Work Text:

The night was quiet for the League of Villains, except, it wasn’t quiet, not at all . Twice decided it was a great idea to invite everyone to play a drinking game with the last bottle of alcohol they had salvaged from the wreckage of the old bar, as a final honor to its legacy , or whatever.

Obviously everyone agreed with nothing better to do, aside from Kurogiri, Spinner and Tomura, Kurogiri in charge of keeping everyone in check for the night, Spinner already off to his own devices elsewhere and Tomura more interested in staying sober and alert. After what happened in Kamino. Plus, party games were never his forte anyways.

They all sat around a small board(moreso a piece of paper), Twice had made his own little game for them to play as getting his hands on one was a lot easier said than done.

“6! That means I…” she paused to move her piece across the board, all of which are just little trinkets Twice found lying around, “take 1 shot!” Toga said, making hands for the bottle of rum, which was quickly pulled away from her by Kurogiri. “No can do, Toga. We agreed you’d only get shots of lemonade.” The man denies, answered with a pout from Toga. “Alcohol is gross anyways. Pour me one shot of lemonade, misty!”

Their voices eventually fade out as Tomura tends to his glass of ginger ale, he is really only listening to who is losing.

Twice, a total of 4 shots and a few bad dares, he is clearly losing.

Toga, this was her first shot, other than that she hasn’t gotten many bad squares.

Compress, no shots, but a few embarrassing stories he was forced to tell.

Dabi, 10 shots, hasn’t done a single dare or truth, and doesn’t seem the smallest bit drunk.

“Yeah, I’m taking another shot for this one.” speaking of. Dabi gestures to Kurogiri to pour him another shot, but before he can, Twice steps in, his voice slurred from the alcohol running its course in his system. “Come on man! You can’t just take a shot every time you get a dare, you dirty cheater!”

“I sure can, those are the rules aren’t they? If you don’t want to do the truth or dare, you have to take a shot, I’ve been playing by the rules,” thing is, Dabi can’t get drunk, the alcohol is burned off in his system before it has a chance to intoxicate him, with the addition of a crazy alcohol tolerance, he was clearly using it to his advantage.

By the end of the game, Toga had retired for the night after complaints about adults being no fun for not letting her take a shot of their last bottle, Sako was tipsy, but also retired early after he got a “take 3 shots” square, Twice was the most drunk of them all, taking 7 shots total, he was whipped from the alcohol and forced to quit when Sako did.

Kurogiri, Dabi and Tomura remained at the hideout for a while, Kurogiri standing by a broken down bed frame, much different from the old bar, seeing his full body all the time was quite uncanny, while Tomura was sat on a couch that had definitely seen better days.

After the game was over, Dabi plopped himself down next to Tomura, asking for another shot from their former bartender, as though to rub it into anyones face how high his tolerance was, nobody out of the three of them bat an eye, and Kurogiri poured the last of the bottle of rum into a shot glass.

He gulps it down in one fell swoop, making no expression to the intensity of the alcohol aside from a sigh hissed between his teeth.

Silence falls back between the three, at least, that’s what was supposed to happen, but apparently Dabi had other plans for the night, he leans over, achingly close to brushing shoulders with Tomura. “Boss… you didn’t participate,” he states, drawn out like a cat's purr, glaringly obvious he had no intent on focusing this conversation on that.

“‘didn't wanna drink tonight, why do you care?” Tomura responds, glancing at him from the side of his now empty glass. He’s had a few glasses of ginger ale over the course of the night, so he places his crystal cup on the floor next to the couch for Kurogiri to take away and clean.

The pyrokinetic shrugs loosely, leaving Tomura’s personal space, something the leader is minutely grateful for. “I was just thinking, I haven’t seen you do anything fun since I joined, why is that?” The question is a curious one, but Tomura can see he had a point to make.

“I don’t need to have fun to sustain myself, what are you trying to say?” he retaliated, getting defensive over his own peace, he didn’t intend to talk to anyone, so why was Dabi of all people talking to him now?

“Come on a walk with me, hands,”

“What?”

“A walk, ‘see the open world without a hero trailing behind our backs, it’ll be fun.”

Dabi must’ve been drunk, this was a ridiculous ask from your leader, a man you torment on a daily. Shigaraki looked over at the clock hanging just behind a battered desk across the room. 3:35am. A part of Tomura expects a prank, or a cynical murder plot, but Dabi has never been that kind of man.

And Shigaraki wouldn’t mind a walk right now, the room had been filled with the stench of alcohol ever since that game began, he could use the fresh air.

“Fine.”

For the most part their walk is filled with silence, Dabi taking the lead and Shigaraki trailing behind. However, the route they’re taking is not unfamiliar to the younger man, in fact, Shigaraki is quite certain this is…

“Are you taking me to the bar?” He asks, blunt as ever, it stops Dabi, who turns back to look at him, a grin on his face.

“Nothing slips by you, does it boss?”

That answer is enough, he supposes.

Silence follows them once more, not in a bad way, it’s quite peaceful, worry of heroes no longer boggle his thought process, he can breath and be aware of the air filling his lungs, be aware of his legs carrying him, not running or stomping, just an easy step by step.

The night is cool, Tomura is grateful he brought a jacket, but even then, the thin material of it manages to do little against the chilled air.

Before he knows it, as he admires buildings he used to neighbor, he’s staring right at the bar, now flattened entirely and a horribly pitiful sight for somewhere he used to consider home. Bright yellow caution tape surrounds the premises. It looks like the heroes did a shitty job at cleaning this place up.

Dabi easily steps over a lower piece of tape, rubble crunching under his heavy boots, Tomura follows suit, placing his hands in his pocket as he looks around. There wasn’t a single thing left of the bar behind, it was a miracle they managed to snatch that bottle before it all came crashing down.

“Hey, check this out,” Dabi says, motioning Shigaraki to come over as he crouched over something in the corner. When he does, he sees what Dabi is referring to, a jukebox, most definitely the one from the bar, it’s damn near cut in half, most of it under rubble and torn, still, Dabi taps a finger on the small screen.

As expected, it doesn’t turn on, the sound of music is not heard and nothing changes. The dark haired villain sighs and stands up, turning back to Shigaraki. “Guess our imaginations will have to do”

The statement throws their leader for a loop, but before he can ask what the hell the man is talking about, a fearless hand reaches for his own, surprising Tomura even more.

“Dance with me, boss.” Dabi’s eyes twinkle with mischief as he holds out his offer.

What? Is all Tomura conjures in his mind, much less say anything out loud. His brows are furrowed in confusion and his mouth hangs open. “Are you insane?” Is what finally comes off his tongue.

That garners a chuckle from the older, “did you ever think otherwise?”

This time, Dabi takes his hand by force, a very bold move for someone with as dangerous of a quirk as Tomura Shigaraki, but he shows no fear as he takes the deadly hand in his own. Tomura lifts his pinky automatically, but at this moment it seems like death itself isn’t immune to Dabi’s bravery and blind trust.

It’s at this point Tomura understands the offer was moreso a statement.

Dabi’s other hand goes on the leaders hip, and Tomura’s goes to Dabi’s shoulder. He had half a mind to catch up to what Dabi is doing, and though he knows next to nothing about dancing, he has seen this position in movies at least once.

“Do you even know how to dance?”

“Nope,” still, what Dabi lacks in knowledge he makes up for in enthusiasm, immediately swinging their bodies around, not being slow or gentle at all.

Shigaraki can’t say he’s any better, but he still complains, “are we not slow dancing? That was not slow,” he quips. Another laugh leaves his subordinate, and he’s beginning to think he could get used to the sound.

“Are we not having fun ? Just enjoy yourself!” And damn, the way Dabi’s mouth spreads into a wide open, toothy grin sends blood rushing to his head.

He does listen in the end, letting Dabi guide his feet around the open air. It's an experience Tomura can confidently say is nice, the pyrokinetics body does wonders against the frigid wind, and the weight of his hands on his body make him wish he’d done this sooner.

Still, the dance is not without its flaws, as they try their best to coordinate their movements, Dabi manages to trample on Shigarakis feet 3 separate times, his steel toed boots make for a heavy hit.

“You dick! You did that on purpose!” The blue-haired villain yells, removing his hand from Dabi’s shoulder to give him a hard punch. “Ow-ow! Calm down, hands. I’m messing with you,”

“Messing with me my ass, those boots of yours–!” He gets cut off as his body is suddenly let go of, spinning around while being held only by one firm hand in his own. Before he can even compute the move he’s back in Dabi’s arms and being tipped down, like some romantic jerk.

“Say that again?” He says snarkily, a shit eating grin covering his face. “Fuck you.” He says as he’s brought back up to his feet, purposely stepping on Dabi’s next time they turn. And Dabi laughs again.

The dance continues much the same after that, impossibly sweet Tomura has to believe at least a bit of alcohol is in Dabi’s system for him to be this way. Their rhythms synchronize naturally even without a beat to follow. Feet stepping becoming far more rare.(aside from the times they decide to mess with the rhythm on purpose)

Dancing with no music sounds awkward, but Tomura finds the rhythm of the gravel beneath them to be a satisfying tune. Natural sounds from the environment make up their own music for them to dance to, footsteps, the sound of rocks clanking together as their feet sweep the floor and the occasional animal lurking in nearby dumpsters, they all work together to make a distant rhythm they alone can hear.

It’s oddly beautiful, dancing on a plain of rubble where they used to live, giving one final goodbye to the last place they were welcome guests. Part of Shigaraki wishes a hero could see them like this, free and content in the presence of one another.

Before the villains even knew it, the sky had turned a shade lighter, warning them of the day that was to come.

“Best we leave before sunrise, eh?” The older man says, noticing Shigaraki’s focus on the slowly rising sun.

Even if he doesn’t want the moment to end, he nods, untangling their limbs and setting his eyes to where they’re leaving to, not catching Dabi’s brows as they crinkle with disappointment.

The walk back is silent, the sky slowly lightening above them. After a few minutes, they make it back to the rundown hideout with no disruptions or disturbances.

They both stood before it, knowing it was now time to go their separate ways to sleep the rest of the day away. Tomura takes a step forward towards the doors, and Dabi takes a step in front of Shigaraki, stumping them both.

“Tomura.” The black haired villain starts.

“Dabi.” He responds.

There’s a tense moment that fills the air, Tomura feels his face heat up despite himself.

“I… had fun tonight, did you?” He sounds shy, which would be a difficult thing to imagine from Dabi if he wasn’t standing right in front of him.

With no clue where his colleague was leading this conversation, he entertains the question, “yeah, I guess I did.”

“Great, we can do it again sometime,” it wasn’t a question nor an offer, it was another statement. Luckily it was something Shigaraki had no plans to refuse.

More silence follows, and as Tomura is about to ask if he can move so he can get to the door, Dabi does the unthinkable.

A kiss, small, quick and clumsy, he manages to miss his lips entirely in the process, kissing the very corner of his mouth. The fumbled kiss is quickly followed by Dabi walking away, his arm reaching to cover his mouth, and there's a clear haste in his steps–like a schoolgirl handing out a love note to their classmate–presumably he is joining Twice in their shared apartment.

Shigaraki looks onward at him, completely baffled and flustered by the bold move. Before he realizes it, a smile has cracked onto his own lips.

What a fucking maniac.
