrap an arm around her shoulders.
“I was so close to blowing you up. Took you long enough.”
Uraraka beamed up at him, that blinding smile soon changing into a shit-eating smirk.
“I believe you owe me a milkshake and mochi.” She remarked, only for Bakugos grin to just barely falter.
“Tch. Grab your shoes Angel. Take too long and I’m leaving without you.”
“Just wait in front of my dorm pleasee”
And with that, Uraraka ran upstairs, Bakugo following behind shortly after to grab his own stuff, leaving everyone that had witnessed that interaction a fumbling mess. Especially Izuku, who was mumbling to himself before swiftly shutting up and just looking extremely confused.
So yes. It seemed like Ochako “Angel” Uraraka and Katsuki “KitKat” Bakugo were friends.
!! From this point on it shifts into romantic and no longer platonic, so if you don't like the ship don't continue reading. !!
But that answer was short lived. Not because they weren’t friends, but because they were 100% more than that. Because one day, as Bakugo was heading to bed after spending the evening with Uraraka and a few others in the common rooms, he stopped behind the part of the couch where Uraraka was sitting, leaned over, and-
They kissed.
Not a friendly cheek kiss you would share with a best friend before going to bed, a full “I’m deeply in love with you” on the lips kiss. And before Bakugo made it to the stairs, Uraraka yelled “Wait, I'm coming with!” and hopped off the couch and over to him, grabbing onto his arm as they both disappeared around the corner.
And that was WAY more unexpected than the fact that they were friends was. THE Katsuki Bakugo. Lord Explosion Murder God. The guy who showed no one mercy and was mean to literally everyone, was dating Ochako Uraraka. The girl who had given some of her points to Midoriya so he could get into UA. The girl who was one of the sweetest people you would ever meet.
When Tsu, Iida, Sero, and Kaminari had told everyone in their class what they saw, obviously no one believed them. Only a little skeptical because even Iida had said he saw it happen. But they started believing them when they saw the couple in action themselves.
First, Tokoyami and Tsu had seen them kiss in the kitchen while Bakugo was cooking for her, which prompted Tsu to point at them and look at Tokoyami with a face that said “See?? We weren’t lying!!!”
Then, after training one day, Bakugo gave her a high five and a kiss on the head, leading to Uraraka crushing him in a hug, only for Bakugo to laugh and pat her head. This was witnessed by Midoriya, Jirou, Ojiro, and Hakagure, who just stood there jaw dropped.
And one day Mina had barged into Bakugo’s room again, except this time with Kirishima and instead of them painting each others nails, they were cuddling on his bed while Uraraka scrolled on her phone. Before Mina or Kirishima could say anything, Uraraka shushed them with a finger over her lips, before pointing to a sleeping Bakugo snuggling into her back. With that, the two witnesses left the room, carefully shutting the door behind them. The thing Mina wanted to ask Bakugo left unanswered by the couples shenanigans once again.
The rest of the people in the class had found out at random moments, whether because they kissed or because Bakugo layed with her on the couch while she talked to her friends. Everyone ended up apologizing to Iida, Tsu, Sero, and Kaminari after that. Because they had in fact witnessed them kiss that night. Being proven by everyone else witnessing it too. Only reason Iida hadn’t stopped their PDA was purely because he was usually too shocked to realize it was happening.
After one of their usual movie nights, both Bakugo and Uraraka had left to go to one of their dorms, most likely. But everyone else stayed behind.
“So, they’re definitely dating.” Midoriya remarked
“Felt that was established by now.” Todoroki responded in his usual monotone voice.
“Well- yeah. But has anyone asked them?”
And with that everyone shut up. Because no, no one had actually asked. They didn’t think they needed to. It was quite obvious. But it’s still the common courtesy to ask. So that’s what they did. The next day in class, Mina had walked up to Bakugo and asked if they were dating.
“Yeah, we’ve been together for months.” Bakugo responded shrugging, Uraraka standing next to his desk as she stared at Mina with a cocked eyebrow.
The fact that they were dating isn’t what shocked everyone that was listening. No not that, because they had known. But the fact that Bakugo said months. Plural. They had only found out the two of them were friends about a month ago. So they’ve been dating for longer than the class even knew they we’re friends. And later on most of the girls had ended up asking Uraraka when they had become friends, her answer being since the sports festival. She then asked how no one realized all the times they snuck into each others dorms, or all the pecks they placed on each others cheeks, and how often Bakugo took her places and made her food. Because only until a month ago they actually started paying attention to the two. They were such an unlikely couple no one noticed anything.
Uraraka just giggled, before getting up and saying “Katsuki’s taking me to dinner tonight.” and leaving the room.
So everyone promptly accepted the fact they had been extremely oblivious to their obvious relationship. And no one questioned anything they did together. Because the two polar opposites were actually quite the cute couple.
